Who Is Going To Be The New Number One?
Who Is Going To Be The Next Number One?
Regardless of how long Nole will be able to hold on to his atm untouchable looking position, I think we can discuss the new number one possibly even for next year, but more likely in 2018.
I can't see anyone dominating straight away, so probably a frequent change at the top.
Murray is the fittest and most consistent successor and had a good chance this year with injured Djokovic.
Magnus Norman said Stan is looking to become steadier and to me it meant he may be going for number next year, too.
Key of course will be slams.
Whoever wins two can have a legitimate chance.

Re: Who Is Going To Be The Next Number One?
i dont think that murray will never see the no1 ranking
to get the no1 ranking you need to either win at least 2 majors a year,or
dethrone the no1
murray cant do either even if he has the luck of the draw on his side
he proved in the match with nishikori that he hasnt got what it takes to be the no1 player in the world
its is an interesting question though,we will probably know the answer to that next june

Re: Who Is Going To Be The Next Number One?
To be fair Murray was very close and still is. Murray is 2k points...one slam away to become number 1(one has to look at the race ranking to get a fair picture). Stan is way behind....then Rao and Nishi are further down.
I however think that Djoko is going to lose his number 1 ranking soon. He has 4500pt to defend by January. This is a lot.
The day one younger isherwood player starts to grow in consistency....we may have Murray making the most of that opp and steel it from Djoko though last month he was the first to suffer from the new guard.
I think Nishi could become the next number 1....but after that Zverev is the most likely. Beating 2 top 10 player at 19....has not been seen for a very long time.

Re: Who Is Going To Be The Next Number One?
Zverev beating 2 top 10 at 19 reminds me of Nadal's early days.
He bought time by being fit.
Same with Coric, same with Zverev.
Is that going to be enough in this era for Zverev? He runs down a lot of balls and that's not a good sign for future...he's asking for injuries like that being quite tall.
All tall baseline young players have already paid the price for their fitness with injuries: Raonic Kyrgios, even Dimi...you'll never be able to be number one if you can't last the whole season.
Would he beat Pouille?

And what happened to Kokki? He looked promising too.
Pouille is certainly a good player. Will he have that same professional, dedicated approach as Murray and Djoko? Cause this is what makes those guys so difficult to beat.
He does not seem to be prepared to play ugly. I liked the way he returned yesterday. Pretty solid.

Yes, he also comes across as smart.
I don't think he'll play ugly. And he was already been on the receiving end of it a bit from Monfils in AO 15.
He'll just keep improving steadily.
He has to solidify and work on his serve as much as possible in the off season to give himself freedom to be relaxed and aggressive with his FH and play his game.

Re: Who Is Going To Be The Next Number One?
I don't know what happened to Kokki, probably injured.
As for Pouille's dedication, I believe he has high ambitions. The fact he moved to Dubai to imorovemhis training regime says a lot.
And now that he's shown how promising he is on the big scene, FTF will help him as much as he needs.
So long as they don't burden him with pressure.
So far, Pouille has been handling everything really well.
Even against Cilic in DC, he got thrashed in the first set but then kept olayinhus game and steadied himself, lost unluckily in the 2nd set TB, won the 3rd set and then faded in the 4th.
Compare that with Gasquet who lost to Cilic in 3 easy the day sets two days later.

Interesting that first Murray (tiredness) and now Nole (injury) cancelled Beijing.
I can't see either make the trip just to play Shanghai a week later.
It's all strange...
At least the rest get a chance to shine.
Berdych must he desperate to qualify for WTF, how else can we explain him playing two weeks of 250 tournaments on different continents back to back...
PS
All in all, it looks like nobody able to vote on this one!
I must say I don't want to click on Murray option either!

the other question has to be who will win the WTF
i think that we could see a new winner as djokovic has been very vulnerable of late
it will be a desaster if murray were to win

