Anyway, let's not get carried away now. As long as Nadal is in the draw, there's no chance of Federer winning this. If Nadal makes it to the final, my hopes are Wawrinka makes it too

I woudl fancy Fed v Andy....if fresh...but I think he will find a much tougher competition in Nishi than Berdych.

Berdych is old geneartion like him, there is no one of this generation touching him...but the new one, the one which learnt the game with those new strings and run everywhere? Much tougher for him. Always been.

The crowd could help Fed as Nishi is emotional. However Unlike against Murray or Djoko Nishi will feel he has nothing to lose.

Frankly I think it will be a very close match.

So Federer can't beat Nadal?  Nonsense. Also, Nadal isn't near what he was 5 years ago.

I guess fed will have an easier task to break.

I know GOAT is the word that must never be used, but this guy is just simply the best tennis player that has ever lived. The virtuosity is absurd - he's out for 6 months, comes back on the run in toward his 36th birthday, and wipes the floor with the World #10 playing a unique brand of attacking tennis based on lightning reflexes and hand-eye co-ordination.

Yes I don;t think he will win the tournament. But on the day he is still the best player by a mile.

In fact we should revert to pre open era when top players would just turn up for the final rounds to beat whoever managed to get through the draw.

i would be very surprised if nishikori beats roger
i gave berdych a better chance to do that
roger played well against berdych but he looked vulnerable in the 2 rounds before that

The other thing is Federer only moving 1171m in the match, just 7.8m per point. That's tantamount to hardly doing any running, it's not much more than a trot to the service line every point.

This match will not be a factor in fitness levels later on.

I missed the first set and few games of set 2 but saw the rest and from what I saw Berdych was the one looking like the older man with no match fitness. Nothing Tomas could do against a genius in full flight.

And this is also why I think he never doped cause why would you take some risk if you can win with a normal human effort.

Of course he did, dipped his tongue on the dust a few times I bet, c.2005, then he found out he can beat anyone without it.
