The Chung thread....
Clearly there is something special going on about that player. He seems to be progressing at giant steps. I have not seen the match today, nor any of his to be honest since that loss to Berdych last summer (and I remember he was 5/2 up at some stage), BUT he seems to be distributing bagels like a german baker standing at the exit of tube station rush hour.
He won 61 60 in his first round v Wu and 62 60 to Bedene (number 50 in the world!). Last week he distributed 2 other bagels on his way to a challenger win.
Those bagels say one thing, his returning game must be excellent.
I am really excited to see how he does in the business end of this tournament..but I am tempted to predict that he is going to be the best player of his generation.....with Rub....if Rublev keeps pushing hard.

Wow!
Very impressive (the win over Badene).
Last time I saw him was against Stan in USO. Very mature player for his age, similar to Thiem.
Won't be able to watch anything tomorrow, unfortunately.

Chung provided 5 bagels in his last 10 matches. I believe you have to go back to Federer's hey days, if that, to see such profusion!

I looked at the draws, but he is not playing this week. I wonder of he was injured during this last match. He won the first set 6:0 and then lost the other two convincingly.
The one to rewatch would be his match against Stan in USO. Lost in three TBs.

Right, Chung is playing this afternoon...I am not sure I will be able to see it but it's about time he starts to play his game. He has not been the same since that military break.

Re: The Chung thread....
I saw a few points in the second set I think, his BH was bad.
My feeling from what I've seen of him this year is that he plays tense and with more pressure.
He just doesn't have that nice ease about him any more.
He is contiually reacting rather than creating now.
Looks bland.
I could be wrong, as I have only seen an odd game here and there.

I don;t think it has anything to do with pressure. When you are a set up...you relax. I noticed he lost his last few matches being a set...In my view it is physical. A niggle that gets worse when he plays....something like that.

So weird. He has not played since the FO. Even his FB page has not been updated since.

Rubi is not much better...just saw he lost in qualies...to a Serb aged 28, I have never heard of!

I don't see this... I think he has missed the bus. The best he can do is what Dimitrov has achieved. A top-20 for a small time.

No. He did not play for 4 months and had poor results before that.....all the signs of an injury.
Not sure whether he healed completely though.

Tennis culture and infrastructure may not be enough in South Korea to develop great tennis players. Almost all nations have their eyes on some sports and that where they invest. South Korea can invest mostly on Football, Hokey, Archery... tennis not so much. His militery service may also be his own choice ( plus his folks and family)
Fed also served in military for some time.

I was right. One doesn't miss so long for no reason.
He climbed the ranking faster than anyone last year and teh impressive thing is that he was distributing bagels almost in any all his match.
If he gets completely healed....he will be in the top 20 very soon.

Do we know what injury?
That can five clearer answers for the future.
When I watched him last he was nit playing with "old" ease, was defensive and on the back foot.

Re: The Chung thread....
I had high hopes with many players who have shown promised at young age.. then fizzled out in oblivion ...
Unless Chung is an exception, it won't be much different...
My best bet among all young players is Thiem.. and I think he will be ahead of Chung.. always

Me too. Thiem is gonna be very big - I'd say at least 3 slams. Kyrgios will if he starts to give a shit. Coric is looking good also. However, it's much too early to say Chung has missed the bus. He's 20.

I agree provided he doesn't flog his body to death. He's played so much this year, surprised he hasn't burnt out. Better schedule management and he could challenge the top 4 next year.

Thiem will be much better than Murray and Djoko. It doesn't mean he will win more slams. He will face better player than Murray and Djoko too who will challenge his SHBH like crazy.
I like Thiem but I fear those kind of games are obslete. He could turn into a Dimi easily.

he is back full time it seems and winning everything he enters.
Shame he only plays the challengers close to his home. He needs to compete in Europe if he really wants to progress further. Not so long ago he was bagelling everyone and was very close to beating Cilic a world number 8.

I would also have another judgement on Thiem: He might not even do as well as Dimi!
