How the Hell does a guy called Tennys end up as a pro tennis player?

Re: Aus Open Day 10:
Has he maybe changed his name later in teen years after he thought he will be a tennis player? What name is this? Just looked up at names and only Tennyson comes up, maybe he shortened it:
The boy's name Tennyson \t(e)-nny-son\ is of Middle English origin, and the meaning of Tennyson is "son of Dennis". Used by 19th-century parents in homage to British Poet Layreate Alfred, Lord Tennyson.

Tomorrow is going to be tense. It’ll be hard to watch unless it’s a repeat of last years performance.

Re: Aus Open Day 10:
It will be tense. If Federer has a bad day, Berdych might win. But Fed's bad days are to a certain degree predictable. When f.i. Federer was beaten by Delpo at the USO last year, or when Berdych beat Federer at Wimbledon in 2010.
This AO i haven't those seen bad omans. So he should be alright. I hope he does it quick and clean. He'll need all the energy he has to win the final matches

Scared, if Berdy does play good and take first set, I;m afraid Fed will get annoyed and crash and shank and loose it from everyone expecting him to take this AO.

Re: Aus Open Day 10:
I liken the pressure to the USO 2014. The consensus that it's his to lose essentially. Which by all accounts it is.

Re: Aus Open Day 10:
Agree with bb - even though he has not lost to Berdych since 2013, Fed always has to play well to beat his power and consistency - anything less and he can be blasted off before he can recover his composure.
The precedent in their match-up that should give Berdych most comfort is the USO 2012, when Federer was flying at #1 off the back of a perfect win at Cincinnati without even losing serve, and carved through the 1st three rounds at USO without losing a set, got a walkover in the 4th, and lost to Berdych in the QF - apart from the obvious Fognini effect , I never really understood where that one came from.

It's very simple. If Fed is fit he wins...if he is tired he loses.

Re: Aus Open Day 10:
Berdych is no threat to Federer. He’s too stiff and easily out-manoveured. We are not in 2010 anymore and Fed isn’t going to try and out hit him. He will dominate on serve, keep Berdych off balance and will strike whenever Berdych’s level slips slightly.

Re: Aus Open Day 10:
They were saying the other day that Tennys is a tennis player from Tennessee. He is named after his grandfather who neither played tennis nor was from Tennessee.
This is his moment. He could be in a GS SF. He will never do anything remotely comparable for the rest of his career.

Emotional roller-coaster of a tennis fan - this morning:
...and a couple of hours later:

...and a couple of hours later:

Murray will go once the hip becomes terminal.
Nadal will go once he sees Slams going for good and hope of overhauling Federer vanish.
Federer will play until at least end of next season, back permitting. If he can be a participant at the business end he will carry on as long as possible, he simply prefers the tennis life to a non-tennis life. The kids are young enough and there are still aspirational objectives like 10th Wimbledon, setting Slam bar beyond reasonable possibility of capture, breaking Connors records.
So I go Murray, Nadal, Federer, Djokovic

I cannot see Berdych beating Roger. I have not seen Berdych yet this tournament but from what I have seen of Roger, he looks in fine form to me.
It will be a downer if I wake up to find out that the SF line-up is Cilic vs Edmund and Berdych vs Sandgren.

Who to root for? I have never seen Sandgren play and Chung's game is - let's face it - quite boring.

Sign of times:
http://www.tennis.com/pro-game/2018/01/tennys-sandgren-defends-tweets-again-at-australian-open/71592/
Semingly on his own accord, this Tennys player felt the need to delete his tweets just because he has right wing views, (now that he got into public attention with his unusual run in AO).
I’m sure he would not have felt the same pressure if he was a leftie or a liberal.
Not good.

Both statements were correct and reflected the matters at hand, summerblues. You saying they were wrong or that events changed quickly?

What a tough blow for Berdych.
We hear on the radio that Nadal will now 'miss' three weeks - so he'll be back at Acapulco as scheduled. Mark Woodforde on the radio thinking he should watch his schedule.

I only saw the last few games, Fed was playing ok, Berd bombing his BH.gallery play wrote:Tell me folks, what is going on? the beeb talks about grumpy, untidy and sarky Federer...Is he good or is he grinding?
Fed only got rattled when hawkeye didn’t work on 15:40, but he still managed to break.
Berd is not a dogged, competitive grinder so he’ll probably go quietly in the night, esp if Fed breaks him early innthe 2nd set.
