Re: ATP 1000: Miami
These grunting are really unfair. The worse cases are Shara and Aza, their howling should have been banned. They break timing and also disable opponents hearing of the ball bouncing from strings. Martina Navratilova spoke about it many times.Tenez wrote:noleisthebest wrote:I hate Murray's c'mon-ing opponents' UEs, disgusting!
Yes....not nice.....and his long grunt well after hitting the shot to break his opponent's timing.
All the winning ugly tricks from Brad.

How do you know Lendl's nervous? After Murray' DFs, he drinks water out of an empty bottle

Dimi
Well, that was one very good and promising show from him. Murray won the first set on experience, and you never know how the 2nd would've gone had Dimitrov won the 1st.

Yes it's not too difficult to imagine how those guys will reach new levels in 2 years time.

Re: ATP 1000: Miami
Exactly, he needs to work hard and have a coach with a bit stronger hand above him. Then it is questionable, if his body can cope with a higher load of practise and his stamina can be improved enough for GS. He reminds me Simon's body and therefore I have doubts that his body plus SHBH are too fragile for heavy matches. But he is definitely going up on ranking.noleisthebest wrote:Dimi is still young and very passionate. Not hardened, soulless pro like Murray.
I like young players when they are in this phase, still full of enthusiasm and playing their game, no matter what, same as Paire.
He seems keen to work hard, so that's a good sign. Also great hope that a young an upcoming player is playing SBH, I know what you mean with him having Fed in the back of his mind, who doesn't

This Barry Cowan on Sky is talking lots of sense.

Yes, very sensible, breath of fresh air, I like this post match commentary and analysis, worth fishing out for a stream with Sky, even having to endure all those pop-up ads , commercials, gambling websites etc.... (this is only the 2nd time Ive watched a match on a Sky stream)
The thing is, he is not saying anything new, just not being irritating like all others.

Those courts are so slow. It really doesn;t help guys like Dimi and Tsonga but retrievers like Nieminen, Murray and Djoko are thriving.

well, they are a lot better than IW, that's for sure. Nieminen is amazing for his age fitness wise, I only realised quite recently that he is 31.
Now that I've seen Nieminen pass Tsonga at the net, that trapeze idea of a court shape from you sounds quite interesting!

I am convinced that Djoko likes faster hc surface as well. He looked really bored by slow balls from Davverman yesterday.Tenez wrote:Those courts are so slow. It really doesn;t help guys like Dimi and Tsonga but retrievers like Nieminen, Murray and Djoko are thriving.

Yes, he likes nothing better than fast rallies from the base-line, best one ever from memory was the first set against Fed at AO 2011:

Yes Djoko, like Hewitt and Murray can also like the faster paces essentially cause they blocked/push shots get pacier too and generate more UEs from their opponents.

I was impressed how much time he had on balls yesterday even though his opponent balls were really slow. Nevertheless it was a good practise before next match with Haas. That can be interisting.

That's true, however, I'd like to believe that Novak attacks a bit more than Hewitt and Murray.

Yes, he looks like someone who has played a lot of matches recently, it would be amazing if digs himself out of this one. Would be good to see him take on Murray.
Tsonga safely through in straights after a slow start.

So tomorrow:
Djokovic-Haas
SImon-Tipsarevic
Ferrer-Nihikori
Ramos-Melzer
Gasquet-Almagro
Querrey-Berdych/Falla
Seppi-Murray
Tsonga-Isner/Cilic
Interesting that Raonic gave Querrey a walkover.

Versus Ferrer, there is only one grinder possible...and it's Ferrer....unless he plays Nadal or Murray.

I have a feeling this is Ferrer's last year in the top 5, I can't see him physically being able to sustain all that running week in week out.Tenez wrote:Versus Ferrer, there is only one grinder possible...and it's Ferrer....unless he plays Nadal or Murray.

Possibly though you know that stamina usually improves with age...up to a point of course. Look at the TDF winners...I think the average is 33!!!!
Toni believes he is going to win a slam. SB would call that wishful thinking I guess.

that's interesting, I didn't know it. It's just that he said recently he finds it harder to recover between matches and needs more rest which is completely understandable.
Tennis is so demanding on the entire body, he has probably peaked with his stamina as the body will start to show wear and tear rapidly from now on.
Although, if the courts were made faster, they could all happily play well in their mid 30s. Haas is amazing in that way although he actually did not spend years of grinding on tour due to years of being injured.
I enjoyed watching Youzhny yesterday, I don't know why media goes on and on calling players old when they turn 30. Particularly annoying with Federer in that way constantly asking him about retirement, I wish they'd shut up! Thank God for all the fans around the world who carry him on!
Roddick has never been one my favourite characters, but this was one of his redeeming, stellar moments

I think it is at least as bad.
1 - A tennis player doubles his earnings for every match won and is given another chance to double again winning a round, so the temptation is huge and that is why they were also doping in the 80s (probably before).
2 - Much less control and testing is done over doping.
3 - Slow conds, new strings simply make the physical side way too important nowadays. We saw yesterday Dimi v Murray. When it came to crunch time....Murray simply stayed in the rally, rock solid until Dimi threw an UE. Don;t know if you saw but Murray was visibly the more exhausted at the end cause he moves his tall body like Ferrer.
4 - the sport organisation is as rotten as UCI. They have purposedly reduced the number of tests at a time tennis was making most money (Fedal's years) to allow proper doping.
5 - Draws are very fishy...to say the least.
And I could go on but my point 1 is simply the main reason why athlete woudl dope and athletes in tennis are no different than in cycling or track racing. If they can make the difference they will.

Well, it looks like it was an easy puff grind for Ferrer today 6:4 6:2, I expected better fight from Nishikori.
Gasquet-Almagro starting...let's play predictions....Gasquet in 3.

Ok...I'll say Gasquet in 2.
Good match. Gasquet FH is very short and loopy whereas it can really be a weapon if confident. Not great today.

Watching Serena Li Na for a bit now. Serena, just so good to watch in all her ways!
The thing which has always fascinated me with her is that despite her size, she always seems to have tons of time on almost every ball.

They are playing some really nice, cheerful tune in the changeover, I can't work out what it is!!!! And it's hard to believe that as I am typing this, with the heating full blast on, sheepsing slippers on, a few thousands miles away people are sitting in the stands, in the blazing sunshine, wearing t-shirts, watching the same match!
The gals are really belting the ball hard, I can't believe it!
Serena definitely past her prime, beatable with a bit of consistency from the baseline...except that consistency is such a rare commodity among women....

I watched Gasquet-Tsonga practice session in O2 last November and was amazed as how cleanly and well Gasquet hits the ball, so much better than Tsonga, and yet in the match situation he allows his head to annul all the talent he has, such a shame!
