I can't believe it....I just wrote a very special long heartfelt article, spent half an hour typing it, and lost it while I was looking for a photo to attach...I feel like something in me just died. And I want to scream.

Always copy and paste what you write to wordpad and save regularly when doing long text posts. It happened to me once, and never again.

Too hot a day today in Melbourne. Extreme heat policy applied and roof closes at 2 courts. Rest suspended till it cools down.

AO always has been a tournament of retirements. It broke all records this year.

Tough luck nitb. It has happened with everyone who writes articles/posts on a computer. Do as Fedking suggests, save it in a notepad or some editor.

Agut taking Delpo to the 5th set. Will Delpo not even show up to face Nadal? Come on Delpo.

Delpotro is tired and the spaniard is playing well taking the ball early (ier than nadal for sure).
Andujar serving for the match.

Am I the only one who finds Federer's score v Kavcic suspicious? 2, 1 and close TB! Very much in the line of his matches for the last 24 months if not more: easy sets followed by struggle....and nothing to do with confidence in my view but a sudden stiffness.
I did not see the match so cannot really say...just suspicious to me.

Re: Australian Open 2014 : MOTD : Day 4
I had emergency sleep policy enforced today so haven't seen any matches at all, just played all morning and afternoon.
Really happy for Simon and Paire.
A bit disappointed by Delpo but not surprised as I saw Agut live in Wimbledon last summer lose a tight match against Ferrer.
He has a decent all court game and quite a nice forehand, probably the only watchable Spaniard on tour.
He has been playing well in the last few weeks, too.
Really happy for Simon and Paire.

I agree he has some good shots...plus he plays with a tough racquet. Is that the 90in racquet or the 95in?
Delpo was made to run by Andu taking the ball early...and at the end he looked completely exhausted.

JS will rejoice today. Nadal got a gift from his fellow countryman. Delpo played too passive especially in the 5th set.

Fed's alright.. He played out of his skin 1st 2 sets-- just beautiful to watch.. There's nothing like Federer in full flight. In the 3rd, he was still moving really well, serving fully. It looked more like a concentration issue which we know has plagued him a bit.. Kavcic also upped his shot making considerably. I didn't see any of the signs which I typically catch of Fed's back acting up. + He was in a really good mood after the match :-) laughing it up during the incourt interview, signing autographs for awhile..
For 2 sets though-- it wasn't hard to start to believe again :-)

yes....good to hear truffin. I find it strange that he was not asked to play an eve session yet though....is it his choice? I know he hates it when the weather cools down.

It sounds like he will in 3rd round... then prob featured afternoon slot in 4th- then all night matches from there on out.. He mentioned in his presser last night that while he was glad to finish out the forecasted hottest days, he expected the 2nd week to be "dramatically slower conditions- esp at night"
ESPN3 had a stat last night that Federer's match was being watched and streamed by 2/3 more people than Nadals match at same time.... there's never been a draw like Federer.
of course at 3am in the morning in USA- prob amounted to 500 people :-)

Actually, things like that interest me... What is your source?
Since Federer outpaces Nadal in every measurable popularity barometer- endorsements, ratings, polls, sales of merchandise, etc- I'd be interested in this twitter anomaly.. maybe younger generation on twitter?
Please provide the link or source.. Thanks!

I was at the Nike Store Westfield yesterday (the big one in Stratford); I had bought some trainers so didn't have enough left to my the new Nadal Nike tennis kits. So I went earlier today, and guess what? Nadal's NIKE range sold out, despite their being many in stock yesterday. But the Federer kits were still there.
I asked the shop assistant as to whether they simply store more Federer kits, but he said no; the Nadal range were simply some of the fastest selling and it was nigh on impossible for them to keep up with the demand.

Federer is currently the most popular player in the world though, no doubt about that; but I feel Nadal is getting more popular as we speak.

Exactly! It says a lot about Nadal's fan. The only thing I'd like to buy from Fed is his talent....but unfortunately that is not for sale. I still think Fed is one of the best dressed out there....but that is not what makes me want to watch him play.
Different fan base I guess..

Re: Australian Open 2014 : MOTD : Day 4
Thanks for the link amerit. My career was in promoting athletes so this type info interests me. Your 1 store example doesn't mean much at all- area, demographics, are a factor, as the RF line far outsells the Rafa bull line worlwide. That's why Nike produces 20+ different rf hat designs a year vs a few rafa hats, etc.. I have friends at Nike executives and have seen the numbers- it's not even close- which is also why fed had a 10 million a year nike contract vs 4 million for nadal
I'll do some research into this twitter blip. My guess is generational, but then seeing falla had more twitter posts than federe pretty much puts it into perspective that it's not a meaningful guage of popularity
