I have made up the values. I know Rotla you like to normalise according to your rule but I think it's important not to give the doubles as much value as the singles and regarding the singles the ranking is not always a precise reflection of the difference in leve.

I have to say, these quarter finals are looking rather tasty! Really nice line-up. However, even though Simon is one of my favourite players, he's a really dangerous opponent for Federer . I hope Fed gets it done in straights, otherwise it'll diminish his chances in the semis, as Simon tires him out.
Also, I've really enjoyed Pospisil so far in the tournament; nice player. Good serve, and good at the net. You can tell he's used to playing a lot of doubles.

Gasquet in a funny way kind of did it. Remember he called Rafa and asked him to plead in his favour when he tested + for cocaine.

Yes, exciting. Shame my 2 most interesting matches are scheduled at the same time, or at least as 2nd matches. Likewise, I want federer to win in 3 without wasting energy.

Remember BTW, when we thought back in 2010 that Federer would retire after 2012 olympics?

Well 3 years on he is still around with a decent chance to do some damage.

I don't think we'll see a lot of upsets today, though I am hoping for some. Go Pospisil, Cilic and Gasquet (only if Cilic wins!)

As much as I'd like Gasquet to win, I'd rather see Stan facing Djoko than Gasquet. ...So I'll root for Stan here.

Federer wobbles in his first serve but recovers from 0/30 down with 4 points in a row....then goes on to break Simon with a beautiful DTL BH.

Terrible luck there for this day to be on C1.

I don;t understand how slow they are to lift that cover and start play again. It's pretty bright where I am...and I can see the sky above the courts from home.

Now those plastic covers might seem a simple thing...but in the US), they find them too messy. They prefer to hire those huge machines blowing hot air, which take ages!

Good to hear. It shouldn't be a problem then, sky looks lighter already on the broadcast. They probably just wait a bit to remove the covering to be sure.

For sure the covers seem more energy efficient.

Looks like Fed's eyes are getting smaller and deeper into his skull...with age.

I expect Fed to be breaking Simon's serve at will. There has not been a single game won comfortably by Simon.

The commentator's curse! Simon just wins his serve easily to love.

The problem Federer has is that if he loses a service game or a set, Simon is a very dangerous player as the match drags on. So even if Federer is 2 sets up, it's never over with Simon.

Fed breaks.. it was about time.

Very smartly at 15/40 on Simon serve, Fed defends letting Simon take all the risk...Unlike Federer but since Federer produces teh aggressive most of the time, a change of game role was smart.

Yeah..saw that in AUS open 2011 few years back... Fed leading 2-0 sets, then Simon gets the next 2.

I think you are a bit harsh. I agree he plays soft most of the time but mixes it with clean flat shots.

He is playing well...just had a bad service game which can always happen. However his main problem is still quite a few UEs and slow pace BHs.

It's going to be harder v Murray and Djoko for sure.

hmm, i'm not very impressed with how Fed plays.. (like i'm watching "Federer light"). It's not looking deadly, not much penetration on his shots. I'm actually surprised Simon isn't making things harder for him..

Imo Stan has a better chance to win this tournament

I'd agree that Stan may have more chance to beat Djoko but I woudl be very surprised if Stan were to beat Federer on this surface!

And it was very windy...so difficult to see Fed pulling great confident shots. He did what he had to do.

McEnroe and Henman very suspicious about the timing of Garcia's time warning calls.
