Like it or not, it just ain't the same without Nole...
Notice how Nishi & Fognini are safely away from Nadal...who's going to stop him?

Tomic is gutless.
Fognini is actually only three matches away from Nadal...that would be fun!
...unless Stan the divorced man regathers emotionally and turn the new leaf...he can be so good on clay.

Stan always had trouble with the mental side of the game. Family issues, divorce etc. just can't get him to focus on tennis atm. I'll be surprized if he even reached the QF in Madrid.

Cause if you think about it, he beat nadal just once out of the many times they played...it was not on clay......Stan had a fantastic day with nothing to lose then while Nadal had everything to lose and certainly panicked.....probably his first sign of panick that AO14 final.

Some interesting matches today:
Tomic, Gulbis, Vesely already out....poor Kholi having to play Falla today after yesterday's draining final in Munich...only for the privilege of having to face Murray AGAIN in R2

I can see Fed losing to Kyrgios tomorrow. Fed probably wants a rest.

I hope not.
Kyrgu should not be too much trouble for Fed.
So many good matches tomorrow!

Re: ATP Masters 1000: MADRID
Fognini-Dimi should be a good one, too!
Also,
Kei-Goffin
&
Murray-Kholi
Question of the Day:
Can Johnson do it?
He's got a booming serve and reasonable movement, (similar to but not as good as Sock), good start/breakthrough season so far...
I just don't know if he can translate his game to clay

Less likely, maybe 5% change of this happening. Nadal on clay is not going to be troubled by big servers.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: MADRID
Problem for Johnson is taste Nadal's spin for the first time....and on clay. So very unlikely. Though on clay a big serve is actually quite a weapon.

Estoril champ vs Istanbul champ in the 2nd round and I believe it's Kyrgios first ever time playing in Madrid, I think this will be the tastiest shotmaking match of the tournament.

Isner 4-0 ahead in a set???! After playing 2 tiebreaks, that is fishy.

Estoril was won by Gasquet, right??

Ah yea, but we all know Gasquet had that "coke" thing a few years ago from a club so that's good enough to strip him of Estorilraiders_of_the_lost_ark wrote:AceofDeath wrote:Estoril champ vs Istanbul champ in the 2nd round and I believe it's Kyrgios first ever time playing in Madrid, I think this will be the tastiest shotmaking match of the tournament.

Fognini should have too much for Dimitrov on this bouncy clay

Ok so Nadal can breathe and be calm now that his owner Fognini has left the picture. Berdych keeps his form going for another day, dejavu.

I saw next to nothing today...just tuned to Johnson-Nadal...
Shame Fognini lost, my favourite clay player.

To me this Johnson is easily as good as a Soderling. More or less same power but much more agile and versatile.

Yes but if you look at the score....he was not doing much better. He even got beat 1 and 0 on the same court.noleisthebest wrote:I think Sod had a better BH.

Nadal played well today. Good BH, good length so that shoudl do some good to his confidence....however the rest of the field is catching up.

The plan from Sod was always to lose easily and look like an amateur in that match then show his true skills for the RG meetingTenez wrote:Yes but if you look at the score....he was not doing much better. He even got beat 1 and 0 on the same court.noleisthebest wrote:I think Sod had a better BH.
It is weird how Nadal played a match with no deuces on his serve or return

Re: ATP Masters 1000: MADRID
Unfortunately, I couldn't see much of the match, had to do my French homework.
But the little I saw I noticed Nadal was moving really well, and that's the key for his game.
All looks the same as last year more or less...he'll end up playing drained Nole and win by the skin of his teeth helped by a set of weird circumstances...

Kyrgios plays the same as Rosol: swinging from the hips, hoping for the best!
Well at least they both managed to beat Nadal in Wimbledon like that
