Sad thing is today there was no fight or any resistence from Fed, just out of order play and totally lost at the net.

There it is. Rafa far superior today.

Not quite as bad ar RG08 but it was not very pretty from Fed's perspective. At least I never got too stressed out about the potential result.

Rooting for Thiem next, but if Nole wins that is ok too, as he may be a better antidote to Rafa.

Btw, Nadal hit 33 winners to Federer’s 25. Nadal played at a high level in tough conditions.

I was really hopeful Fed could take the second set at 4:4 40-0. But it all disintegrated pretty quick after that.

Easy win, more or less what I expected. I think it would have been worse against Djokovic given the conditions.

I doubt Federer will be bothered about this at all, he went into the event expecting maybe to get through week 1 and he had his fun with the match with Stan.

Hopefully the flirtation with clay is over now and he skips it in 2020, it's pointless really because other than Stan who he basically owns he'd lose to almost any top player (Thiem would kill him, Stan rescued him from Tsitsipas).

Rest up Fed and get grooved in for grass.

The conds whilst an equaliser did negate a more attacking game. I still think Federer will rue some missed key chances. If he had gone 3-0 in the 2nd, might've been a different match altogether.

Once Nadal got on the front foot, his confidence shot up. For 2 and a bit sets, he looked nervous and played tentatively.

Mostly agree. This match should disabuse Fed of any notion that he could still come and win RG. For as long as he is playing, he should focus on Wimbledon and - to a lesser extent - the USO and AO. Unlike you, I would not mind Fed entering RG (assuming he is still playing next year) but he should definitely take it easy here.

Yup I agree with that.

Fed must have really enjoyed his fortnight though, and he's said a proper good-bye to a tournament where, by any normal standards, he has had great success. It was almost worth it just for the fantastic ovation he got walking off - and and getting to the SF means he can hold his head high. Thank goodness he got one title, although it would have been great to have beaten Nadal there once.

Now for the grass. I reckon he should avoid Stuttgart this year.
