Amusing to see that Federer is on Laver (of course) while #1 seed Andy Murray is out on Hisense.
In the end, there is only one.

I agree though facing Bird does help! It's clearly the match of the day.

Re: Oz open prediction game - day 5
hmm now thats a pretty shocking loss by novak...
i guess bekker really didnt bring anything to the table...
so murray in a with massive chance to win his first AO and give him a nice cushion for his no1 ranking
big question is if novak can bounce back from this?

He needs to divorce, dump his crappy spiritual guru, spend 3 months hard training and eating meat, re-marry his ex-wife, do the vows again, and there are another 2-3 GS on him.

That's where one realisea how much stronger was Federer mentally. he did not have the physique or Nadal, Murray and Djoko but he kept on fighting, being the aggressor, going for thin margins, being present and though he did not win much of late so close to so many times.

What a result for Evans. Certainly fits the Tenez mould of thinking towards better with age

And?
The backbone of the Tenez theory is players are entering their peaks later in their careers. 26 is hardly young in tennis terms.

LK, no one at 26 is kicking ass these days, guess its 29-30+ the peak age of Tenez.

No, it isn't. It really isn't. You seem to have selective amnesia as well. His argument is that players in their 30s are better than what they were in their 20s. Which is total bollocks. 26 is a winning age for a tennis player as the stats show. Consistently. Why don't you start opening the links I post?
Why don't you go and look what most great players were doing at 26.

Somgood to see RF play fresh and in his terms, i.e. the court is a bit quicker than usual.
Vintage edition, fast rhythm, great footwork.

I started with the commentary (Wilander and someone else), but they were blabbing all the time, spoiling the enjoyment.Tenez wrote:Did you see that volley? Commentator: "Probably only one man can react as fast"
So glad there is a link with no commentating with Eurosport!

Because I am not measuring Evans by great players who had already entered their peak much earlier.
Evans run of results have come late-r in his career eg up and until now. So in other words he is entering into an incline and that incline could go further up. He will get older with that.
And anyways it was light-hearted dig too .

Berd def has the best looking wife, and she looks like she loves her man, so on balance, Berd's done well.

One thing for sure is that Fed woudl not be playing as well with his older racquet. Real shame he did not adopt it earlier.

It's fun watching Fed's face trying to hide how much he loved that BH return.
I think he is surprising even himself tonight.
I am so happy for him.

Re: Oz open prediction game - day 5
What you're looking at here is a once ina lifetime player. Playing near his best at 35. Wonderful tennis this. Question is if he can keep this up for the remainder of the tournament. Problem is at this age - great standard doesn't usually last more than a match or two. Inconsistencies creep in.
But he's had a long break and may be much fresher now than a year ago. Not since Agassi have I seen a player playing top notch tennis like this at 35.

I shall requote this old post of mine
NITB wrote:Very good idea Veejay
I have written about Federer many times in the past, in various contexts.
How can anyone not love him?
I'll write some more as it comes to me, but for now, I'll repost a little poem I cold-heartedly wrote about him last year (got to keep those emotions in check )
He...
is silent.
he is timeless
flies forward flooding
the air with movement of
suspended escape.
burns deeply behind the eye
that sees the end
before it's started.
loves to play
loves to cry
loves the ball
she loves him back.
fire he has
the roaring kind
he tames so well.
P.S.
to one and only RF, may his flight continue!
