Re: Who is going to win the US Open 2017?
I dont think Nadal 2009 (second half) was a better player than today

Naxroy,
how do you explain Nadal never won WTF?
Please don't say it's because it's indoors and not on clay. A player of such percieved talent (by his fans great and small) can surely beat and dominate best 8 players in a year he won 3 slams, at least!

And a question for all who all think Nadal is a great tennis talent:
why is it that he can't play indoors?
What skill is he missing?

Re: Who is going to win the US Open 2017?
he never won wtf because he was not good enough in the moment, I guess.
winning depends on lots of things, of course talent, fitness, mindset, luck, and of course some players are better on certain surfaces
nadal is a great of the sport, no doubt about that, he can win in all surfaces, as he has done, but still he is not as great on hardcourts as he is on clay.
thats the kind of tennis player he is, we fans love him being the best ever on clay, and we enjoy a lot with his wins off clay, because those come less expected... but over the years he put together rather a pretty impressive CV off clay I would say, so yes, he could have well won a couple of WTF by now... but he didnt
does that mean he is not talented? dont think so
other greats havent won the grandlsam, other havent won an olimpic gold or a davis cup...
yes, wtf, paris, shagai... those are tournaments where nadal has not performed as well as in slams or the rest of masters
they have in common the time of the year, so I guess that must have something to do.

For someone who has 14 slams...and whose fans aspire to crown him GOAT?
from memory olimpic games in Beijing were played indoors.nazroy wrote:

Federer, Murray, Nole, Stan, Delpo all have Davis Cup and an olympic medal...which I don't count much as a tennis achievement mainly as Olympic tennis is played as a best of 3 sets and Davis Cup is a team achievement.
WTF is also a best of 3 now but it is the 8 best players of the year.
And indoor means PERFECT playing conditions where talent should shine.
When WTF was moved to London, surface was different, it is now a slow sandy, rough surface...and even there Nadal could not win.
It's a very big question mark over his career.

And what could that "something" be?

Altough i'm not one who thinks Nadal is a "great" tennis talent, here's my respond anyway.noleisthebest wrote:And a question for all who all think Nadal is a great tennis talent:

He's a mediocre indoor player because indoors he has less chance to bring in his main weapons: the 4 s: spin, speed, strength and stamina
The ball flies too fast and too low for him to get under the ball en inject spin
the ball flies too fast to rely on retrieving
The ball flies fast enough for decent players to hit winners (hit through Nadal)
The game goes too fast to rely on exhausting the opponant

In short, he is a one trick pony with a 1d game.gallery play wrote:Altough i'm not one who thinks Nadal is a "great" tennis talent, here's my respond anyway.noleisthebest wrote:And a question for all who all think Nadal is a great tennis talent:

Surely someone with talent can adapt to low & skidding bounce.
Thank you GP

NITB
if you want to believe that nadal has no talent and that he is a one trick poney, fine.
nadal achievements are there, and I as a fan am quite happy with what he managed.
I also enjoy watching the rest of great players I had the luck to watch since I started loving tennis back in the 80s

Sadly, he couldn't bring his best with him from set 2 on and the serve evaporated. Nadal has had the easiest draw in living memory and the easiest 4 slam draws I have ever seen, as well.
Anderson's chances are slim.
