Zika virus and the Olympics
Raonic ,Berdych and Halep are just a few atheltes who have decided not to compete at the olympics over the fears of the zika virus
Intially it started off with a few big name golfers but now fears seemed to have spread to athletes competing in other sports too
Are thier fears really legitimate?
if their conern is that serious should the games even go ahead to begin with
The games dont look bright if athletes arent competiting cause of health and safety concern
Thats the last thing anyone should have to question

Re: Zika virus and the Olympics
so much scnadal surrounding the games and it hasnt even started yet..18 golfers pulling out not only cause of the zika virus but because of the scheduling
world anti doping agnecy calls for all russin athletes to be banned from competing
none of the pakistanis athletes have qualified to compete at the games...
rafael nadal says nothing can keep him away from the rio games ( cough /laugh)
the rio olympic committee bought 450 000 condons for the 10 500 athletes...
sounds like its going to be one hell of a games!!!

Byw, I think that funny sounding virus is another manufactured fear-mongering palaver, just like SARS, swine flu etc....
It's all become painfully transparent.

Re: Zika virus and the Olympics
has there ever been an olympics where so many well known athletes refused to compete in?
doesnt really bode well for the olympics as the pinnacle of sporting achievement when athletes would rather not compete
i dont know what to make about the virus istself, was reading up a little bit aout it and it seems that the side effects of it is pretty serious
whether or not that is used as fear mongering leaves me undecide
im not sure whats to be gained out if it either..

I am sure there are tragic deaths.
Here, too, but nobody seems to find it worthy of mentioning it in the news for some reason...23 million unborn children murdered already this year:

I haven't seen and read anything about this virus. All I know is some tennis players are cancelling travelling to Rio because of it.

We Serbs love the sun, but I got acclimatised to english summers so even 25 degrees feels like 40!
But not complaining.
Enjoying flying downhill on my bike and wearing summer dresses without a jumper even in the evening!
Shame there aren't many nice open air swimming pools here like we have in Belgrade...where men sit in the shade and drink cold beer and women look pretty.
And they don't rip you off for an ice-cream.
Last time I went, it was at Tasmajdan, same venue where they played DC at the weekend.
Great music played on speakers...everyone happy...rare fat person or a tattooo..
Yes, I know I am old fashioned!!!

Re: Zika virus and the Olympics
im not complaing about the heatwave after all the weeks of rain that we have had, growing up in a country where the sun shines 365 days a year, summer is something that i really looks forward to
for a while it looked like we werent going to have a summer this year so im pretty happy about this heatwave but i have to agree NITB there arent many places to go and cool down in such heat
public swimming pools are so unhygenic!!
so is rafael nadal really going to go to the olympics?
or is he just saying that nothing i.e a virus can keep him away, not nothing can stop him from playing?
maybe he is going so that he can conveniently use the zika virus as an excuse whever the need or opportunity arisis
you can rule anything out when it comes to him lol

Re: Zika virus and the Olympics
I am still getting used to tennis being an olympic sport...and watch it only out of habit.
Even when I watched the final live in London in 2012, it looked weird with all the purple commercials on CC and people not havng a clue about tennis.
Many around me didn't know even basic rules....I felt like a guru.
Not sure about Nadal, I thought he was njured...we'll see if he plays at all...maybe he just wants to carry the flag for Spain and then pull out...it's best of 3 there anyway, so h may try out his form...if he is to play im Crnci/USO...thogh I doubt he will.
I don't know what to think..it has been such a weird year and I don't expect OG to be any different.

Re: Zika virus and the Olympics
looks like they are really serious about banning the whole russian olympic team but my gut feeling is that its all talk and no action
i would be very very suprirsed if they actually go ahead and ban the whole team
i would seem unfair if the russians were banned but not the spaniards..
maybe this is all political....
the olympics at wimbledon looked very amatuer as a sporting event,i wouldnt have even rated it as a masters 1000 event...