Good point, I'll add the poll to the WTF Race thread.
Yes...my LTA source told me after Wimbledon Nole wasn't going to win anything until the rest of the year.
When LTA want a Wimbledon title, they get it.
I expect nothing less for the number one, though really glad Nishi foiled their plans...
So next six months will be very interesting, for sure.

so you believe that theres a lot of match fixing going on? even at the highest level of the game?noleisthebest wrote:Veejay wrote: ^^

its been known to happen on the challengers tour cause those guys are desperate for the cash so theyll take 50 grand to loose a match but when youre playing for millions and prestigious titles youd have to be offered millions for it to even be remotely attractive, plus theres always the possibility that you could get wrapped up in a career ending/ruining scandal that will live with you to the day you die
however,i do remember murray alluding to match fixing once and it seemed like he was cautioned cause it was never spoken of again and then there was also the scandal where federer got wrapped up in with his agent( i think?) making a bet on a match with federer at RG
the hard part i see with saying that if LTA want a winbledon title, they get it is that if that was truly the case then wouldnt murray have won wimbledon for the las 5 years?

No, I don't think there is much match fixing going at the high level at all, I am somehow convinced that 2013 Wimbledon final was.
As Tenez said, Serbia is a tiny country, so easy to apply pressure there.

Re: Who Is Going To Be The Next Number One?
surprising to hear especially you say that NITB cause for that theory to have any credence we would have to believe that djokovic tanked a wimbledon final for murray to win the title
while i agree that it was a very surprising loss and that djokovic seemed to play well below par,i dont know if i believe that he would be the kind of athlete that would tank a final no matter what.
i am also not sure that the LTA has enough power to apply pressure on anything beyond tennis so any threat would have had to come from a much higher power
of course theres a possibility that there could be some truth in what youre saying but theres too much that would go into something like that for the lid not to be blown off at least by the serbian media
i am curious to know what kind of relationship your source has with the LTA and what else you can tell us that youve heard

Hehe, Vee, LTA of course keep very, very quiet.
I do hear occasional info about British players, rarely about others.
I assume LTA is one wih ITF and ITF run the whole tennis show, WADA etc...you can fill in the gaps...

I told you Nole isn't going to win anything till the end of the year.
The only new thing between me hearing it and now is these Fancy Bears, they may have thrown a spanner in LTA's works...I don't know....but find it all fascinating...we'll see...

well that cant be much of a conspiracy or insider info cause how many tournaments is he playing before then?
if he was playing everything up to then and lost then i would find that very suspicious indeed, especially after what you just said

Re: Who Is Going To Be The Next Number One?
I can't remember when exactly I was told that...some time during summer, before the Olympics...so Nole hasn't won anything since.
Apparently it was because of the affair, but I doubt that's the whole story.
And has now pulled out of Beijing.
I want to know if Fancy Bears are fancy enough to flag Murray's name.

Re: Who Is Going To Be The Next Number One?
there hasnt been anything for a while now,i think that if they had anything on murray that they would have released it by now, especially since he won the gold medal
to be honest,i dont think that murray would need a TUE if he was training in spain prior to the olympics
it seems that they were only a able to hack info from athletes who competed at the olympics
my guess is thats it from the FB,if im wrong then i dont know what they are waiting for
i think that the biggest question has to be which athletes didnt have TUE's cause whats the chances that an entire olympic team from a country couldnt have a single athlete who didnt need a TUE if so many from other countries needed one
whats going on there?? thats what i want to know

So Andy it is. As expected frankly.
But from now on this poll is quite interesting. Obviously Djoko has the best chance of being the next no.1 but if it aint Djoko i'd say Delpo! If he remains fit, if not: Pouille.

Not sure how to read this. He looks happy for Murray or happy it's no longer Djoko. Or simply he doesn't care but just does a PR job.
The fact is Federer had no problem beating Murray.....but certainly Djoko gave him more hard work.

Nothing comes to mind except Murray's wimble 2016 victory.
