Re: ATP Masters 1000: TORONTO, Rogers Cup
What if it rains all day tomorrow? Will they take it to monday? I don't remember anytime such a thing has happened, just wondering what could be the conclusion if it couldn't finish on Sunday.

yes, they'll play on Monday, but I don't think it'll come to that.

It worries me that Nole's been having trouble serving out sets and matches recently. Ah ,well, so long as he does the job...and I can re-go to bed

I love Novak's forehand, and this match looked like a great tune-in session for Nole on that wing.

The match to start in about 4 hours time. I don't think I can stay up till that time. I just hope that Gasquet can push it to the 3rd set and I can get to see some of it in the morning.
I'm expecting Gasquet to lose this. But I won't expect a spectacular play from the winner. I think Djo will try to win it on rallying.

I'll stay up to watch
I would be very, very surprised by anything but straight sets win for Nole.
Gasquet is no match for him in any department. I noticed Nole played nice and aggressively every time he could.
It will be interesting to see how Gasquet approaches the match.

And Nole does it eeeeeeasiily 6:3 6:2 !!!!!
Really enjoyed watching him this week, his feet gripping those hard courts beautifully, looking like fish back into water.
Plenty to look forward in the rest of the season.
GO NOLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Very cute presentation, Gasquet charming with his English as usual, and Nole, well....a generous soul, very happy to win another tournament, (3rd time in a row) after a bit of a break since Montreal. Carrying his trophy proudly all around the court waving at his fans, this means a lot to him after the olympic disappointment.
Well done Nole, keep on rolling 'em!

Re: ATP Masters 1000: TORONTO, Rogers Cup
woke up early and saw the match was still over. Seeing the scoreline now, it was all done in just about an hour. Well what else was I expecting from Gasquet. Absence/fatigue/injury to some other players allowed him to reach a masters final and collect some valuable points, something he hadn't done in years.
Must be an easy one Djo. I suggested yesterday itself, out of the 3 his biggest challenger could be Isner. Once he was gone, neither Tipsy nor Gas :joker: could stop him wining his 2nd Masters title of the year.

So again no masters for anyone outside top 4 despite of the fact that only one of them was playing here.

Shows the quality of the playing field and the golden era.wow3 wrote:So again no masters for anyone outside top 4 despite of the fact that only one of them was playing here.

Important win for Novak after the disappointing summer European leg of the tour
Nice to see Gasquet in a final for a change

Important in terms of getting the points which what he exactly wanted and was looking for when he decided to play for 3 continuous weeks. But I don't think it does too much to indicate any form or boost up a lot of confidence which a player gets by winning a masters. It might do better for someone who has never won a masters, but for someone like Djo who has already achieved so much, its just a good decent win. Its like if he wins against the playing field that we get in Hamburg or Valencia kind of ATP500 tournaments. The path was easy to start off and it became easier as the tournament went on. None bar 34 year old Haas put up enough to challenge him.

Nice to look on paper, but nothing much if you look deep. Stars lined up for him and he made the most he could. The manner of his loss yesterday was so poor, it clearly showed how below his play was compared to Djo's. Djo didn't have to do anything close to special and he wins in an hour. Though I like to see lot of other players (especially young talented ones ) apart from the top-4 reaching masters finals and even winning, but this is not what I wanted. These players reached the later stages because others were absent/injured/fatigued.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: TORONTO, Rogers Cup
Well I think it was much needed for his confidence, even though his biggest rivals withdrew from the tournament, its wins like these that got Rogers confidence back and then he was able to build on that, remember how he was mostly only facing Tsonga towards the end of last year season
But I also agree that he needed to compete to defend his ranking points
Gasquet is definitely an under achiever and as beautiful a player he is to watch,at the same time its very frustrating,he should be making far more finals with his kind of talent

Re: ATP Masters 1000: TORONTO, Rogers Cup
Tsonga is a dangerous player for anyone, but his game matches well for Fed. He is a very good 1-2 punch player who just doesn't allow the opponent to get into rhythm. For Murray its different in some ways. Murray who mainly relies on right tactic to win, can beat Tsonga but for Fed Tsonga is a challenge. He sure was last year when he beat him at wimbledon. In the whole match Fed could only get 1 BP and all the 3 sets he was under the gun to hold on. If I remember correctly he won 5 consecutive sets against Fed last year. So beating such an opponent is bound to make one feel a lot better. SO those wins were very important.
