Who Is Going To Win Wimbledon 2017?
Wimbledon 2017 Talk
Who is going to be super happy on the 16th of July?
Will Nadal be able to use his RG confidence one more time?
Will Federer shake his rust off in time?
Will Nole reset his mode with the help of Agassi?
Will Murray...I don't know what...
Is Ostapenko going to continue her magic from RG?
Is someone new....no...I'd better not ask that question...what's the point!!!?
Are there any dark horses? (ranked outside top 20) Mine... - Shapalov!
I was going to post a neutral photo of Wimbledon, but came across this, one of my favourites:

This is a very tough one to guess. Sure Fed could do it if he plays like earlier this year but for some reasons i doubt he will be fit enough to line uo those matches.
Anyway the winner is likely to be a 30+ player.

Yes, if Miami was a few weeks ago, then it would be no brainer.
But as things stand...little match play, fast surface...today's match with Zverev will give us a better idea.
Wimbledon is a chance for, as you said yesterday, talented players to play well make their mark, even if it's to knock out favourites and then lose in the next round - Stakh, Rubi, Shap...
Who can forget Rosol, Darcis, Brown, Kyrgios...
I am excited about Ostapenko. She made my RG.
Draw will be quite interesting as we have many excellent players with low ranking who are capable of R1 upset - Brown, Haas, Kokkinakis...

Most biased poll ever.
Tick Djokovic nitb, dont be a traitor, izdajice
Don't have a favorite for now, maybe after first week of W, currently all top 10 suck on grass.

Re: Wimbledon 2017 Talk
As much as I would love to see a Federer victory, I get the nagging sense like in previous campaigns 14,15 and 16 that he will fall short near finish.
Murray who knows after that pathetic performance at Queens. I worry on the strength of that performance if he could even land a ball in court!
Djokovic surely can't do worst than last year and Nadal who knows!
Zverev out of the young brigade looks the more promising on this surface, but other than that. No clue who will be victorious come July 16.

Re: Wimbledon 2017 Talk
What concerns me here is that I have not known a player being successful at SW19 by skipping the FO and concentrating on grass.
Lendl skipped the FO a couple of times to prepare better for grass.....but failed. I think some others have tried but also failed.
It's like putting all your eggs in the same basket, it increases the pressure.
But hopefully Federer can kill this curse like he killed many others.

Re: Wimbledon 2017 Talk
How can you compare Federer and Lendl!!!
As far as I can see, he is healthy, fresh and shook the rust off in Halle.
He'll only get better in Wimbledon as he "oils" that footwork to perfection.
And that's it!
He's done all he could. The rest is in God's hands.

Federer has played 4 finals and won all four in 2017. In all years he won his first 4 finals he won Wimbledon (2004/2005/2012)

Andy Murray has pulled out of a Wimbledon warm-up match with a sore hip.
The world No 1 was scheduled to play Lucas Pouille in the Aspall Classic at the Hurlingham Club to get some more practice.

PR crap to boost Djoko a little, Djoko still holds the cash for Becker for all his time with Djoko. Becker wanted no money trail, so its sitting nicely in Djoko acc and he gives Cash to Becker like a little puppy. Couple of tax evaders having fun.
Djoko still trying to use every bit of attention he can to be loved, from this, to love, kisses, hearts etc, sad.

Yes...
But "Djoko" has changed. And I actually like the change, he has softened, not sure how that is going to translate into his tennis and competing.
I would like him to win a few more slams and overtake Nadal as he is better than him.
And I am curious t see how he goes with Agassi.
I just hope he ditches Buddhism. That is a disaster.
Go Nole!

