Re: Aus open prediction game: Day 8
Must have been a total mashing - Nadal v. rarely wins 3-setters in under two hours.

Rafa takes it, a good exercise I guess.

This version of Nadal looks very hard to beat. The serve is so much better than previously and he’s clearly looking to shorten the points. Bigger challenges ahead but hard to see how either Tsitsipas or Djokovic can live with him in this form.

Yeah, don't give DEC1 a heart attack now from too much hope.

It feels it’s been the case for the last few years - if Rafa wins the Australian, he suddenly becomes (in my mind) even money to at least equal Fed. Have to feel if he doesn’t win it this year, given his supreme form and Novak looking questionable, Fed should be safe.barrystar wrote:@jahu - just checked on the Aus Open website, and Collins is playing in her 6th slam - she has played in 3 USO's, and one each RG and Wimbledon last year.
@slam count - I really can't see Djoko winning another 7 from 31 years old, but I can see him picking up about 4.
Nadal is like an unpredictable rocket these days - he absolutely cannot keep slam winning standard up over a season, but if he times it right to burn fuel at an absolutely crazy rate he can over a fortnight. As each year starts he is the man to beat at RG, and the USO conditions suit him too; last year he was arguably the second-best player at Wimbledon. If he only wins one slam this year then I really think it's past him. However, it's very feasible that he scraps his way to two, and then I think that the mathematical reality of 'one more heave' would be very sustaining for him.

Collins, by the way, has played 6 slams (as Barry said) but it’s the first slam event in which she has won a match. Her previous 5 attempts all ended at R1.
