Cheers T Big Grin
Would players have had more success if they stuck with DHBH then?

Like Sampras? or Lendl etc?

lendl maybe, Pete I don't think so. But as you say, it's very much down to bigger tennis balls and new strings. A faster pace makes DHBH a liability.

Congrats, well done.

What about the OHBH on clay? There are still some great ones like: Wawrinka, Almagro and soon Thiem. It might have a future there with its superior potential for power and spin.

Hi LS,

finally got down to reading your article.
Well done for having it published in SI and spreading the awareness. You did a good job there.

No stopping here, I'm afraid, though! You have to keep pressing the flesh. This could be your niche.
DARE TO DREAM!!!!!!!

You will always have our support for this noble cause. smiley

I somehow feel SBH will not die. Was really nicely surprised by seeing this young Russian player (Gasparyan) with a SBH the other day.

I liked that person's comment about coaches not having a clue how to teach it as a part of the problem. That is so true.

Not only can they not teach it, they also despise (but secretly admire) it and actually genuinely think it's only a "pretty'" shot...

Of the 4 coaches in my club only the head coach plays with a SBH (in his 60s I think), the young ones (one of them even had a decent ATP ranking) do not have a clue.
It's not a surprise we have so many bland players in UK and elsewhere.

Simply no flair at all. And what's tennis with no flair?
Nothing.

You have to put make-up on it to present it as "watchable" - it's no coincidence commentators talk so much these days.
When you look at old clips, they barely said anything -  tennis did all the talking.

Finally, your writing was good & functional but still needs post editing and trimming.
NITB reccomends reading poetry. Not English,  but foreign (translated), to get "the flow" and gust of expression.

All in all, keep going! diva

Thanks nitb, great post.

Don't worry, I know I have a long way to go and can improve.
They edited my fawning, loquacious and kooky stuff a bit.

For instance:
"Hopefully in years to come, there won’t be an exhibit on wonderful past innovations of tennis, comprising the all but forgotten serve and volley.
And hopefully next to that display, there won’t be a museum curator enthusiastically explaining to a group of eager onlookers, how the once magnificent but fragile single-handed backhand died with it.
I hope!"
