Interesting to see Nish choosing to slice back that short ball and stay on the baseline rather than take it early and put it away.
He still has remnants of his defensive pre-Chang self.

Wow, maybe you are right. Maybe he learnt it all from Nole - magical recovery plus faking exhaustion.

Yes, he even learnt not to be able to close the set from Nole

Eva is a decent umpire. I'd like to see her in the chair in Nadal's matches.

I expect an MTO from Nishi if by some miracle he manages to lose this TB

Again, Nishi goes safe at 5:2 on his serve and then chucks a DF to follow...
Nole is giving the set to him on a plate, though...

That TB was a choke-fest, but Nole managed to outchoke Nishi in the end.

I quite like Nishi; he is possibly my favorite DHBH on tour - at least from among the top players.
With all his injury woes, I am also willing to forgive him his slowish rise to the top more than some other youngsters.

There are quite a few very talented DBH-ers: Paire, Dolgo Fognini, Nishi.
Goffin and Mannarino, too.

Nole needs a big point to restart himself. Nishi pushed him into his shell with his fast-paced tennis.
But he is roaring inside.

Agree with you on Nishi - he was acting all mopey and tired late in the second, early in the third, but has looked just fine from 3:4 in the third.

Nishi's nerves will now start getting into the play - he is getting awfully close and it will start playing on his mind.
He was playing quite well at the AO against Rafa and did not handle the pressure all that well there.

4:3, Nishi to serve.
This is where I expect him to choke and start missing his 1st serve.

Maybe a game too early for choking, 3 aces!
I just don't want Nole to start DF-ting now...come on suck it up and fight man!!!!

Nole is looking out of sorts. Nishi is playing well, but not as well as the score indicates; and Nole is not even putting up that much resistance.

Fed is going to find it hard to adapt to the day conds....he played all 2 weeks at night! but this win from Nishi should give him wings!

Yes! What an amazing result. Lovely to see Nishi come through - and he played so nicely - hitting the ball oh so cleanly.
No matter what happens, this USO is going to have a reasonably happy ending.
Federer must be feeling like Christmas came early - not a single top 10 player in his path all tournament.

Plus he is used to this - I am sure it has been similar for him in many USOs.

Djoko does so badly in the heat....though he has won the hottest slams 4 times so not sure what to think!

He hated it v Tsonga in Toronto and said so. SO I don't think he gets used to it so easily. His game is based so much on timing.summerblues wrote:He played a day match last Sunday.Tenez wrote:Fed is going to find it hard to adapt to the day conds....

I had a feeling Nole's heart wasn't in this tournament from the very start.
He'll just wind the season down and try to keep number one if he can.

First time Nole lost to a player outside top 10 in a slam since 2010 W (lost to Berdych)

Re: US Open 2014: MOTD Day 12 Sat 06/09/2014 Men's Semifinal
It was very weird - Nole was a shadow of Murray Nole. That said, Nishi was hitting the ball really well. But you feel that Nole at his best would have forced him to hit a few more extra shots and ultimately maybe grind him down - certainly did not expect Nole to go down so easily.Tenez wrote:I thougt the opposite...especially how good he played!....up to today.
