Re: Canadian Masters 1000
Ah yes, you are right, that was just as Rafa was returning from injury. That is probably why I never remembered that result. That also makes more sense because as you say Coric is quite weaponless. I remember their match at the USO. Rafa was playing quite poorly and yet Coric never looked like he would threaten.Slippy wrote:Rafa was obviously not fit in that match.
Well ok. Shapovalov will have to do the work then. It is just as well, I like Shapovalov better than Coric anyway. Good luck Denis.

Re: Canadian Masters 1000
Being weaponless is not so much a disadvantage if you play Rafa. Ferrer, Djoko or Murray can give him a run too....as long as they can extend rallies. Coric is good in that department.summerblues wrote:Ah yes, you are right, that was just as Rafa was returning from injury. That is probably why I never remembered that result. He is the weakest, pussyiest sportsperson I have ever seen. He makes Monfailure look like he has balls. Nish. That's what he will win.
Oh, but maybe not. Tenez told me last year how Nishikori was already better than Djok and just needed more experience in order to start mopping up the slams. How's that going, Ten?
It was worse than Thiem's choke the night before.
Nishi is an exceptionally talented player, but let down by attitude and application. He has been injured a lot over his career and carrying niggles, but exceptionally mentally strong players pull their socks up and get on with it and overcome those pain barriers.
Just think Nishi is not courageous enough to fight through those barriers.

Sad to see Gasket lose last night to that horse faced russian.
He saved 3-4 MPs, screwed a few of his own, he was barely moving, and Zverev could not put him down, needed a TB.

What do you mean?
Manna is a great player. And definitely one of the least fit players on tour.

Nishi is a Bolettieri robot, not a creative player. Plus his serve is average compared to his talent.
And that's all it takes for him in current competition.
Tjere are shorter players than him with better serve, eg. Berankis & Schwartzman

Raonic was playing with a wrist injury hence Survival of the Fittest. So effectively half of the top ten are falling apart. Stan and Djokovic out for the season with Murray likely to follow suit. Cillic is carrying an injury as now is Raonic. The US Open field looks like it will be decimated. Don't think Fedal could've wished for an easier field going in.
Manna is not a great player. Good, but not great.

Nish is baseliner to a tee, but it's not the serve that's letting him down, rather just poor application of play in key moments. Monfils mentally was not in the game and Nish just handed it to him. Fed him proper warm up junk balls to tee off on.
Never seen such tepid play in an age.

Re: Canadian Masters 1000
I see what you mean...yes many are injured, too many for this part of the season.
The young trying to catch up with the old in fitness, the old trying to maintain it.
But some of them I don't feel sorry for. Esp the tall players like Delpo and Raonic.
Their wrists would've been fine if they ventured to the net more often, rather than rally from the baseline.
As for Manna, for me he is a great player, he times the ball beautifully, plus sooo much guile.
Not many on the tour would be able to beat him with a wooden racquet.

Impressive result for Nadal, I didn't see that match. Was he as good as that suggests?

Re: Canadian Masters 1000
I saw a few points.
Nadal looked very physical, same as in RG.
Coric really played like Nole with a tennis elbow, I don't think he was fully fit.
It was not pretty.

Nadal looked good. He was just able to bully Coric with his forehand - Coric won something like 6 points in the first 5 games. He just doesn't have any weapons sufficient to knock Nadal out of his comfort zone.

He has beaten Nadal twice and Murray twice (wn1) so he certainly does. He's still only 20 and will get better. He had a very bad game by his own standards and Nadal played well.

Well, he gets the win to go to 17-0 against Ferret but a pretty terrible performance overall. Looks like he's been partying for the last month.

If he was, it wasn't because of the tennis. Partying like I say.
Actually, I thought he took neither opponent so far seriously.

Re: Canadian Masters 1000
Whatever is beig said about Nishi...I suspect he is constantly injured. I still think he has one of the best game out there.
Sure he lost from many MP up last night v Monfils.....but remember he saves something like 8 MPs a couple of years ago ......v Monfils too.
If he is not fit he is not fit. Not being fit he still does better than Djko and Murray.

Of course he does better, he as won jack sh*t in his career, no stress, not many major Finals, not many masters, heck he is as useless as Berdy. A disappointment.

Actually I think he did not get the warning after all, umpire a little hesitant, and Fed pulled a little trick while umpire had in his tongue the warning and Fed asked for HE review.
Don;t think he was warned for time between points, he wasn't stalling, just somehow came to the match with local Park tennis mentality.

Shapovalov is not only good but also seriously watchable.
If this is how Rafa's HC season is going to be, Fed may be able to take a long vacation during the fall season and still finish the year at No 1.

Fed, Zverev and Bautista-Agut the only three seeds left in the draw. Fed should certainly try to win this now.

Re: Canadian Masters 1000
So Murray stays at #1 one more week. But am I right that now that he has pulled out of Cincy, he will lose the #1 spot regardless, and that either Rafa or Fed will take over at #1?
The further Fed goes in Montreal, the better chance he obviously has to take #1 next week. I believe if Fed were to win Montreal, he would "only" need to outperform Rafa in Cincy to take #1. It is starting to feel tantalizingly close, but I still say Fed should focus on the USO, even at the cost of not making #1 next week. After all, if he wins the USO, he is very likely to reach #1 anyway.

Shapovalov is playing Mannarino tomorrow. If he can get himself ready after tonight's emotions, that match should be winnable. In any event, he will find it easy to get some WCs now, so maybe he can move up the rankings and get himself out of challengers and onto the main circuit.

Nope, has anyone claimed he was? You also speculated that Nadal would blame his Wimbledon loss due to injury, I challenged you to find evidence, will you acknowledge he hasn't done so? You complain that Tenez makes claims without evidence, but these claims have been similar.Daniel wrote:let me guess... Nadal injured? Right?

Shap has certainly huge potential.
Fed should just concentrate on teh USO. I don;t want him to be number 1 before it as I don;t see him capable of going far in both Masters.
