Marion Bartoli Is Back!

Great news as I have been a big fan of her.

Can’t wait to see her play Ostapenko! 

Her case is quite strange in some ways:



Basically, she said her body couldn’t cope with what was required to be at the top. Her eyes don’t look truthful, though.

Her weight plummeted after retirement and she became anorexic but has bounced right back and looks bigger than ever.




I don’t know if  this weight yo-yoing is psychological, but am really glad she decided to come back.

To come back for a pizza? Way to go if she wants to be back playing at a good level.

Well, if her body has healed, there is no reason she can’t play well again.

She is very strong mentally and a great competitor.

I know today’s players are all giraffes that bash missiles, but are also quite fragile and 1d.

Anyway, rotla will be delighted.

I just realised she is 33, and will be closer to 34 when she is planning to return (March).

Well, what can I say.

Tennis virus is a mighty one.

“Bartoli was introduced to tennis by her medical doctor father, Walter, when she was six years old. She would practice tennis with him late at night after school on small, icy, unevenly surfaced courts which restricted free movement and influenced her playing style. When weather was sufficiently bad, they would train in an old indoor facility where there was very limited room between baseline and the wall, meaning Bartoli became adept at playing inside the baseline. He devised original training methods, such as improving hand-eye coordination by using balls of different size and color, or encouraging Marion to stay on her toes by taping tennis balls to the heels of her shoes. He drove hundreds of kilometres to tournaments while she would do her homework in the back of the car.”


When you read things like this and remember that Toni turned Nadal into a leftie, it makes you wonder what limits there are to an “imaginative” mind...
