Time to go?

Sun Nov 18, 2018 7:48 am by bogbrush

I’ve watched Federer play in adversity over many years; with a bad back, ill with mono, with a knee injury, with a smaller racquet, in conditions dreadful to an attacking game or stuck with the wrong tactics against Nadal. All these times it’s been possible to argue that better times could be around the corner.

But yesterday I watched him just be not as good as a very ordinary rival. His …

WTF - London 2018 (and maybe a little bit of 'nextgen')

Mon Nov 05, 2018 5:00 pm by barrystar

The favoured 8 seem to look this this at the moment (assuming that Isner will want to join the party):

Djokovic
Nadal
Federer
de Potro
Zverev
Anderson
Cilic
Thiem
Nishikori
Isner (?)

Poor old del Boy has been out for some time, and Nadal surprised nobody today by confirming he is out - seems to be a combination of the abdominal problems we have heard about as well as some arthroscopic ankle …

Why has American and Australian Tennis Declined?

Tue Oct 30, 2018 11:59 am by Tenez

I found this oldish (2014) clip of Lendl's interview on US decline. I always preferred Lendl over McEnroe even if I liked McEnroe's tennis better. I felt Lendl was smarter and his tennis was also hugely underrated in spite of having an amazing record.

Here is his suggestions on why US tennis is not that great. Of course he mentions the "globalisation" of tennis, meaning it is more …

Basel and Vienna 2018

Fri Oct 26, 2018 7:38 pm by Tenez

I was writing that something changed in Fed's serve. Looks stiffer and then he makes 2 very bad DFs...not close at all. and offers Simon a couple of BPs from 40/15 up.

Saves it and then run away in the TB with some better serving.

Strange.

Wimbleodn adopts final set TBs

Fri Oct 19, 2018 8:44 pm by Tenez

https://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/45913728

I was annoyed when I first read the title as I thought, 2 exceptional matches should not force a change of rule but then I saw that the TB would apply at 12 all and not at 6 all like in the USO. I think this is a fair change of rule. Though it should most affect those who cannot return: Isner, Mahut, Kevin, etc....

ATP 1000 Shanghai Masters.

Mon Oct 08, 2018 10:15 am by raiders_of_the_lost_ark

The forum has dried up. We are missing the passion of nitb. I'll try to fill in with what I can.

Who's playing:
Among top10, all but Nadal and Isner. Fed is playing.

Draw is out for your analysis. https://www.atpworldtour.com/en/scores/current/shanghai/5014/draws

For top seeds the SF are lined up as:

1. Fed vs Delpo
2. Djoko vs Zverev