Re: Wimbledon 2017 Talk
Nadal? Not very likely, is it? Rank 100s four years in a row. This isn't clay.
Federer is favourite. Depends on who turns up. If Djokovic comes playing near his best, he'll have a good shot, but that doesn't look likely. Zverev clearly found the match up with Fed's variety an enormous task - plus he was nervous against him. I wouldn't put much hope on him beating Federer on grass yet, but he should be great against everyone else. Had a good shot if he doesn't meet Fed. Kyrgios, for me, is second favourite - but that depends on his fitness. Murray is an outside chance. He'll be playing as well as he can at the moment, because he will have crowd support and is defending 2000.
Can't see anyone else winning it.
Federer 35%
Kyrgios 25%
Zverev 20%
Murray 15%
Djokovic 5%
That's how I'd put it. Those are just my own relative "how it feels to me" scores. Not a science.
Note. I had a £10 bet on Kyrgios (I think was 10) - and 5 on Zverev to win it all. So that means Fed will win it.

Apart from Fed on your list ( and not conviced he is at his best for now), can't see anyone there going to SF, Andy hip probs, Zverev not so good on grass, Korgi hot/cold, unless Agassi wakes up Djoko.
Nadal probably up to SF.

Not so good on grass? Two years running Halle finalist? Has also beaten Fed there. Where do you get Nadal from? He's also just been wiped out by Berdych, btw. He's done nothing on grass for years and may even pull out!

I think Nadal will be tough to beat...and even tougher if he reaches the second week.
I actually woudl not underestimate him. He played well in Australia and Australia was fast..ish.

I'd probably say:
Federer 35%
Nadal 25%
Murray 15%
Djokovic 10%
Kyrgios 5%
Zverev 5%
Other 5%
I don't think we can write Rafa off. The level he was at during RG was miles above anything he has shown there since probably 2010. Whilst he won't be as confident on the grass, if he can get into the tournament, he will be very difficult to stop.

I'm not basing Nadals RG as a good form to use in W, his RG path to Final was a joke and if Fed played RG, I bet he would go to Final too.
As Tenez said, his AO form was pretty good, he mad the match closed, and the clay massacre he did this year is a good indicator that at least his body can hold, and he does not mind 5 setters.

We Serbs are very patriotic, that's all it is.
Not because we are "poor" (which I disagree with, went there in May, people now have better life standard than here although everyone is moaning and thinks it's better here) but because we are a very old nation/people, not one of these artificially manufactured ones.
I suppose, you being a mix can't understand that.

I'm beginning tomdevelop a mini feel for this Wimbledon.
I think we are going to be nicely surprised.
Nobidy mentuoned Cilic and Lopez?
They have both been in good form.
And there are going to be many upsets.
The tour has really condensed in quality now.
Grass will be a good leveller for experience and will give youngsters a small advantage compared to other slams.

You're grossly underestimating the difference between grass and clay, and the Aussie Open he had a very easy draw up to the final. He hasn't done anything on grass for well over 4 years. He's just been totalled by Berdych in a friendly. You're giving him way too much respect based on his form 10 years ago. Despite high betting on Nadal, he's still only managed 4-1 at the bookies.

Re: Wimbledon 2017 Talk
So how come it won it twice? You tend to apply the "repetitive" logique such as he won last time so he will win this time...and vice versa......but tennis doesn't always work like that. The first rounds will be tough I agree....but after that he will be a great danger. When the courts slow down, players get tired as we reach the business end of the tournament....if he is still there....he will be as good a contender as any top guy.Daniel wrote:You're grossly underestimating the difference between grass and clay, and the Aussie Open he had a very easy draw up to the final. Are you having some sort of comprehension problem again? Trends do actually matter. The fact he's just been beaten by Berdych should tell you where his game is at. Are you really that daft that you'd consider someone who has performed poorly on grass the last 4 years as having a good shot?
The reason why is that he;s declined. His shot timing, movement, and other fine tuning is not as sharp as it once was. And that few % is enough. Plus his confidence on grass is rock bottom. You don't lose to rank 100s four years running if you are playing as good as you once were. Sorry. Then you'll bring up RG which is easily explained by the fact there is no decent clay courter around at the moment - and Nadal is still good enough and fit enough to deal with the surface. Not so on grass.
Nadal's chances are slim. Very slim. You are just basing his chances off fucking clay again. have you seen his record in slams off clay the last 5 years?
So how come it won it twice?
Errrr... when did he win it again? Was it last year? I forget.