It would be a nice way to hurt the Russians and Brazilians financially! 2 ennemies of the western world.Veejay wrote:looks like they are really serious about banning the whole russian olympic team but my gut feeling is that its all talk and no action

why is brazil an enemy of the western world?
the tension between russia and the western world is contunually intensifying

It's a threat to the $$ hegemony. Currently the $$ has replaced gold as the world currency standard. If the NBD comes with its own banking system te US may have to face and deal with its trillions of debts. For now they can keep printing their fake currency but soon, it will implode.
The world is really close to a financial catastrophe hence the increasing tensions between East and West.
Why are UK?US troops defying Russia by settling right at its border?

Interesting.
With this Olympic boycotting, it looks like Cold War all over again.
I somehow think there won"t be a financial catastrophe, nor a WWW3.
But life will definitely become harder for ordinary people, everywhere.

Must be. The scheduling is bad.
I don't remember Toronto and Cinci being separated by the Olympics in 2012.
Nole hasn't cancelled (yet).

Re: Zika virus and the Olympics
not surprised thsat murray and federer arent playing rogers cup
i think scheduling with the olympics is insane...
08 beiging was probably worse
so did anyone see the documentary aboput doping last last..
it was really interesting
ive been around the gyms for a long time and i thought id seen it all..my god the amount of drugs there are out there that i have never even heard of was really shocking, not the mentions the amount of various ways there are of doping or taking them to avoid testing postitive
its crazy what people are doing to their bodies
they thouched on the amount of athletes who passed tests at the beiging olympics but having had their samples re-tested ended up failing i think the craziest thing for me was seeing how mike tyson used to dope
he actually used to buy a penis ( shockingly looking 100% real) that you could strap on yourself with a place where you could store the urine ( obviously from someone who was clean) and the you ccould just squeeze it out
crazzy stuff!!!!

Simply amazing...it must be so degrading to go through those moments...surely your conscience, even if it's been seared to death must squeak a little and make you feel sick of yourself.
But again, they probably think: I'd rather do this than clean streets...

Re: Zika virus and the Olympics
that penis contraption was just insane..it was like nothing i have ever seen before,i still cant get my head around it!!
but just seeing the length these athletes go to really made me feel for them
not to condone doping but it just makes you realise why they do it..
they are all working their asses off and with how competitive sport today is,its almost like you stand no chance if you dont dope
yeah some of them are making millions upon millions but for most athletes they are just trying to earn a living doing what they love to do
you have to win to earn a living or get sponsership..
its so tough being in their position

Re: Zika virus and the Olympics
Actually, something even worse was done in Serbia when we had 12 months of compulsory national service.
People would "hire" other men with ill bladder or kidneys to pass urine on their behalf, or even worse drink some dangerous chemicals to temporarily ruin their urinary tract and test positive i.e. be declared unfit for military service..
There was a comedy film in which the main character is a rally driver and is desperate to win his final race...he hires a guy...all goes to plan... they manage to switch in toilets...only to find out that the "ill" guy aka Mile Rent A Kidney (unbeknown to him during the test) got cured in the meantime...
It was a super-cool film!

so i take it doing military service is compulsory then?
it doesnt surprise me that anyone would go to such extremes to avoid having to do military service especially in a recent war zone
i think its very different if someone chooses to do military serive rather then be drafted to do military service
i would probably have done the same thing to avoid doing military service...im juts too precious for something like that

Most went at 18 after secondary school, those who enrolled university could postpone it till 27, but generally didn't.
People made friends for life, not to mention super cool "departure" parties" parents would throw in for their sons out of pride. And the home made cakes and food mothers and aunts would bring...only the finest! ooooh....
I even used to DJ for most of my cousins.

Actually, very few tried to avoid it as it was considered shameful.

well it doesnt make much sense cause a lot of people believe that the olympics are brought to you by the same people who instigate the majoirty of the wars
it would be shooting themselves in the foot cause sport is a tool they use to keep the masses distracted while they questly colonise the wolrd and take our freedoms away
