None of us picked Tursunov even though he has had far superior summer to Gasquet and - as I just noticed - has a 5-2 H2H vs Richard.  And we could have had 8 points had he won.  Gasquet had better not let us down after we show so much faith in him.

No I don't do that because I'm crazy, I do it so I can see the points distribution and can have the background highlighted in yellow for the picks (using the quote thing).

Yes, Tursunov was good value for an 8 there, but Gasquet is bookies favourite (and is a perennial loser in R4 in slams- so R3 should techinically be ok for him).

btw I have decided:

From the Quarter Finals onwards, each match will have a possible of 15 points rather than the 10 points currently.
This is due to the fact there is less matches per round at that stage, as well as having greater importance.

Hehe, I did not do it to mock you.  I just tought it was a nice touch on your part and thought it would be also nice if someone wished you good luck too.  Of course, now you have to deal with your picks being highlighted in yellow twice...

Works for me; was just thinking last night that later round matches should be given more points - also to make it less likely that the whole thing is decided too early.

PS  As long as you do not give 200 points for the final just because you are dead last after the SF.

I know women's tennis is a bit of a joke these days, but couldn't help noticing a horde of young Americans sweeping some favourites away, first Duval knocked out Stosur in the first round, then today this "Riske" blew Kvitova away 6:3 6:0...

Will be interesting to see how Serena deals with Sloane Stephens after losing to her last time they played, there is a bit of catty tension and rivalry between the two carried over to press conferences and other media...I reckon Serena is going to teach the young diva another lesson.

That aside, I really look forward to Federer-Mannarino match and will make an effort to see it despite the horrible last night match slot scheduling Grr
I don't expect a lot from Adrian, but would be nice if he could at least bring his A form against Maestro.

Yes, I have worked him out long time ago. JJ is completely different, shame he injured his back and lost early. I am a bit undecided about Dimitrov...he is definitely not a choker, just annoys me he plays the way he does atm.

I have a feeling he likes life a bit too much, going through a Gulbis phase, not focused enough and happy with where he is at right now, which he should not be.
Or maybe I am expecting too much. He needs a good coach to hone his game asap. He is not going anywhere far scrambling on the baseline.

LS/Veejay/anyone else,

how does this cycling up and down go in doping?
How long does a cycle last and how long does the break in between the two need to be?
And what is  a cycle anyway, do you take pills, injections, medicine, sorry for the amateurish question, but I just don't have a clue and watching Nadal now, I can see there will be no "surprise" losses like he always seem to have in Wimbledon these days, he is obviously full on in his "fitness" cycle, is it going to drop after USO or is it going to last, will he have time to repeat it for WTF if it "expires" ( whatever he is using, I am just assuming that the "stuff" wears out, hence the cycling DOWN term)?

Have a great time SB!
I take it they don't sell Pimms at USO, but do try to have as much fun as possible, and of course, now that you've let it out of the bag, we expect a full first-hand report about EVERYTHING and a few photos of Nole...there are some really great matches on tomorrow!
Must be great to be able to just pick up a ticket and go, not like here with this rotten Wimbledon ticket didstribution...
I am planning/hoping to go there next year  diva

Kholi rightly through though Isner served for the 4th set and with such a serve there is no excuse for being broken...bar choking.

Gasquet played really well bit so did Tursinov until he got injured....we don't quite know what was wrong but he suddenly went to the net to shake hands after being a break down in the 4th set.

Too tired to watch Fed later....good night all.

Dan Evans, WHAT A GUY!!!!!!!!! cracker
Just started watching the match, he is two sets down against Robredo, but oh, what a lovely surprise: he is everything Murray is not: aggressive, full of buzz, he really goes for the ball, and yes, that SBH is not kept in the rallying drawer.
He's just broken Robredo and serving for the 3rd set,

And he serves it out with love and an ace!

He is so pumped and basically walking on water with his shots!
The night New York crowd is great giving support to both players.

Robredo complaining about something with his leg....is he trying to stop Evans's momentum?

I still can't believe how likable the guy is...so positive and natural on court! You really don't need to be brainwashed into liking him like it has been the case with Murray....

Evans just won a fantastic long rally Robredo thew in at the beginning of his serving game and did so by throwing in a BHDTL and get Robredo out of position for his CC FH, impressive!
He is on fire, and yes, he can volley as well, real fun to watch, not phased in the least!Bubbly

Surprisingly, Robredo "fit" and having no trouble breathing after 20+ shots...

And Evans breaks in the 4th set, 3:2 and serving. He is really getting into Robredo's head now, giving him no space to breath with his full-on attacking, he is so so good!

Even Judy Murray is in the house beaming with excitement and smiles, she can't believe her eyes either!

Boredo, the faker, after nearly a full set of icing his leg, limping and "suffering" leaps into the air like a butterfly after breaking Evans who fails to serve out the 4th set.
The plot thickens...
Come on Dan, you can do it!!!!! diva

And  Robredo eventually wins....he really had to play his sock off to beat Evans who paid the price for his inexperience, so sad for him Cry

What a heroic and fantastic USO he has had, I really hope he continues with the form and makes a proper breakthrough Applause

Hopefully, Wozniacki will have lost her match by now so Masetro and Mannarino can take the stage and show the pusher how tennis is played Magic
Surprisingly, I am not tired in the least, must be that after-lunch kip I had Big Grin

Federer is in his FH mood turning poor Mannarino into a grinder.
Mannarino without his first serve most of the time does not have much choice.

Fed's serve is still pretty good but not special any more.
But that's me just nit-picking, he's just won the first set in under half an hour and is playing very, very fast.

Not happening. Nole is playing the night session and I am going to the day sassion. My main concern is weather - forecast is not so great for tomorrow.

The result of these matches are not indication at all. Fed's real and the most ultimate test will be Nadal if they both reach upto there. A lots of times he has been playing impressive but totally falls apart when playing Nadal (e.g. RG 2007, 2008 )

This is not RG but this isn't even the Fed of 2007.

And this is what Fed had to say about it in his post-match interview:

"It's been a tough year, but it hasn't been a horrible year. I'm still ranked in the top 10. Okay, I have had better years, no doubt about it, but I can still play great tennis and sort of ten months ago I was world No. 1."

For those who are good at reading between the lines, there's plenty of hope Bubbly

I hope the weather holds up, but even if it doesn't it's still great fun to be in the midst of the fellow tennis-nation crowd!

PS
I've got a solution for Nole photos: just stay for the night session as well, a few triple espressos and you'll be fine on Monday morning Run
