Who will be making up the top 10 in 2018?
In 2013 L'equippe posted an article predicting their top 10 in 5 years time.
They had it as:
1) 27 yo Dimi (at the time not a bad shout) (2) 29 yo Paire :P (3) 31 yo Murray (4) 27yo Raonic (5) 31yo Nole (6) 28yo Nishi (7) 26yo Tomic (8)
30 yo Gulbis (9) 27yo Janowicz (10) 26yo Jack Sock.
Now it is over to you OTF.
Who will be at the game's summit?

in 2018,
Guaranteed: Murray out of the top 10, Djoko out of the top 5. Nadal out of the top 20 if not out of competition. Federer retired.
Top 5 pretenders: Kokki, Thiem, Vesely, Rublev, Cilic, Nishi, Raonic
Top10, Djoko (not guranteed), many of those who are 22-24 now......but Dimi outside.
What is absolutely key is how focused and professional they need to be...in that respect I do not see Dimi there.

I put Kyrgios and Coric in my top 5.

Goffin actually should get better and better! He will crush Coric. Kyrios could certainly be a top 5 but he will mess around cause I don't think he will ever have the professionalism required to get the very top.

Not so sure.
I can't see him getting much higher than around 10.

He certainly will have to ride a confidence wave.....and as I am watching the rest of the 3rd set....he certainly mentally collapsed. ...but his game needs to be so razor sharp that it is not so surprising.luvsports! wrote:Not so sure.

A win today would have certainly helped that progress.

I am sorry but I don't have a clue who's going to be at the top in 2018.
I hope Rubi.

Don't apologise. We ain't all psychic .
It was odd with Goffin.
He was playing brilliant.
Hit 8 winners in 3 games to go 3-0 up.
Then like a light switch he just imploded.
Djoko went into not missing mode and Goffin couldn't do anything byut miss.

So it's Goff's fault...shame.
I watched him play Nole jn Chatrier in 2013. My first time there.
Even then he looked better and smoother than Nole.
But Nole has this way of wristing the ball deep at your shoe-laces consistently.
It must be very uncomfortable to play against someone like that.

It won't be Djokovic and Murray at 1 and 2, like those ridiculous planks on 606v2 seem to think. Dear god. Federer will be retired. Nadal too most likely (can already see how much he can't handle losing). I am betting Kyrgios is 1 or 2, if he hasn't been banned.

Re: Who will be making up the top 10 in 2018?
This question has been very difficult to answer. There hasn't been any young top-10 or even top-20 player for the last 2-3 years. Djokovic during Fed-Nadal era of 2004-2010 was in top-5 consistently and was already winning odd masters and reaching deep into most tournaments. So was Murray.
And they have kind of succeed Fed and Nadal as expected. But there is not a single good player apart from Delpo who could challenge the top-rankers in the last 2-3 years. This makes the prediction for top-5 in the next 2 years extremely difficult.
Frankly it would become quite open and no one would stay as #1 for a long stretch. Top-10 would be quite volatile, something what was pre-Fed era.
#1: Dominc Thiem
#2: Nishikori ( unless he burns out like Delpo)
#3: Nick Kyg
#4: Goffin
#5: Paire

I think court conds will define who will be the top players. In 3 years time, a lot of things can change.
