Tenez- thoughts on this video
Rafa may be not be a ATG volleyer like Sampras or Federer, but he is definitely one of the best out of the top 30 right now.

It's pathetic how slow these surfaces are.... watching Nadal retrieve clean winners with his boring unimaginative baseline rallying.

Both players were injured there- not sure if you can tell from the highlights.Daniel2 wrote:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htCcWsHP18o

Fritz had twisted his right ankle the day before so he couldn't put any weight on it; he had to keep planting his left foot first which meant he made loads of extra UEs.
Nadal also injured- muscle strain in either pectoral muscle or intercostal muscles. Meant he couldn't accelerate through his serve or FH; statistics showed those 2 shots were way slower in final compared to rest of tournament (BH was unaffected).
I think if you watch most Nadal matches so far this year you will see he is playing aggressive tennis from the baseline. Comes to the net way more than most of the 'next gen.'

Re: Tenez- thoughts on this video
Did not watch the final.
Sure he is playing more aggressive but still that's not how he wins matches. Federer played a lot more aggressive with infinetly more talent, yet he struggled v Nadal untril he changed his racket frame.
The point is that like in the AO or in almost all his matches...he still outlasts his opponents. and this is probably why he has to take so many MTOs and drag between points.
Some thing will never change. Nadal will never be an aggressive player. Or should I say a "winning" aggressive player.

Oh look Nadal's injured again just after losing a final.
There's a pattern here I'm just not seeing.

Fritz was also injured as I said- couldn't put any weight on right ankle, so footwork was a complete mess. He was below his normal level and yet won comfortably.
Nadal has been diagnosed with a fracture to his 3rd rib- he'll miss 4-6 weeks which includes start of clay court season.
I know you don't like Nadal- but the theory that he was healthy in this final just doesn't make any sense.

It's not that we dont like Nadal. I don't know him anymore than Federer. However on the court he cheats..and the way he plays, his game based on steroids and stamina, confirms he also cheats when not on the court.

Re: Tenez- thoughts on this video
Fabrice Santoro seemed to think so. He did an interview with On n'est pas couché where, without naming names, he said some players would return from a short break with "4 lungs". I believe this is the interview though I haven't rewatched it to make sure it has that part in it.
Nadal’s uncle Tony has gone on record multiple times detailing the blood transfusions of his own blood that he gets throughout the year. He was so bold as to say until they can find a way to test for this, we will keep on doing it. Nadal has blood drawn when his body is peak condition, i.e. rested, worked out and not sick so his blood is purer and full of his own natural hormones. They store the blood and then do transfusions of his own blood to help aid in recovery. Since it’s his own blood, it doesn’t show up on any known drug tests and his hormone levels fall within the “acceptable” ranges.

Yes I know he is...but I doubt he is going to be caught up....unless as you said like Armstrong, once he stops being a money making machine....

I do not believe this is accurate.

I googled this quote and nothing came up, so some video or audio evidence would be good.Daniel2 wrote:Fabrice Santoro seemed to think so. He did an interview with On n'est pas couché where, without naming names, he said some players would return from a short break with "4 lungs".
Regardless, this does strike me as quite tenuous speculation. Federer came back in his mid 30s after 6 months out to win 3 5-setters in the space of 4 matches at AO.
That probably wouldn't be possible for a 35yo in the 1980s, but modern medicine has simply got better. In the same way cancer treatment, heart surgery etc. have also got better in the last 30 years. Probably plenty of legal ways for Fed 2017 to take advantage of modern medicine without resorting to breaking any rules. Same applies to Rafa
