That's ridiculous. Federer didn't really do anything wrong (apart from that missed backhand). Novak just got to a ball he was never meant to get it.
Federer has gone from winning set 3 to probably losing it,.

I was right. He loses his serve due to exhaustion.Tenez wrote:fed is tired. That's it. Fresh he woudl have that game.....but Djoko tires too.
Covering twice as many miles as in his other 3 setters. In effect Fed had played a 6 setter v Stan today. ....and the 3rd set is not over!

There have been occasions before even when Fed was younger when he had a poor BP conversion ratio in Slam finals.FedererKing wrote:Kim Jong-Un wrote:Great play under pressure from Djokovic.

he wouldn't have lost this match. He's playing poorly overall and still managed to take a set and almost 2.

He played great in sets 2 and 3 imo; but agree tennis is a game of margins and a small difference in play can have a major difference in scoreline.FedererKing wrote:Kim Jong-Un wrote:There have been occasions before even when Fed was younger when he had a poor BP conversion ratio in Slam finals.FedererKing wrote:Kim Jong-Un wrote:Great play under pressure from Djokovic.

I almost wish Wawrinka would have gotten though. I reckon the backhand would have proved crucial and he'd have wasted Djokovic. Ironically, that would have given him the chance of a Career Slam.... from nowhere.

I mean can you imagine the Federer of yesteryear missing that? Like that?
It';s no good that he can pull off the odd miracle shot... he can't string these forehands and backhands together anymore. He has one great shot followed by a howler; one great service game followed by a howler.

I also think Federer tries to do too much. I don't think he HAS to play all the time to the lines. OK now he probably does because he's getting knackered... but first set he was trying too hard. And on break points you do not need to be always trying to hit winners. He hd Novak under the cosh. Nadal keeps the pressure on, that's one of his strengths. He isn't trying too much all the time.

Re: USO 2015: The Finale
See what I mean? he didn't NEED to do that on break point. WHY? Djokovic was under all kinds of pressure there and federer just wasted it with a long forehand.

Sorry, Djokovic, you are lucky you're playing this Federer. Good career, but the numbers will never match Federer.
Feel sad for Fed, but you know what... he hasn't deserved it by coming into the 1st set so timid and being so silly on break points.

Re: USO 2015: The Finale
He may not lift the trophy, but as far as I'm concerned, fed won this match, he was the one playing tennis.
Made a lot of opportunities.
Some of those missed BPs were down to tiredness, but some were inexplicable. Simply wasn't meant to be.
He threw the match away.
I even think he would've won it had it gone to five sets.
Good night.

Re: USO 2015: The Finale
I think Federer played with most variety... He played the harder shots. Novak is a defender, after all/. He hasnt got anywhere near the talent Fed does and, like Nadal and Murray, he'll be nowhere at 34. But Novak had the serve and the consistency. Federer blew WAY too many break points, went too passive at crucial moments, and was a wimp in Set 1. Novak also had to contend with the harshest crowd of all time.
The better man won, but the game was on Fed's racquet. Federer was the one who could win or lose. And he lost.

It looks great now that he could go on and win many more but it can change very quickly. When Fed won the Aussie open in '10 I don't think anyone thought he wold go 2 and a half years before winning again.
When McEnroe won the US Open in 84 I don't think anyone would have thought he would never win a slam again.
Rafa in 13 looked like he would stampede past Federers record too
This guy has a brain.

Re: USO 2015: The Finale
At 34 Federer can't match the speed and power of much younger Djokovic. He is slow to reach many balls and Djokoivc can move him side to side. Fed often ends up doing more running than Djokovic.
Fed played a great 3rd set, but just he couldn't break the 8th game despite having many good chances. Some of them blown away with awful errors. Others saved by Djokovic.
But I'm still not sure Fed could have served out for the set to go 2-1.
With age Fed may get some variety on shots, some more net skills. But no young legs is a big setback, something Fed just can't deal with in bo5. At max he can win 2 sets, 3 out of 5 is almost impossible against Djokovic for Fed. Djokovic is just too fast and too strong.
Fed's BH is quite weaker now. Though it was much better than it was in Wimby-15 final. Still he can't keep the rallies off that wing.
Good result for a 34 year old.
Djokovic's Dominance is quite boring.

4 of 24 break points is not good in my view... it's a disaster. Federer had every chance, and he didn't turn up. He definitely could have won this. He blew the 3rd set massively.

Fed wasn't very comfortable on his own serves. So even if he had taken some of those breaks, I;m not sure he would have held on the next and taken the set.
Fed is slower on his feet, he certainly is. Djokovic is too quick for him.

Re: USO 2015: The Finale
Djokovic is too quick for everybody. It's as simple as that.
besides the BPs stats, fed won 145pts Djoko 147....so there was very little in it.
Fed started too aggressive without executing too well..and that put pressure on the rest of the match.
But playing someone who brings everything back is mentally and physically so draining.
On the bright side, I think Fed proved he would hammered anybody today, even more so as he would have been more relaxed.
He simply just needs someone else to take Djoko out like in the past he needed someone to take Rafa out.
Djoko is so quick on the court, Its just absurd.

That's not a given.. every match is different and so is every opponent. Djokoivc may struggle to put away many, but when facing Fed he can do whatever he wants. Fed can't hurt him with anything. All of Fed's weapons are neutralized by Djokovic's speed, agility and power+control of the DHBH.Tenez wrote:

Too big an ask. Chances are he himself may get out before the finals.
He is definitely is #2 player. But the gap between #1 and #2 is huge. The atp points are not lying.
16K for Djokovic?

Re: USO 2015: The Finale
For me, this loss is less painful than Wimbldon.
Fed could have won, even in 5.
The sad thing is he is not getting any younger.
On a different note, the crowd was vulgar.
Once Nole's energy level dropped - the match looked completely different.
That bread and butter, sitter inside out forehand miss from Fed on the set point for the 2nd set was a turning point.
But as I said, it was not meant to be and Fed should not beat himself about it.
It was literally not meant to be.
Not meant to be.

Re: USO 2015: The Finale
That's not a very good assessment of yesterday match, I m afraid. As mentioned 2 points between them out of 300 and the BP opportunities were of plenty. With a slightly better execution Fed could have won that in 3 or 4 sets. I don't know anybody who could have got that close of Djoko yesterday. Certainly not Stan, Nadal or Murray. USO is not FO.raiders_of_the_lost_ark wrote:That's not a given.. every match is different and so is every opponent. Yes but I expected that. Djoko certainly arrived very fit having rested since Tuesday roughly (As Djoko's semi was nothing more than a training session). Considering how close the match was yesterday it certainly helped tipped the balance. I doubt Djoko would have had that form in that first set had he played a gruelling match on Friday.noleisthebest wrote:Once Nole's energy level dropped - the match looked completely different.

I have never seen him so physical before, the continuous heavy ball thumping. It was a clear tactic to win the first set and tire Federer.
I am amazed Fed survived it and kept fighting. Just annoyed he missed some of those sitters. That is very unlike him.
