Wimbledon Prize money up 40%!!!!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/tennis/22266581
Just shows how players were robbed in the past. I don't think tennis is more popular now than at the Fedal time, yet there was significantly less money for players, much more for organisers.
At least they are doing a good thing to rectify....who says there is an economical crisis?

Re: Wimbledon Prize money up 40%!!!!
I dont know why they didnt put a roof on court 1 when they did centre court???
Its so ridiculously stupid that they couldnt think of it back then and that it will take at least another 6 years before its done!
The roof on centre court apparently cost around 15 million and took 2 years to complete...how???

Am I the only one missing the waiting for matches to resume?

Do you mean you don't mind the drama of rain interruption? Can be fun especially if Sir Cliff's in the house...but imagine paying for a debenture ticket on a Court 1 and seeing next to nothing....

I had one of my ticket reimbursed beause of less than an hour of play...I was still happy to be there, wait and walk the ground...sure annoyed at teh time, but good memory in retrospect. It allowed me also to watch matches I could not have seen had they been played on time under the roof. (Nadal v Nieminen on court 1...and others ...due to rain the day before.)

Yes, but that's once in a blue moon, they always make sure that they stretch that hour so they don't have to issue refunds.
It certainly isn't going to stop me, though...

The thing is I am aware that what "I" want is not always what I really want. I keep good memory of rain breaks in retrospect and in particular of the excitment of seeing a match re-start...while I do not keep special memory of well planned indoor matches.
In other words, I don't like waiting for rain breaks...even though I like it.

Re: Wimbledon Prize money up 40%!!!!
I must say every time I went, and that's 3 times now I've had fantastic sunshine, incl the Olympics final, when it started miserably (the first match was under the roof) but then the sun broke out for the men's final, they opened the roof, I had my Pimms in my hand and life was simply glorious.....
I still remember waiting for the match to start, eyes closed and just absorbing all the sounds and the sun...really special. Can't compare to O2, that's for sure.
