Rio Olympics 2016
Olympic Games have become a bit like concerts of Julio Iglesias: people go there to catch moments of the golden dream gone by, and poor Julio can't say no...he is still performing his Latino Lothario best.
And it will probably go on and on and on....
Well, I have never been to his concert but there is something about the guy....young or old...he's got the moves!
Let the games begin!

I have just read that the Ameicans are not staying in the village but on some 6* luxury cruiser (£10K pw per tourist)...it looks more like a warship!

looks like a luxury cruse liner to me
i guess thats written in serbian? so i cant tell why they decided not to stay in the official olympic village digs?
is it because of the same reasons why the australians arent staying there?

Re: Rio Olympics 2016
I didn't read the article, just saw the photos and headline...
Another article confirming the seeds, and a surprise news that Stan has pulled out citing back injury:
http://sport.blic.rs/tenis/tenis-na-igrama-u-riju-nole-prvi-nosilac-vavrinka-odustao/2ybql3l
I don't read ATP site any more, it's a total pain after the "revamp".
Serbian websites usually bring the news quicker than the BBC.

OK, just read the article...it's only the US basketball tam that's staying on the ship.
Apparently, it's their tradition since '92.
The reason: NBA stars are so popular, no security the organisers give them is good enough...

He looks as big and as strong as ever,
And hitting the ball (relatively low over the net - for his standards!) from 2m behind the baseline in practice.
Maybe that's his compromise.

Re: Rio Olympics 2016
i agree NITB,he doesnt look like a player who has just returned from an injury that had him out for 2 majors in that video
i still wouldnt be surprised if he doesnt play a single match
should murray be the flag bearer for britain? the decision is going to be made today
is it fair that lizzie armistead wins anti-doping rule appeal over 3 missed tests?
missing 3 drugs tests is a major red flag to me,even missing 1 should be considered a red flag
i think that if an athlete has nothing to hide then they would be more then will to cooperate when it come to being tested,in fact go out of their way to be tested to prove that they are competing clean

The Lizzie Armitstead case is beyond a joke.
Lot of work going on behind the scenes to stop that ban.

I've seen him practice in real life, he always practices like that, hits the ball flatter and harder than he ever would during a match.noleisthebest wrote:luvsports! wrote:"Rafael Nadal confirms he will play singles, men's doubles AND mixed doubles in Rio."

Re: Rio Olympics 2016
I don't know who Lizzie A. is, but I know Troicki was banned for a year for taking his test a day after it was originally scheduled (with doctor's/tester's permission).
As for Nadal looking fit etc...I still think he may have been injured, it was wrist tendonitis, so bad they thought the tendon may snap.
He is known for using stem cell treatment, so he may have done that to repair the tendon.
I don't know how long that treatment takes and how it works, but it did seem to fix his knee (and Tipsarevic's heel).
I am glad Federer is leaving his knee to heal naturally by taking 6 months off...

Yeah true, I remember when Nadal also took around 6 months off due to knee problems everyone on this site was similarly sympathetic and glad he was leaving his knee to heal naturally.noleisthebest wrote:

The point was, Nadal was not leaving it to heal naturally...he himself said he used stem-cell treatment...for tendonitis!DONALD TRUMP wrote:Yeah true, I remember when Nadal also took around 6 months off due to knee problems everyone on this site was similarly sympathetic and glad he was leaving his knee to heal naturally.noleisthebest wrote:

Federer suffered a torn ligament which is a far more serious injury from which I doubt he'll ever be able to come back fully fit.
Also, tennis fans will be less sympathetic towards a player who brought the injury to himself with his own style of play..to quote Safin..."runnig like a rabbit"...and to add myself: leaning heavily on the knee to draw stability and strength in order to lead heavy spin over and over again...
And let's not forget that Federer is 35....how old was Nadal when an injury prevented him from playing in a slam?

The olympics have not even started and I am already sick of them and their (another!) useless website.
There is no draw. Just an endless list of 1st round matches.
I give up.
Why are we putting up with idiots everywhere?

well that link says that there has been a date set in 2017 so it does look like they are going ahead
should be interesting once the case gets going
i think that its actually a good thing cause it will most likely backfire like it did for lance armstrong
the truth always has a way of having the last laugh
does anyone know when the olympic opening ceremony is?
does it start tomorrow?

