Does anyone favour Murray in this encounter? I say 3-1 Novak.

Well I'm not sure whom will I be rooting for. Honestly, it doesnt matter to be whoever wins. but I think tomorrow Murray can win, unless he screws things up badly. Well all players have screwed up in-th-pocket matches, so I can't blame Murray.
In the last 1 year he has reached every GS final he has played. Its better than I had ever expected of him.

Re: Wimbledon 2013: Day 13 Men's Final
The final is going to be tough as never. On one side Murray chasing Wimbledon's win for the Britain for so long and on other side the player, the fighter with a lion's heart and move, actually the lion itself.
What to expect? That is clear, a tough fight.
Decisive factor? Nerves and to keep a player's positioning close to the base line.
What chances? It is not easy to say because I am a biased due to being a big fan of Nole, who is generally better player of Murray, but they play at Wimbledon and Murray has become a darling of all old peoples' homes.
Both base line game is great, both play good volleys, Nole has better serve and return, so that the key point to win for Nole is being focused on the game and not to lose positioning too often.
My perceptions from their Wimbledon matches:
Murray's mental approach to the game got toughened by a margin. His serve and base line has been improved by every match and his move looks very well. He played both previous match with Verdasco and JJ with players who went for winners asap and Murray showed that his defense is great, but he was very rarely a player who dictated the game, which is not his game anyway. Staying passive will not definitely work tomorrow. He needs to mess up the balls all round the court. He is going to get a lot of balls on his half of the court to catch as he has not got it so far from Verdasco and JJ together in both matches
Nole has improved serve and his serve/return with Haas was the best I have seen recently. His great win with Delpo showed that even his FH timing in particular did not work well, he stayed active and was able to come back in the third/fifth set. He showed how the Great champions play. He seems to be comfortable to go for volleys and play nice drop shots. The good thing will be that Murray's FH is not as flatter as Delpo's, so that Nole gets a bit of longer time on his racket.
Both players know each other game pretty well. Murray legs work well on the grass, he will be supported by a vast majority of crowds, so that the match will be the toughest test of their mentallity and how they can keep their focus on the game.
So, although not many fans wanted this matchup for the final, just we got it for the menu. Nole had to go through Delpo, Berd, Haas and the second through JJ, Verdasco and Youzhny. So, too many things seem to be unfair sometimes or not?

This Cup looks Great, I wonder why Women only get a plate. I think that it is unfair to women. Were there any objections or complaints about that in the past? Where is the emancipation?

I think Murray and the crowd can really get to Djoko. He has shown some mental weaknesses recently Djoko....while Murray seems very eager.
I'd rather see Djoko win a second wimby simply cause I still find it hard to warm up to him. Murray still grates.
But I will still go with Djoko....only just.

My naive guide for tomorrow is that Nole is simply a better player and that's why he should win.

I don't really see it myself. . . Novak is playing smart with his forehand repertoire.

Re: Wimbledon 2013: Day 13 Men's Final
I do not think either one is a huge favorite, but I am leaning towards Nole. He has in general looked quite good in most of the really important matches this year; and he has looked pretty impressive this Wimbledon specifically.
I am not yet sure who I will be rooting for - I will find out only once I watch the match. Normally I tend to root for Andy between these two (though not too strongly) but somehow I am not so sure for tomorrow.
As a side note: we may yet find ourselves being grateful to Rafa that he beat Nole at RG

Murray is running out of support here, so let me take his side. I'll be rooting for Murray today. Calodian Craig ( CC) from v2 must have never imagined that this day could ever come. I'm really impressed with their ( CC and banbrotam) faith in Murray and their never giving up on him despite all odds. They predicted 2 years back and well that Murray and Djokovic would be the top 2 players dominating the field.summerblues wrote:I do not think either one is a huge favorite, but I am leaning towards Nole. I must say I was totally wrong to think Murray will not be dominating ever. At slams he is more potent than Fed and Nadal for now.

