1. Andy Murray (GBR) [8] - I have never seen Bachinger before, so although I believe, Murray will fall before the QF, I don't think it will be to Bachinger.
2. Pablo Andujar (ESP) - Nishikori looked strong vs. Odesnik, but playing the odds here, since I believe Andujar does have a chance vs. Nishikori.
3. Guillermo Garcia-Lopez (ESP) [28]
4. Tommy Robredo (ESP) [16]
5. Philipp Kohlschreiber - should be a nice one to watch
6. Nick Kyrgios (AUS)
7. Benoit Paire (FRA)

I hope to catch a bit of Kholi-Llodra, should be a good match as both are "ancient" SBH-ers and seemed to have cruised through the first round.
Llodra plays such old-school of sharp, crisp volleying. I'll miss him when he retires from his singles career at the end of the year, he already said goodbye in RG.
.....no chance, they are on court 5.
Eurosport player is such a disappointment this USO showing only one match, whereas during RG there were 4-5 to choose from..

That's because skysport don't want them to have more.noleisthebest wrote:I hope to catch a bit of Kholi-Llodra, should be a good match as both are "ancient" SBH-ers and seemed to have cruised through the first round.

I quite like Seppi's game. It's simple and stylish. He is not strong mentally but a classy player.

Gojo takes the 2nd set 7:5 after Raonic chokes serving to stay in it...
Murray's match is even worse than Rao-Gojo...
This is the worst 1st round I can remember for some time. No upsets, not even one decent match.

Raonic looks so slow on the baseline, he can't hit a shot on the run at all, esp the BH, still a big weakness.

This weakness will be with him forever. Its not him, its his size. Its not easy running around with such a huge frame.

Del Potro is one of the only super tall guys who has very good movement. Tsonga isn't bad either considering weight.

I don't mind anyone in particular, but not too thrilled with the game becoming conspicuously taller.
I can live with occasional classic giraffes a la Isner and Ivo, but these hybrids who not only serve from the trees but rally as well, they are not that interesting to watch when playing each other.
JJ, Raonic, Anderson, Pospisil, Groth, Vesely De Schepper, Rosol etc, even Dimi, Tomic etc to a small degree, it's just too much as the creativity is gone out of the window.
Just soulless pounding. No grace and beauty of footwork.
Even Kyrgu, Monfils, Pierre-Herbert...being super athletes, the court has become too small for them, but at least they bring a bit of fizz and spark.
Delpo is a bit different as he really does not use his height for serving at all, mainly his huge wingspan that compensate for the footspeed.
Apparently the game regulates itself in cycles, but I really can't see the reversion of this trend, especially with modern strings technology as well as "medicine" & nutrition.

Re: US Open 2014: MOTD Day 4 Thu 28/08/201434
So many retirements already, they are well on their way to set a new record regarding that. Surprisingly enough, it was Andujar who retired and not Nishikori. Sorry for Llodra, well, at least he won a match here.
I had seen the first Gojo-Raonic match in Halle and the one here was quite similar. Gojo just is one of the people who can return Raonic and expose his obvious weakness - his movement. He moves like a lump and I agree that he will likely be unable to change that because it is caused by his big frame. Though I don't know all the benefits of modern medicine in this regard - a few years ago, nobody would have thought it possible that someone with the height of Bolt could run the 100 mtrs in a mind-blowing record winning time. Anyway - not everybody benefits the same and I suspect, Raonic might have drawn the short end.
Murray apparently had it easier this time, he now said that there was something wrong with his "nutrition" that caused the cramps. Weird...

He probably meant something "missing" in his nutrition.Autumnleaf wrote:So many retirements already, they are well on their way to set a new record regarding that. Surprisingly enough, it was Andujar who retired and not Nishikori. Sorry for Llodra, well, at least he won a match here.
