could this be the start or beginning signs of the next generation breaking through?
In a way it is quite similar to Delpo winning the USO or beating the top players in a few TMS1000.

Zverev is really a player who based his game on the road runners but helped with great fitness. So in a way he is successful for the same reasons the RRunners were. Nothing to be too excited actually.

At last a new gen breaks through!!!

Only been waiting like 4 years for this to happen!

Really hope this isn't a one off, though it seems quite likely.

Yes, though the real tests are the slams. That's always been on the physical side that "new gens" had been behind in the last decade.

The Beeb does not seem interested in Zverev's win:

Zverev isn't a one off. Anyone with a brain can see that.

Who are you addressing?
Chang and Delpo were a "one off, yet they achieved more at a younger age. Though i agree he looks really strong for his age, i am not sure he will be able to contain the new generatio of attacking players without being injured too often.

Delpo was not a one hit wonder. He was very unfortunate to get injured so much and be forced out of tennis.  He also might still win another. If Zverev remains fit, he's going to win multiple slams. It's been obvious a while that he will.

I had the same thought yesterday without seeing the "news".

Tennis used to be a sport of cool & smart characters, now they are all a bit sterile and bland, just like their games.

The only ones that stand out are Pouille with his great attacking style (but even he is meek and too nice) and Kyrgios who distinguishes himself with tattoos, stupid haircuts, foul mouth and match tanking.

So in a way, maybe it's not a bad idea that the "nextgen" have their own WTF (what would the cut-off age be, 22-23?).
So long as they don't play by those ridiculous new rules. They are not toddlers!

Yes, but why did he get injured so much?
Because he bashed the ball too hard and played baseline tennis his heavy body can't sustain.