I think it's difficult for Murray to play smart against Nole.
Murray's "smart" used to be his endless BH slices counter-punching, now he is hitting his FH as hard as he can while he can ( usually a set or two max).
He'd need all the variety under the sun to dislodge Nole from his groove, plus tons of belief and confidence to last in that mode, which is where the crowd comes in.
I wish I was there for Nole today, 15000 people noise effect would be annuled no problem just like in O2 last year....
I hope it doesn't matter in the end

If Murray wins today - we are having a rivalry, if he loses, slim yet firm domination from Novak for another year.
Quite a few things in the balance with the outcome of this match, in fact.
Being placed right in the heart of the season, Wimbledon really is a crossroad.

I have surprised myself, I must say. Actually I don't have any real pick between the 2 and since Djokovic has some good support here on otf. So I just picked him. Also he has lost too many finals to Djokovic, may be I feel a bit for the poor fella.
But its not because he is winning. If that be the case I must have been rooting for Djokovic who certainly is winning more than Murray.

I really hate the tennis the two produce, esp on grass. I can bear it for a set or two, but that's it.
This is a classic example of why DBH must go. They'd never be able to be so comfy on the baseline in those "clever" chess rallies with a SBH.

Some long rallies - this looks much like a hard court match between the two would also look.

Andy takes the first set. Close match so far. Many of Djoko UE's were just out. However Murray doesn't make many mistakes and strikes when he has to. He hits much more winners than Djoko up till now

Yeah, i seems when the rally gets longer the both don't have the power or creativity to give the final blow, so it usually ends with an error. Grass tennis wasn't meant to be that waysummerblues wrote:

The thing is, today Murray only makes mistakes when the rally gets longer.
Djoko said it would be a mental battle, if that's the case: Murray is winning. While Djoko buries he face under his cap, Murray looks sharp and determined.
I have to say, on grass Murray is a bit better than Djoko. But Djoko = Djoko, once he gets a set, the marathon is on. And in that department he's almost unbeatable.

Andy shows how mentally stronger is and it is obvious that the Wimbledon title will be his. He serves with excellent focus and the important balls play with a cooler head than Nole. So, Britain is going to have it after 72 or so years. Really good work from Andy.

Well done Andy, congrats!
Not the best of matches but he pretty much outclassed Nole today. I was particularly surprised that he seemed to play the big points better than Nole who looked the more brittle of the two.
I am also glad he now has two slams. While Nole has always been better than Andy, I do not think 7-1 slam advantage would do Andy justice – he is not that much worse.
Murray may not be #1 in the world, but he is now the only current holder of two slams.

Yes...that's very generous.
I disagree a bit with GP about Murray fully deserving it. He certainly worked really hard for it and deserves it...but to play v Murray and 20 000 people is quite a challenge and had this match been in Serbia it may have had a different result. It's easy to underestimate the power of a crowd, especially when you are on your own out there.
Djoko blames his defeat on his tiredness from his semi. he certainly tried to shorten the points. He hits less winners than Murray but more UEs...so it shows he was trying to force the issue and that view was even shared by the 30 tennis players backing Murray in my club.
Murray gave it all in those 3 sets. I thought that he had to win in 3....cause in set 4 and 5 it may have been a different story...he looked completely drained at the end too.
Again, 3 hours of gruelling tennis, no great shots I can remember though. Djoko has been throwing matches he shoudl have won recently. Quite a bit of them. I still don;t see a rivalry between the 2. On neutral ground Djoko woudl win I am pretty sure.

About to post but Tenez got there first.
Murray didn't need to play smarter, he played better. The stats on the distance run by each player suggested that if Novak had managed to sneak the third he might have gained an advantage, but Murray didn't let him.
Nice interview too.
Unfortunately his ugly mug will now be plastered everywhere in the media, on chat shows, on documentaries, on trashy adverts, billboards. There'll be no escape.
