LS!!!!!
Long time no see, I thought you've forgotten about us....
Hope you enjoyed your work in the sticks of Scotland.
I did such an awesome schmoozing act this Wimbledon...walked right into row 3, level one, right behind the cameras opposite the Royal box of CC to watch the entire Nole-Tsonga

Same as always...workhorsing it at OTF and having plenty of tennis fun playing, watching, writing about it...
I even went to RG final only to suffer a minor sunstroke and a major heartache...
Tennis 2014 has been quite interesting. Things...they are a changin' !

Re: Wimbledon 2014: MOTD Day 13 Sun 06/07/2014 - Gentlemen's Final
Now that we have the finals thread, I'm shifting this post over here:
noleisthebest wrote:Tomorrow it will be Federer's 24th and Djokovic's 10th slam final.
Amazingly but for some of us not surprisingly, it will only be the second time they meet in one. Last time it was 7 years ago in USO 2007... (doesn't time fly?)
Nole was a young 19 year old "young gun". Does anyone remember those 7 set points he choked away?
Tomorrow, it will also be only their second match they played on grass.
Tomorrow, we shall see two currently best players in their prime: Federer is fit and healthy, his game on grass, even this slow and parched one is better than ever.
Nole, a classic hard-courter has never been a grass expert, yet as aggressive as a baseliner can get, has worked hard on his transition game.
An ultimate attacker versus an ultimate defender. Should be a good match!
I hope for no wind and no rain. Let the sun and tennis shine!
This is what the two had to say about tomorrow's final:
Djokovic:
"The key against him in the game, of course, is trying to not allow him to dictate too much, because he likes to be very aggressive, he likes to come to net. I’m going to have to be able to get as many returns back in the court and try to also stay closer to the line, protect the baseline.
I want things to go a proper way from the first point to the last...so sometimes I get carried away with emotions....I was a set and a break up and, again, I made some unforced errors and gave my opponent today a hope that he can win the match. That’s something that I definitely cannot allow myself in the finals against Roger."
Federer:
"Well, we both like to be close to the baseline. We both like to take charge, especially on quicker courts...I think for me it’s really important to stay aggressive against him. And especially here at Wimbledon it’s more simple how we need to play against each other. It’s not like on a slow court where you can maybe maneuver the other guy around so much.
.....
Eight is my favorite number."

I had such tough times picking Nole-Fed.
Fed voice in me was saying: I'll win, I'm better, I'll teach that little upstart a lesson in grass tennis.
Nole voice: Oh, no you won't. Over my dead body. You'll have to earn it the haaaard way...you and your beloved CC crowd...
And it kept going in circles. Finally, Nole's voice "reassured me". It just wouldn't go away. But I can still see Fed winking in the background...
Funny isn't it!

Tenez: I know, odd pick there. But I really think Fed might do it - he has looked better of the two most of the tournament and he does not have the same difficulties against Nole as against Rafa.
Once I decided I would pick Fed, it was going to be either straight sets or four sets - I do not think Fed would win in five (if he cannot do better than 2-2 in the first four sets, I only see him wilting in the fifth).
In that final step, I went with my heart over my head. If I went purely with head, I would have probably picked Fed in 4. But not much difference between 3 and 4 in my mind, so I picked straight sets so that my pick is aligned with my natural preference.

I thought that "honey I am home" was based on Sam's words when he returns home. But maybe it was just my vivid imagination.
Anyway, good to have you back.
Same old here. Not all that much has changed since you left. Rafa is still winning RG and the big four are still able to hold off the young guns - even though this time I do not think it is for much longer. I would think Grigor will win a slam by the end of next year.

Re: Wimbledon 2014: MOTD Day 13 Sun 06/07/2014 - Gentlemen's Final
Fed in 4 is the most logical choice for me. (joker) Nole should be too good to go down in 3 and he is the favourite to win in 5 should he get there, since he will want to grind Fed down. (I’m going to have to be able to get as many returns back in the court and try to also stay closer to the line, protect the baseline.)
Things to favour Fed:
- Movement
- Serve (especially second)
- surface
- 5 hours less spent on court
- seemingly in very good shape this tournament
- opponent is a favourable match-up for him, Djoko usually troubled by Fed's game style
- 2014 2-1 with only Djokovic win coming in a tiebreak decider set
- the crowd
Things to favour Djokovic:
- youth
- consistency
- opponent didn't face a whole lot of baseline grinders on his way to the final
unknown factors:
- who will let the pressure get to them more with Fed that close to 8th Wimbledon/ No 18 and Djokovic maybe afraid of losing another final
- who can bring their best current game?
Will hopefully be a cracker of a match with my nerves more likely than not in ruins.
2. I don't know, but I am going with Zimjonic/Stosur in 2

Even I tuned in in extra time...only to drop off during the second half...
The Costaricans were really pathetic in their rolling over, playing dirty, stretching time... so glad they were outplayed and knocked out!
Can't believe such a poor team even made it to QF, doesn't say a lot about the others...
Another reason to prefer glorious tennis, the sport to end all sports

Haha, I went into the Netherlands - Costa Rica match as a neutral and started to root very passionately against Costa Rica due to their dull and cowardly game style which was based on having 10 men defending and hoping for a lucky punch. So glad they are out, couldn't beleive the Brasilians of all people were rooting for them.

I suspect they may have been rooting against the Dutch. They will probably be rooting against whoever they perceive as bigger threat to Brazil.Autumnleaf wrote:couldn't beleive the Brasilians of all people were rooting for them.
I am not German, but have always been rooting for Germany in soccer (don't ask why, I myself have no clue). Brazil have looked very ordinary so far this tournament, so I am hopeful Germany can knock them out.

Not sure what you mean. Not a single poor player in the last 32, maybe even 64. Nadal will always look odd on grass with his game esp FH...Some better than others, that's all.
Not so in football. Imagine a tennis player slip on grass and then roll over for two minutes, screwing his face like they are pulling his nails out...every time! Or Nadal running into Kyrgi biting him on the shoulder...football was always played by lots of very dirty players who got away with it scot free.
We carry on over little things here compared to what goes on in football matches. Esp behind the scenes. It's a filthy sport with too much money swilling around.
Tennis is sadly catching up, though.
I can't believe that hog Blatter is still running the show.

He is. His game allows him to be.
He is striking his FH better than Fed atm, which is a bit of a surprise from Fed.
He will have to mix the game up and be more aggressive despite Nole reading him well when at the net.

Nole's serving is excellent, esp the 2nd serve, striking his BH sweetly, too, looks as sharp as he can be.
And let's not forget who's across the net....

Henman Hill for some reason looks much bigger on TV. It's a great place to go and watch the match from!
Everyone's had a few drinks and in real super happy mood
Did I tell you I saw a guy and his wife there on Wednesday, a Spanish RF fan (with a customary SIGNED RF cap ) who I saw and took a photo with two years ago at a tube station with my NOLEISTHEBEST Serbian flag, on my/our way to the Olympic Tennis final.
He actually remembered it was at Earls Court.
Tennis nation rocks!

I don't know how I'm going to cope with this match...I'm shaking already. I haven't really thought about it too much so as not to get too disappointed if Fed loses. I think it's behind the sofa time for me too.

Fed broken for the second time this tournament. Deserved though - Nole has been putting more pressure on Fed's serve than vice versa.
