Wimbledon 2014: MOTD Day 9 Wed 02/07/2014
The matches for today are:
1. Simona Halep (ROU) [17]
v
Sabine Lisicki (GER) [33]
Expect a blockbuster of a women's match
2. Andy Murray (GBR) [25]
v
Grigor Dimitrov (BUL) [33]
Another one.. QF are the best part days for a slam.
3. Stan Wawrinka (SUI) [33]
v
Roger Federer (SUI) [32]
I'm gonna be relaxed for this. I totally like Stan, but this is Fed's slam.
4. Eugenie Bouchard (CAN) [33]
v
Angelique Kerber (GER) [29]
Will be interesting. I wanted to see new faces in women's tennis. Far too long the Williams have been winning with almost zero competition.
5. Novak Djokovic (SRB) [8]
v
Marin Cilic (CRO) [33]
6. Milos Raonic (CAN) [8]
v
Nick Kyrgios (AUS) [33]
7.Julien Benneteau (FRA) [25]
Edouard Roger-Vasselin (FRA) [25]

5. Djokovic, though Cilic can pull out a set.

I was not in favour of this Joker idea actually, but nitb said she would be fine. I totally know calculating points etc. takes some good effort.

Halep, Murray, Federer, Bouchard (joker), Nole, Kyrgi, Llodra/Mahut for sentimental reasons as I met them on Friday and took a photo with them, Llodra even cracked a joke in Serbian (Zimonjic taught him when they were playing doubles a few years ago)

I can't see Murray beating Dimitrov....
Djok, Dimi, Fed, Kyrgios
What a talented line up we have this year. All can do superb shot making.

oh good, site working again for me.
Let's see...
1. Halep - Lisicki rather weak yesterday
2. Dimitrov - please end the Murray hype on BBC
3. Federer (joker) - I trust you to bring your best game which should be enough to beat Wawrinka comfortably
4. Bouchard - haven't seen her or Kerber, so just a wild guess
5. Djokovic - can't see Cilic taking more than a set or two at most
6. Kyrgios - Raonic is the favourite for me though, will be a completely different match for Nick than against Nadal
7. Llodra- Mahut

I'm in!!!
Was even given a lift by friends with the CC tickets I'm hoping to get after the Murray match
There was no queue for ground passes at all, so got mine for £17.
Already met up with some friends from the club who are currently baking on Henman Hill watching Murray.
I am sat in the nice gangway shade of CC and saw the entire Murray box and the tournament director walk by.
Murray's gf looked a bit worried, walking stiffly on her enormous platform high heels!
Am in no hurry to watch Murray but will try and see Nole.
First things - first, off to fetch a cool Pimms....would be great to see the Frenchies doubles, too!
Btw, it's a gorgeous sunny day...viva Wimbledon!!!!!

Just spoke to my mum who is elated Nadal lost yesterday.
Apparently my dad (well-known for his political incorrectness and the nick-names he gives to players) instantly took to the young Aussie "Obama"

On court 12 loving Frenchies doubles!
Llodra os in a league of his own...such a great player: he strikes the ball so cleanly and crisply, great server, very nice BH, as for volleys - super stuff - like lasers!
Vasselin is also quite good.
Mahut and Benne look plain compared to the other two.
ALLEZZZZZ!!!

Murray - Dimitrov not really an upset. Murray wasn't really testend so far. Dimitrov looked much better vs. Murray than vs. Dolgopolov.

Dimitrov is more talented than Murray... and on grass with the way he is playing, he will be a handful for anyone. He is fulfilling his talent.

i think murray dropping lendl as a coach is the biggest mistake of his career
i doubt he will win another major
he hasnt won a tournament since last wimbledon and it doesnt look like he will again

Puh, that was tight. Got so nervous, I checked the score on that last game repeatedly (coverage lagged a little bit). Some shock misses during the last two Federer service games, but made it through. Wawrinka again with incredible power. Where does this guy come from suddenly and what has he done to the young Wawrinka? When he fell sick (won't comment on that), his power level came down to what is normal for most players. Incredible.
Still happy! With the exception of Raonic, only the players I wanted to made it through! Sad to see Kyrgios go , but it was expected after his 5setter and 2 4setters (the Nadal one should be counted among the 5setters for exhaustion caused by it). So all in all a very good day, just like yesterday.
To add to my remark to Dimitrov - Murray: The upset was not surprising, but the way of it rather shocked me. A straight set victory that left Murray no chances. Oh well, I'll be happy with either Djokovic and Dimitrov winning the SF there.

Murray is now like Federer. Injured with a back problem and both are extremely erratic. Nothing to do with coaching.
Murray is actually in a worse off situation as he can't get by without his amazin fitness.

Dimitrov will finally enter top 10. If he loses to Nole, he will be #9 (Andy dropping to #10) and if he somehow wins the title, he will go up all the way to #5.

Re: Wimbledon 2014: MOTD Day 9 Wed 02/07/2014
I did not see yesterday's match, but am pretty sure Murray was injured.
There is no way Dimi would have beaten a fit Murray, esp in straight sets.
Murray can more or less do everything Dimi can, plus he is a better mover and has a superior BH.
Yesterday, I had my sandwich in the cool shade of CC gangway, and happened to unknowingly be sat outside Murray's box entrance.
The whole team walked past me: his girlfriend, physio, fitness and all of them looked usually gloomy and worried.
Even the tournament director walked hurriedly three times back and forth with his live radio.
I reckon Murray was told to play because of fans and tournament, it would have been hard for him to give Dimi a w/o under the circumstances.
So I expect a comfortable win from Nole tomorrow.

Sad Kyrgi lost yesterday, really hope he does not vanish into thin air after Wimbledon.
Match against Nadal clearly took a lot out of him, shame as unlike Raonic, he is so good to watch. So much flair and love for the game, he's bursting with it!
Just look at this beauty from yesterday....

Yes Murray was also injured......like he is likely to be the rest of his career..unless he has a second operation. To me he was also injured at the FO v Nadal. He made Nadal look better than he was.

Nadal has become quite beatable this year, he should never have won that RG.
Despite the ultra easy draw, his ultimate hot dry conditions, sick Nole nearly beat him there....
He's got a mountain of points to defend now, so we'll see how he goes on American hard courts with fit Nole and Fed plus all these fast catching up young players growing in confidence.
Hopefully, the almost forgotten Delpo will be joining the caravan soon, too.
