it's a combination of Fed being a half a step to slow and Cilic's pace making that a full step!

Yeah, you as well.
I suggest you go and look at 2006, because this Federer is a million miles away, and rightfully so, being 33.

The dynamics of this match is very similar to the one against Monfils.
Cilic beginning to crack ever so slightly.

Fed has never won b2b 5-setters. Here's to hope that will change...

This is the worst I've ever seen Federer... especially given the draw.
He has very few chances left to win a Slam, and this was a golden chance.
Better now than 2006? Please, pull your head from your fucking arse.

yes he is playing amazing well. I think the windy conds are really affecting Federer.....whereas Cilic can hit through it.
As I said earlier fed is facing a Djoko with Safin's shots. In fact better shots than Safin.

Cilic always had great shots...even before he pumped up.
He takes the ball early and that is talent. he is a talented one dimensional player....well helped by his size certainly. It gives him bigger margins.

FK, why can't you give credit to Cilic, he is hitting incredibly hard and making Fed work in his service games. He is completely outmuscling Fed.

Nishikori was in trouble vs. Raonic, he'll likely be in More trouble vs. Cilic. Anyway good to have two new guys in the final.

Re: US Open 2014: MOTD Day 12 Sat 06/09/2014 Men's Semifinal
That was something else - I knew Fed could lose but I did not expect this demolition. Cilic was brilliant, he could do no wrong. Three aces in the final game - and I was wondering if he would finally crack there.
Fed looked totally helpless; no matter what he tried did not work.
As brilliant as Cilic was, he was helped by Fed being so-so at best. Fed was pretty poor returning Cilic's serves - he normally returns even biggest serves better than this. And he was making too many errors off the ground. Sure, some were forced by the pace of Cilic's shots, but he gave away a good few cheaper ones too. If Fed had been a bit steadier, he could have at least kept it closer and given Cilic more time to think and cool off.
Oh well.

@SB, completely agree, not a good match from Fed in any way, Cilic however could do no wrong. Disparity in levels mirrored in the 3-0.

Re: US Open 2014: MOTD Day 12 Sat 06/09/2014 Men's Semifinal
What a night folks. Only saw the few games of the first semi, but the second semi wasn't a much lesser shock. And i'm talking about the ease of how Cilic beat Fed. I don't think Edberg en Fed will discuss much about this one: Cilic simply hits too hard, this put fed constantly on his backfoot.
Cilic can do what a Delpo in form can do: blow opponants off court but right now i doubt Delpo can play this big. Whereas Delpo usually grants his opponant a few neutral BH's at some point, Cilic did not take his foot off the gas for a single moment.

Definitly his achilles heel. Cilic served great, but the ones Federer should have got, he didn't

Re: US Open 2014: MOTD Day 12 Sat 06/09/2014 Men's Semifinal
As I said I don;t think any other player could have beaten Federer so convincingly tonight. he did not play that bad but had to deal with a very difficult ball, very pacy and deep. It did not allow him to get any rhythm and confidence.
Against Nishi or even Djoko there would have been closer sets but clearly Fed was tired. Tired from the Toronto and Cincy and more so from the previous round.
It's good to have at last a new name on the slams. Haven't we all asked for a change of guard? well bar Fed of course.

Federer on Cilic ban: "I truly believed he didn't do anything wrong in the sense that he did it on purpose." Trusts Cilic, he says.

Yes, but he also had the 0:5 H2H with Fed.
I hope Nishi saves the day on Monday and returns tennis to its human roots.

His dead-pan face when answering the question certainly suggested it.
Not good.
Will probably be seen as "wise" by many, though.
Makes you want to go for a long, quiet walk by the river...

On that occasion I think it was stupid from the journalist to raise that question. We can't prove it so we may as well shut up (I am talking for broadcasters), plus how bad loser fed had looked had he raised doubts? He did make the points when he lost twice to Canas at IW and MIami 07 but here it's a Slam semi and Cilic had still to play very well. As Fed says he took the ball early and was not retrieving purely relying on legs and lungs. But certainly muscles improve safety in pace considerably.
