I think he gets nervous when the opponent is willing and able to stay with him in physical rallies.

We need 2 sets Theim to keep this power and run, 3rd set Rafa will be knackered.

I don't know.  He has been playing a lot of drop shots all season long.  I think they are a part of the plan.

He is certainly chasing so many hopeless balls that either he is bluffing or he thinks he can last.

Thiem had to win that game to win this set. Weak mentality and pathetic schedule caused this outcome

Yeh, Nole is too soft on the clay courts ever since he won it in 2016. He would atleast show up in the final and get a set, which Thiem WON'T

Here we go.  Thiem looks quite good the first part of the set but in the end 6:3 is pretty typical for their RG set scores.

What now for Thiem? Assuming he is physically up for it, should he continue engaging in the grueling rallies or should he try to go more aggressive?

Having said that Nadal will tire..... There is hope.

One moment Thiem is 3:2 up with a break, and next thing you know he lost 3:6.

Boy, this could be another RG where Rafa does not even get properly tested by anyone.

I am starting to really imagine him reaching #21 as he wins his 15th RG in 2022.  

Won't matter - he'll never be seen as an overall player with that kind of record.  It only shows how one dimensional he is.

His draws last few years have been pathetic - and he's not had any true rival on clay apart from a hard courter called Djokovic lol.

This set is not nearly as intense as the first.  Thiem's level especially dropped, but Rafa not playing his best either.

Is Rafa just waiting for the latter stages to go for a kill again, or is there more life left in this match?

Funny how tennis scoring can work.

In the first set, Thiem looked quite competitive for the most part, yet he lost it 6:3

Here in the second, he is playing far worse, have not yet won a point on Rafa's serve, yet we are still on serve and he won 4 games already.

In any event, just like in the first set I expect Rafa to step it up in the next two Thiem's service games.

i'm not even watching.  I'm not interested in this poxy event.  I just want Nadal to lose - so looking at the scores and this forum here and there.

I am almost sure had Nadal and Djok's position been switched this tournament, Nadal would already be out. Thiem has had a far harder draw and contended with the most ridiculous delays there's been. Nadal's had his usual lucker draw.

Also, Federer should not have entered.  He simply took out a man who may have given Nadal a game.

Who would have beaten him though?  It's not like Nole faced super hard opposition, and Rafa always beats everyone here anyway.

Anyway, 6:5 without playing well is not too bad.  I suppose there is always some chance Thiem breaks now, or if not, then that he may take TB.  But he kind of has to do one or the other.  It would be next to impossible to come back from two sets down.

He's gonna have to do more on Doper's serve... coz so far he's done nothing on it this set
