Monf-Dimi next....who's gonna outrun who in this one?

....which is a depressing question to be asked about two such tall players...

Monf playing with purpose today, but I can see why he doesn't do it more often.

For him it requires focus, steeliness and ruthlessness he simply doesn't have in his character.

He seems to be happy with making it to the
WTF every year.

And rightly so cause I think he the weakest of the top 10.

Ferrer doesn't get tired from these sorts of matches, if not anything it warms him up. Ferrer won his 2 sets 6-2 and 6-1, not even very long match.

He'll beat Monfils in the SF.
I really really hope he beats Nole in the final, but I just don't see it happening.

A fine start from Nole.

If he crushes Cilic, Nadal will tank. He's got to keep his H2H and give his fans something to cling to Winking

I noticed Nole's really cautious with his overheads in Monte Carlo following his recent "displays"...at least he's putting them in...

I was really cheeky in Boodles two years ago.
Following that tragic botched overhead in 2013 RG against Nadal, I told him "let it bounce first!".

And the funny thing was next week during one of his post match interviews in Wimbledon he said "I know everyone thinks I can't hit an overhead..." Laugh

Who in their right mind apart from Djokovic would intentionally want to go into long rally with Nadal at Monte Carlo ?
It doesn't mean he's tired.

Nadal's level of sweating has reached new levels...to match the amount of muscle and spin.

And Robbie now selling his soul and Nadal saying how is volleying is underestimated...just because he deflected a pass from Ferrer.

No wonder fans from around the world are so ignorant!

Nadal used to have one of the best second serve returns in the world, now his second serve return is probably the worst in the whole tour.

Disagree. He always had good stats for 2nd serve returns but that was not due to teh quality of his returns just the fact he managed to keep the ball in court and engage his longs rallies. His returns have always been the same. Just that players are used to attack those short returns. Something they had to get used to cause it is not the length that was the problem but the spin.

Um... no; his second serve returns used to normally bounce 3/4 way through the court and kick up to be annoying to attack.
Now they're either into the net, or really really short, or miles out of the court.

Yes, same reason why Murray is in top 4 despite having such a poor 2nd serve.

Nadal does not bother hitting brilliant deep returns like Nole, he returns them safely and engages opponents in a rally.
That's all he is able to do...win by draining opponents, not outplaying them with good shots.

The point is he got them deep enough so the opponent couldn't follow up with a very easy winner.
These days he either totally misses with that shot, or it doesn't even cross the service line.

Obviously Nadal has never actually attacked on the 2nd serve return like Djokovic and Murray do; but he does get it far back enough with the spin to engage his opponent in a rally.

Sending Ferrer dolly drops, or missing, is not engaging Ferrer in anything.

Show me clips of the pre-2010 where his returns were consistently deep.

Have a good weekend!

By deep, I am not talking about getting it right on the line like Djokovic or Murray.
But it was enough to bounce around midway between service line and baseline, spin up, and difficult to attack- after which Nadal tried to have a rally with his forehand in play.

Good game from Ferrer.

I'd love the third set just to see how much Nadal can last in this super-juiced mode.

No, we need clay here. Cause on grass he has no choice to stand bit closer and the ball comes slightly faster to him.
