Did not realise Stan lost sadly. I watched him train for 30 min and saw his amazing shots from close range but of course...Hewitt is solid player and on this slow grass his DHBH is his great weapon.

Wawrinka doesn't play well on grass, I think he has only one grass final which was last week and that too he lost to Mahut in st. sets. He hasn't ever moved deep into Wimbledon as yet.

Re: Wimbledon 2013: Day2
True but that's strange cause he has the game really...especially since grass is so similar to other courts nowadays. In fact the lower bounce should advantage him as a SHBH.

Court pace and bounce is one thing, but just that some players don't feel their feet properly on grass. The surface itself make it uncomfortable to move for them. Wawrinka is an example I think, whose game should suite grass tennis, but he finds it odd on his feet.

I know....some in my club hate it...but at least they have an excuse is that our grass courts are not nearly as good as SW19...despite having the same groundsmen!

Re: Wimbledon 2013: Day2
I thought Stan was OK on grass. Remember him losing to Murray in a very tight match a couple of years ago on CC, the very first time they had to use the roof.
It was more Hewitt playing well probably (didn't see the match so can't comment), he was very good at Queens and slower court probably suited him even better against Stan.
Having said that, Stan is not the lightest of movers.

Re: Wimbledon 2013: Day2
Correct Stan is not the best mover but good point too about his match v Murray.
What is strange is that Stan and Gasquet are very similar players but one certainly likes his grass more than the other.

Now that you mentioned it, it's so true!
Gasquet had a close loss to Murray in 5 sets as well there once, it was a great match, but they played a set almost in the dark, Gasquet was too polite to protest, but should't've played in those conditions.
Had he won that match, his career may have had a better turn, as he was playing really well then. His ego is not big enough for pro tennis

Re: Wimbledon 2013: Day2
I don't know how to add points, but win/loss score after day 1 is:
rotla: 5/7
Julia: 5/7
Tenez: 6/7
noleisthebest: 6/7
I think it's better if we keep on top of the score daily, otherwise it becomes a pain to calculate in the end
PS
A special message/invitation to BLUECLAY, the king of predictions (and others): join us as you said you would BC, it's a lot more fun now that Nadal is out

There are some nice matches on today:
HP Mathieu- Berankis
Dimitrov-Bolleli
Rochus-Andersn could be fun!
Harison-Chardy
&
Raonic-Berlocq, just to see if Rao can get going on grass at all this year!

Just had a look at the draw, Tsonga playing Gulbis tomorrow, should be a !
Bottom draw looking really interesting in the 2nd round. I wonder if Lu could grind Murray out, worth hoping

Querrey is really frustrated by Tomic's soft shots. Tomic is the new Murray. With better shots and easier power but hardly uses it.

Back home. Tomic needs a proper coach and that weirdo dad out of the picture. Not going to happen, is it?

Nole's forehand looked really impressive from close up at Boodles. He has such amazin control on it from the baseline, whether it's percentage play or going for the lines.

What a boring match on CC. It's ok to play baseline tennis, so long as it's elegant, and Mayer's is not, what an ugly FH (and serve)...

I haven't seen Murray play, but Fed and Nole look very good and fit/healthy, would be a dream final

Tomic for me isn't going to make it big. He is young still, but he isn't moving in the right direction as I see.

The dufus interviewer talking to Djokovic. All he asked was about Nadal's loss yesterday with question like " Was it the biggest upset in tennis ever?".. What crap...

It makes me sick when they start the talk about "I was hoping Nadal's knees would hold up longer... but poor him " etc etc... The tennis broadcasters r filled with idiots.

I couldn't agree more. No wonder the masses are so ignorant with people like Andrew Castle & co "educating" them

Although I really like HPM, I was so sad for Berankis! Another tight loss
