So far this game I don't think Fed's had ONE 1st serve in.

Re: USO 2015: The Finale
All that was caused by Federer's 1st serve. It must be obvious by now that this is causing him huge problem sin big games now?
I don't think it's injury or tiredness. I think it's just plain nervousness.

What a stupid effort from Djoko to get to all balls.

That's a huge slice of luck for Federer.... Djok really pummeled himself there.

First serve back there. He really has to keep up that tempo. Djok putting a brave face on it but I bet that is not a nice thing to be feeling.

Djokovic's 1st serve has been the decider too many times. Just once we need his level to drop!

ok that's it. There is no chance Fed can win this one.

I'm afraid looking at how he's turned up - no. He's turned up exactly like he did at Wimbledon. A bag of nerves. Backhand is back to usual and Djok is peppering it when he gets the chance (which is a lot because Federer's 1st serve is crap again).

What's annoying to me is that this isn't the same Federer as against Wawrinka. It's the one that's full of nerves, making tons of mistakes, especially on serve.

Sorry Federer.... but if you think you're winning this with 50% 1st serves in... think again!

Lovely first 5 games.
Then he chokes the rest of the set.

I hate to say it... but yes. He is actually choking. It's simply because of nerves. This is something he never used to do, and I think it's the same with all players - the more they lose, the more doubts creep in, the more mistakes they make.

You really don't pay attention to the opposition. Never have, never will.FedererKing wrote:What's annoying to me is that this isn't the same Federer as against Wawrinka. It's the one that's full of nerves, making tons of mistakes, especially on serve.

I don't know. I've never seen DJoko cover the court this well and bringing the ball back with such purpose.

^
He's been doing it since 2010.. pressure gets the better of him in the finals. He isn't himself if this was 2009 he'd have gotten this set

Are you telling me that Djokovic can somehow make Federer miss his 1st serve 50% of the time? I'd love to hear your theory on that.

Re: USO 2015: The Finale
That's the point... Federer never used to do this. His serve was rock solid EVERY match of a Slam 2004-07. He hardly ever had a crap service game. Already today, 50% 1st serves in. That's just not how Federer used to be.

Re: USO 2015: The Finale
Djokovic is being helped here that Federer KNOWS his time to add a slam is running out and it makes him more pressured. Djokovic makes him nervous like Nadal in finals did.

Re: USO 2015: The Finale
Just look at the winning set point. fed plays a ridiculous beautiful risky return cross court, Djoko gets it back. Fed sends him on the other corner and Djoko is there with time to spare.
yes Fed's first serve % is low but even when Fed pulls a 1st serve look at how it is returned.

Re: USO 2015: The Finale
We have two camps here at OTF.
1) Federer in the past would have beaten anyone, anywhere, anytime.
2) The opposition can improve a lot and beat the best.
I like one more than the other but it's not realistic.

His whole game hasn't turned up and it's nothing to do with how Djok is playing - it's because he is choking.

Well, you'll be hard pressed to find me a Federer of 2004-07 that had a 1st serve % of 50 in set 1 of a Slam, esp a final.

Overall if you take into account movement it's clear Federer is not as good now as he was in 2004-2007.
Before on his backhand side he had the pace to be able to turn onto his forehand and dictate, now he has to stick to the backhand.

Well, at least that's something we can now have some common ground over. The same has happened to Nadal, and all you'll hear from around the forums is how Nadal was crap and the players are now better. As if he isn't in rapid decline.

It's very simple. Because Djoko moves so quickly, he has time to decide where to send teh ball and therefore dictates teh rally (helped by his DHBH too). Which means federer has to go for broke while unbalanced.

Yes, but did you see now hard he is striking the ball, Federer is facing Nadal on both wings now.Tenez wrote:It's very simple. I think even Becker is feeling sorry for Fed deep down.