The Olympics is great for track and field, the pinnacle.
For everything else it's useless. Massive kudos to the golfers.

Re: Rio Olympics 2016
The Olympics in such an extent is a currently outdated and inappropriate project and when organized in Brazil then there are more risks and not just down to Zika. Therefore we should appreciate tennis players who participate in it, as they belong to the most richest sportsmen in the world and they just do for their nations and not for their personal welfare. Hopefully the Games will go quietly without any bad accidents and harm.

its human nature to be competitive and strive to be the best you can be thats why so many people are passionate about sport and why manipulating and abusing it in such a manner can achieve political agenda
for all the controversy and bad publicity the brazilians should be very very proud of the spectacular opening ceremony
i thought it was brilliant
im especially impressed by the new refugee olympic team,i think thats a brilliant idea and what the olympics are all about

I haven't seen the ceremony but am happy it went well.
I heard it celebrated life and nature compared to London '12 which focused on money and horror for the best part.
Also, there was a Girl from Ipanema.

lets put it this way,it was one hell of a lot better then wheeling paul mccartney out of the old age home so that he can murder "hey jude" again
probably the "greenest" opening ceremony with a strong message that we should look after the planet better
i especially loved the idea that every athlete was given a seed to plant in some soil which is going to create a new forrest
its a shame that these olympics games is rocked by another doping/bribery scandal

Me, too.
We have a 90+ yo in our church who had spent most of his life in Brasil as his parents were missionaries.
His hands are shaking a lot from an age related disease but he produces beautiful aquarelles with them...and works on a website that takes Bible to jungle tribes in remote areas.
When he talks about Brasil his eyes light up. He is too old to travel there now and is dying here feeling like a banana tree in Siberia.
There is a huge revival of Christianity happening in Brasil, so I am not surprised they look to be starting a new tide.
Talking of the Olympic games, I think Nole is playing Delpo after midnight and Troicki - Murray about 6-7 pm.
I've no idea where and if I am going to watch it...websites are a total chaos.

I am yet to go on a holiday but last night as I walked back home tired from pacing central London with my student I saw a crescent moon on the pale blue evening sky.
It was unusally big and totally melted me.
I can't explain it ...that feeling of excitement when I see it.
We are so blessed with the sky.
Who needs TV!

A bit off-topic, but during the sermon today, the minister mentioned Pistorius!
...who has apparently been taken to hospital with "wrist injuries".
Used as an illustration for conscience. How everyone knows inherently what is right and what is wrong.
Regardless of what they may say.

Re: Rio Olympics 2016
so the russian para olympic team is banned from the rio olympics unless the russian team wins its appeal within 21 days
the IPC suspends the russian paralympic committee with immediate effect
seems a bit unfair that the individual sports dont have a say like they did for the olympics
i personally think that its far less likely that the para olympians would be doping on the same level as the olympics russian team
@ NITB why wasnt novak djokovic the flag bearer for serbia?
cant remember if he was at london or not?

they claim it wasnt serious and that he didnt try to commit suicide
must be painful to watch the olympics go ahead without him when he was the star of the last one
amazing how much can change in that time, bet he never thought that he would watch the rio olympic opening ceremony from a prison cell for manslaughter
i still dont know what to make of it all,i was convinced that he was 100% guilty or murder in the 1st degree but after seeing that documentary of him he made a pretty credible case for it being an accident of gross negligence
there were a lot of inconsistencies throughout the trail that wasnt reported properly or correctly by the media

The root cause if so much of this nonsense is nationalism.
It's simple; have the Worlds greatest athletes compete against each other for personal glory, and dump all the flags, nationalities, medal tables, etc.

Yes, but in that case you lose the National support, i.e you become a selfish sportsman, and we all now most sportsman rely on patriotism as a fan base.
In any case, great to see Djoko crushed, and even better to see Delpo back in form, hope it lasts a few years now.

djokovic losing in the first round?
didnt see that match but the score says he was broken twice in the second set
did del potro really beat him or did djokovic tank the match to give himself a better chance at the u.s open?
i can imagine everyone over on THASP must be saying that he was probably playing "clean"
i would think that having won everything except gold at the olympics, that he would have given it his best shot...
