US OPEN 2017
The thread to discuss all things USO...pre USO!
First of all who is going to play?
We know Djokovic, Sta m defending champion and Nishikori are out for the rest of the season.
But what about Murray?
Is he going to skip it? Would be most logical.
No guarantees even that Federer will take part...but let's assume he is, ''cos I've just read this:
http://sport.blic.rs/tenis/federer-moracemo-da-imamo-fizicki-spremne-trenere/yez89yp
Apologies, couldn't find it in English, but in short, Federer comments on two novelties that will be introduced this USO:
1) shot clock of 25 seconds and
2) players will be able to communicate with coaches from the stands.
In the article he is sarcastic to the bone...suggesting that soin we'll have coaches walking on the court with their player, holding their hand, tossing thr ball for them, etc.

Re: US OPEN 2017
It's funny how they want to take the rest of the season hoping it will bring the same success as Federer.
Will we really have the shot clock at the USO? That woudl be great.

True.
At least Stan has a surgery to show for.
Nole def needed a break. More mental than physical.
Nish just had to run away from the pressure.
Will be interesting to see how they come back.
I womder if ATP are going to do stg to prevent this scenario in future.

I hope shot clock is going to happen. I am a bit worried I can't find the article anywhere in English.
But would be cool to see Nadal finally get rid of his "OCD"

Re: US OPEN 2017
Well Judy Murray was speaking this week and she felt the last 2 years have taken a lot out of Andy and she was advising he rest. I still believe he will pull out of the US Open. If in some mad twist he does play, I think he will skip the rest of the season afterwards.
I disagree Ten that they are hoping for Federer esq success by taking a rest. For them I would imagine it would be some comfort to possibly be near pain free for the remainders of their careers.
Didn't Raonic withdraw from Cinncy? I would imagine he is a doubt for the US Open. Amazing to think so many are dropping like flies.

Re: US OPEN 2017
In the past those lists of injured players happened after the USO. Is the game so physical that there are more of them now? Or is it simply the fact that the top players are getting older and therefore more prone to injury?
I guess a bit of both.

It's is going to be interesting to see how Nadal copes with 2 matches in a day.....at 31. Well we know he can play 4 or 5 sets...but then playing again tomorrow?
He should start to feel it.

I can't recall a time when so many of the top 10 who are injured/shackled with niggles.
But even those left standing, I am not convinced I could make anyone a clear favourite for this title.

Kyrgios beating Rafa today means, I believe, that Fed, Rafa and Andy are all guaranteed to be #1 after the USO as long as they win the title - irrespective of what the other two will do.
Now of course, if Andy and Fed are injured, and Rafa does not find his form, none of them will be winning the USO.

Even if Rafa does find his "form" how is that any indication he will win? He's won 2 his entire career and they were before he was 30.

You'll soon tell us. If Federer winning = form good. If Federer losing = bad back. If Federer double faults = despair and anguish of cataclysmic proportions.

You really are pathetic . When I noticed Federer was impeded he had not lost a single set and was a break up v Berdych in his semi.
Would be great if you were bringing something new to this forum instead of your basic manichean vision.

If you don't like it then you should stop doing it to me. It seems you can give it but can't take it. As to what I bring here... well, it's not any worse to what anyone brings to a forum. Including you.
Also, what I said in my post is quite true. I'm sure if Fed goes out or has any issue whatsoever, you'll be far too preoccupied with his back to notice his opponent played well. I saw someone on 606v2 doing it recently with Nadal again. I call it out if it's a Nadal fan or a Fed fan.
At least I'm consistent.

I did laugh at the little exchange above. Brought some light relief to my early start.
Other news though, Raonic out of the US Open following wrist surgery (cue the tumbleweed of no-one cares )
So Djokovic, Wawrinka, Nishikori and Raonic now all out. Murray playing his cards close to his chest. Many expecting a statement to be made later (no official confirmation) and others think he will play and not say a dickiebird.

Well there some interesting comments in there. He says he feels better, but he is carrying it in rather than the injury being near healed.
Also interesting he credits the Clay break as being able to refresh him physically for his Wimbledon success.
Can't wait to see how he fares.

That means to me it killed himself playing both IW and Miami. HC is what really kills the body.

Could be. The only benefit really playing IW and Miami is the lack of sustained travel. If you take the Clay where you start in MC, then Madrid, then Rome then back to Paris. Dare I say yet again his planning was perfection especially given the outcome. God knows how disappointed he would've been not triumphing at Wimbeldon.
Montreal despite the results, was a bit of disaster having inflamed his back problem.
One can hope really for him he is lucky with the draw and scheduling come the US Open. The first week weather wise looks good. Dry and warm conditions, courts might have some zip in them. Hopefully he avoids the night schedules. 2nd week looking wet and humid. Not so good.

Sure. I'm glad he won both iw and miami at his age. That was quite impressive but I would have preferred he played 1 TMS on clay.

I still din't know how he managed to win AO, IW and Miami.
He basically spent all his freshness in those three tournaments.
I suppose the win in AO gave bim wings, and he hadn't been competing for a long time before that.
He gave us some great matches in that stretch.

Delighted to hear it. If it was a bit difficult I'd be inclined to inject (legal) pain killers and get through it. Gigantic, career defining things rest on winning this US Open.legendkillar wrote:Not heard anything about Berdy

Re: US OPEN 2017
If Nadal were to win the USO (and let's face it, with such a depleted field, anything is possible) it puts Federer back in a dog fight for GOAT supremacy.
Feds would still have the cushion of 3 slams but Rafa would have the additional confidence of another HC slam + a nearly 5 year age differential.
If neither were to win it then it ends as a great year for Fed.

The draw is out.
Fed in Nadal's half, has Kyrgios in his quarter, potentially teicky opener against Tiafoe.
Murray has a joke of a draw.
Nadal, too, but at least he has Dimi in his quarter.

Shockingly, due to nobody playing, A.Zverev is seedded 4th and has easier draw than Federer...an injured Cilic in his quarter.
Will be interesting to see where qf-ers fall, esp Shapalov (hopefully he wins his last round today)

Tiafoe is rubbish - ugliest FH since Gulbis.

Very tough draw for Federer, as tough as it could be realistically.
A potential 2nd round with the Colonel, to get another 17-0 h2h in the books.
Nadal avoided all the big hitters.

Yes, Thiem is seeded for the quarter.
Perhaps Sam Querrey might break that up.
The more I've looked at it, the more I think in the current field Federer couldn't have got much harder.

Again. Been the story of this year. Nadal has had a cake walk in every slam. At least this time he has Dimitrov... but Federer has Kyrgios so early and that's a deadly tie.
