Rafa upped his game and Berd was a bit passive.

Bird is just unforgivably static, he needs to lighten those feet somehow, make them dance on the base-line, not get caught flat-footed.

Berdych is making Nadal look better than he is...playing safe shots, really pathetic!
Let's hope Nishi does not tire too much tonight, he'll clean the floor with Nadal tomorrow.

IT was more a general statement for the everyone to hear, but I think more directed at the umpire.
Lots of bad calls on both players shots. Kyr hit a serve that was literly 6 inches long. Fed said he didn't know which spot it was and the umpire came down and said "this is it, this is it" and said it was in. Replay on Tv showed it way long and the comms were surprised the umpire was that off of which spot it was. I'm pretty sure they showed the replay on the screens as Fed kind of looked up at something.. Then Kyr hit an ace so it was a big point in the tiebreak.
Fed walks over and grabs his water and says it looking at the umpire. He said in his swiss/german portion of the presser that it was an expression his father used a lot :-)

Re: ATP Masters 1000: MADRID
Nadal doesn't look that great to me. His fans are getting excited again, but Dimi who couldn't get through the Istanbul field and Berdych who has beaten Nadal one time in a bunch of matches and didn't even play that well are hardly tests. Goes to show you what a weak clay field Nadal has to face in most tournies.. Nadal is still short a lot, late on the backhand. Nole will eat him up, and Nishi can too.
Kind of funny- Fed literly gets the same exact draw in Rome as he did here! Nadal gets basically the same cupcake draw as well. They sure are keeping him away from Nishi and Nole and anyone else that matches up well against him.

That's mean from Fed...he is usually cool with the empires, especially this one. Oh well....heat of the moment.truffin1 wrote:Tenez wrote:I think it was targeted at Kyr as he really went mad at one stage.

Murray is playing well too. I think whoever wins this one...should win tomorrow...though they might be tired.
Murray on clay is becoming a force as I expected.

Great rallies by those 2....much better than the 2010-2013 tennis.....I hope everybody can see that.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: MADRID
You can see that Murray is playing his super best aggressive tennis and is so uncomfortable...it's a matter of time before his focus drops, with it his 1st serve...and then Nishi is going to make him look his "normal" "old" grumpy self....

Murray mixing "airy" tennis with some aggressive shots. I quite like his game when he plays like that.

yes it is an aggressive tennis. He knows he simply can't push the ball back v Nishi. He does the same when he plays Federer.noleisthebest wrote:Tenez wrote:Murray mixing "airy" tennis with some aggressive shots. I quite like his game when he plays like that.

Nishikori just oozes class... but tbh this year I've been disappointed with him so far.
Too inconsistent, and not delivering when it matters. Can he buck the trend here ?

The Nishikori forehand is really one of my favourite shots on tour to watch, love the technique of it.

It's going to be tough for Nishi to loosen up and win this ...he'll need a bit of luck and Murray's 1st serve to stop.

Nishi can actually generate more pace than Murray and faster racket head acceleration. But he's much more prone to mistakes and off days.

Quite impressive from Andy. Nishi was not in top form but was not absolutely horrible either and Andy managed to win quite easily in the end.
At least it was not a very long match.
Andy for tomorrow.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: MADRID
Disappointing from Nishi as he started well but quickly lost a step and confidence with it.
But Murray played really well and I do fancy his chances tomorrow. He might even win more convincingly that Djoko but my only concern is his stamina!

Murray did to Nishi what most attacking players often do to Murray's 2nd serve. Though Murray's first serve is well above Nishi's first.summerblues wrote:Quite impressive from Andy. Nishi was not in top form but was not absolutely horrible either and Andy managed to win quite easily in the end.

Andy for tomorrow.
Murray had his plan clear. Attack Nishikori's Serves including the 1st serves right from the start of play.. Nishi know his serving is his weakness and with Murray attacking it and succeeding... he started to get nervous every time he was serving.
So good play by Murray. Nishi needs to get plan-B.

I missed the first set as I got the time of the match start wrong but from what I saw in the second set, I could not agree more. Andy was so aggressive on return. Let's see what he does today.raiders_of_the_lost_ark wrote: Murray did to Nishi what most attacking players often do to Murray's 2nd serve. Though Murray's first serve is well above Nishi's first.
