Just came back from tennis, I can't believe how much fitness I lost just from living&watching in the sofa for one week, even the racquet felt heavy

Fed playing well.
Should've really won that 2nd set yesterday...
Monf mainly pushing the ball hoping for a mistake.
Such a lazy player.

Actually, Monfils doesn't have a clue how to attack, just not sharp enough.

Could be a crucial hold that from Monfils. 0-40 down and holds.

Re: Roland Garros 2015: Daily Prediction Game, Day 9 1-June-2015
Just saw this, Fed on DBH, translation from Serbian:
"It's simply isn't a natural shot for me, I can barely string two on a court.
I am fascinated to see other players hit a DBH.
I dreamt I could do it, but now I know it's never going to happen.
I'd've liked to have had Agassi's DBH."
I know exactly what he means...

Fed is playing a bit conservatively on his serve after he got the break.
But he wakes up in this last point, good!

He is beginning to strike the BH well and aggressively again.
Serving for the set now, and the serve has been good for him so far and made his life relatively easy in this match.

It doesn't mean he's actually run, it could be all the extra steps he took running around his BH.
Plus, it's all the steps/metres rushing the net.
Fed's metres are not the same as Monf's.

Actually maybe there is something wrong with Monfils, it's not characteristic of him to go to the net so often.

Double break!
That should do the job with not too much energy spent today.

He had run way over 200m more. That accumulates up for just steps to run round the bh? Does Monfils not do that?

Not quite, as Federer does not bombard Monf's BH like Monf bombs Fed's.

I am not surprised. With his BH on clay...opponents can really dictate Federer with their FH. Federer is forced to play his BH cross court therefore they know where the ball is coming and do not have to go far from centre court.luvsports! wrote:Federer has run more metres than Monfils. DHBH is really what forces the running...on those slow surfaces.

The metres also came from all CC shots Monfils was hitting onto the BH corner.
Fed was getting to them all as they weren't that fast, but Monf couldn't get to a lot of Fed's FH winners.

But what he doesn't say is that a DHBH feels unatural to anybody as well....Just that it feels more natural (or easier rather) than the SHBH simply because SHBH requires much better timing. If you don't have that natural precise timing, you simply can't become a professional tennis player nowadays.....whereas with a DHBH you will not be found out as much.....if you can compensate with footwork.noleisthebest wrote:Just saw this, Fed on DBH, translation from Serbian:

Had Fed learnt DHBH, it woudl have become as natural as it was for others too.
Tsonga is a good example of a player who certainly a SHBH feels more natural than DHBH.....but he still manages to be a top 10 player with a DHBH....I doubt he woudl have made it that far with a SHBH.

I managed to persuade two people in my club to switch to SBH, and they both said it feels more natural to them.
I tried it for a laugh, and it's very awkward, esp the right arm, it's the weirdest shot ever!

Murray v CHardy...the US junior champion v teh Wimbledon Junior champion.....such different path since.....essentially cause one chose the physical route, the other did not.
But today we can see why Chardy's natural skill (FH timing) brought him the title then....however without the added fitness he stand no chance in slams.
In other words without dodgy muscles you cannot win slams.

I watched Chardy in two matches last Wimbledon...brilliant FH, lovely BH slice, too, he was in really good form, beat Stakh, but lost to Cilic who was serving lights out.

LS can you see the difference in talent between Chardy and Murray? Without Murray's additional muscles, it woudl be 62 62 62 for Chardy!

If Chardy keeps plugging he has a chance as Murray is not ususally very good over 5 sets. But I feel that despite Chardy running much less he will still end up more exhausted to play his risky shots.

This is another good match to observe quality of metres run by both players.
Murray's metres are safe as he retrieves, Chardy's are oxygen taxing as he goes for his shots full on all the time.

Even Murray great volleys and drop shots are a lot to do with his arm's strength.

thnx for the updates folks!
I think i now have a clue what's going on.
About the BH: A SHBH has it's benefits: Fed would have stopped playing 2 years ago had he played with a DHBH. It forces much more rotation -and thus damage- of the upper body than a SH.

And as said, Chardy's edge is more likely to get blunt than Murray's mouvement.
