ATP Masters 1000: TORONTO, Rogers Cup
If ever a saying had a meaning, this one does today: Life goes on.
Yesterday's glory is behind and slowly but surely beginning to gather tiniest particles of dust.
And while the golden shimmer of Olympic Sunday still makes some fan's eyes wide and wild, tennis circuit relentlessly moves on.
The magical, beautiful, inspirational, once in a lifetime Double Wimbledon is over giving way to blandness of American hard-courts.
The last slam of the year is just a few weeks away, and the two traditional 1000 Masters events are coming up back to back.
Federer and Nadal have already pulled out of the tournament as well as some other players. Still the field is strong:
Djokovic, Murray, Tsonga, Berdych, Tipsarevic, Raonic, Fish , Isner, Simon, Del Potro, Gasquet etc.
The Draw:

Order of Play:

Nole will be keen to put a relatively disappointing grass season behind and defend the title in Toronto. for it was here it all started for him in 2007

Re: ATP Masters 1000: TORONTO, Rogers Cup
The latest development:
"Olympic gold medalist Andy Murray will fly to Toronto for this week’s Rogers Cup, but is unsure whether he will actually compete. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Roddick have already pulled out. Murray has a bye and is scheduled to play on Wednesday.
"Toronto, the plan is to go there and play. It’s not ideal, but tennis
has its rules and I’ll be there for sure," said Murray, who is the No. 2
seed behind Novak Djokovic. "Whether I play or not, I’ll have to see how my body feels on Tuesday."

A news about Andy. There is a postage stamp released to commemorate his historic Olympics Gold win.
http://www.atpworldtour.com/News/Tennis/2012/08/Features/London-Olympics-Murray-Honoured-On-Stamp.aspx
Does Djokovic or Nadal or Pete have their stamps?? I know Fed has but I think it took him a while and a lot more than what's Murray did to get it. Now I understand this all Murray craze in GB. He is lot more than any other GB gold medalist in this olympics.

Empty stand and empty seats in Toronto, even for the Night prime-time matches. For this tournament, I want Berdych or Raonic or some young player to win it. It would be very good for his confidence and will surely make things more interesting in the coming weeks.

I think Nole had his stamp first all the way back in 2008 after winning his first slam in AO. Naturally, I've got that stamp

I'd like Nole to win this one, just to steady the ship after the very disappointed losses he suffered in both Wimbledons.
I wouldn't mind if either Bird or Raonic do well, either.
Haven't seen any matches but would like to see Haas Nalbandian. I wonder what Rosol is doing these days...
As for the empty stands, strange...they get one tournament a year, a local hope and can't be bothered to turn up..

Tsonga - Chardy
Fognini - Kohlschreiber
Cilic - Baghdatis
Stepanek - Delpotro
Simon- Haas
Benneteau - Berdych
Murray - Cippola

Re: ATP Masters 1000: TORONTO, Rogers Cup
Delpo lost to Stepanek. I was expecting it. After the emotional olympics he had , he could never had enough time or energy to recover and be ready for Toronto. Dolgo too lost after winning Washington on sunday. This year's ATP scheduling has been very tight on players, one needs to carefully manage his schedule.
Murray and Djo too having their matches today. They may win, but its not likely to be easy.

Couldn't see any of the matches except the Delpo-Stepanek one. Looking at the scores now. Looks like Djo and Murray both had to fight off some games for their wins.
Good result for Haas to beat 9th seed Simon. I always love to see such pushers lose to an attacking player. Tsonga was expected to lose, he had too much tennis off late.

Lack of postings in this forum off late. I feel bad for nitb. Tenez has been holidaying since long, and I don't get enough time and plus the Toronto timezone is entirely opposite to mine. Its all late night and very early morning matches for me. Though I like to watch tennis even staying awake at night, I'm just preparing for Cincy and US open. Those will be many sleepless nights in the coming weeks.

Hope things pick up in the coming weeks.

I only saw the Nole match but there are some great ones today and I hope to see more. Really enojyed Nole's match, I must admit I missed hardcourt tennis, olympics was a bit of a has with those courts being so badly damaged and not prepared well enough after the "normal" Wimbledon.raiders_of_the_lost_ark wrote:Couldn't see any of the matches except the Delpo-Stepanek one. All today's matches should be real crackers:
Cilic - Tipsarevic
Monaco-Fish
Djokovic - !uerrey
Raonic - Murray
Isner- Kohlschreiber
Gasquet- Berdych
Haas - Stepanek
Long live tennis

Re: ATP Masters 1000: TORONTO, Rogers Cup
Lots of good matches. I'm not sure how much effort either Djo or Murray are going to put trying to win this tournament. Olympics was both physically and mentally exhausting.
Djo: Defending 1000 points, good chance to make it easily to the final with Delpo and Tsonga gone. Those 1000 points could be important in the coming weeks.
But he looked slow and fatigued at the Olympics bronze medal match. Played but was more of "let me finish it all so that I can leave". I expected Delpo to win and Djo not trying his best effort for a Bronze. Should he putting more stress considering he is defending 2600 points in the coming 4 weeks?
Murray: I think he is playing Toronto with the same motivation and reason as he did in the Asian swing last year, to gain as many points as possible as he too is defending 1000 next week in Cincy. He is looking to get ahead of Nadal like he did in 2009. . Well lets see.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: TORONTO, Rogers Cup
My take for the today's winners:
1. Cilic
2. Monaco
3. Djo but Querry can surprise if it comes down to tie-breakers and his serve is firing.
4. I'm going for Raonic.
5. Kohli has too much variety for Isner. But will be glad to be worng here as I like Isner too.
6. Berdy definitely, but he is shaky atm. Very shaky.
7. Anyone's pick. I'm going with Haas, just on form.

Haas looking like going out against Djo in 3rd set. But very well played Haas for the effort he has put in. Playing 6 sets all in 1 day 3 of which against an opponent almost a decade younger, being 34 years of age, not easy .. not easy at all.

Bravo!! to Haas. He showed great character in today's matches. Playing 6 sets being 34 on the same day isn't easy. And what a fight he put in the loosing cause to Djokovic.
Djo faces his "friend" Tipsy in the semis. This tournament is entirely his to lose, he won't get a better chance to grab those 1000 points and steady his ship and keep himself close to Fed in the ranking points. Perhaps this is his motivation to play in Toronto despite this packed schedule.

Djo_tipsy just started. Its too late night there and I think Djo didn't like the match to start so late [commentators are saying that ]. It must be late, its morning already for me here.
A bit of shaky play from both, creating BP chances and then squandering them with silly errors.

Djo in control. Tipsy just can't stay with him in the rallies. He can't close out the point even when in complete control of the rally. He just can't. either will lose that advantage giving a mid court ball for Djo to pounce or will make an error himself.
This match was always going to be this way for Djo. leading by a set a 4-1.

yes. the problem for Tips is that everything he can do Nole can do a lot better, plus more. He looks so good on hard courts. Shame this is being played so late, just feels weird and rushed a bit.
The final should be good tomorrow. 7PM local time, although rain forecast again.
Cincy should be good. And then USO, my fav
