Re: Guess the top 5 in April and July 2013....
April 2013
Djokovic, Murray, Federer, Ferrer, Delpo
=================================
Well I got the first 4 in the right order. Not too difficult though.
Nadal has 6300 points....but has 5500 of those points on the clay season to defend from next week.
It was particularly impressive how he won IW but I still think that IW was designed by Larry for Nadal. So though Nadal will do better than I anticipated on clay, I still think he won't win as much. He is not playing Barca I believe so that means he will lose 500 points autmatically and will have to play 3 players ahead of him to win on clay.
Let's see what happens! but my Nadal out of the top 10 is not that far fetched. If he does half as well as last year, 2500 points that takes him to 3800 points, number 7...but a bit less and he is out.
I am however surprised to see you only need 3000 points to be in the top 10.

No, only about 4,600 are from 2012 clay season. Not quite sure how countables/non-countables will work out, but even assuming Vina Del Mar remains noncountable (which I think it may), he still already has 1,750 points from 2013. If he plays MC, Madrid, Rome, RG and Wimbledon, and makes QF everywhere, he will make 1,260 points, which will just about get him to top 10.
Obviously, odd things can happen. Just after he turned 24, Mats Wilander won the 1988 US Open. He was then the holder of three slams, and a freshly minted #1. But he would only win two small titles thereafter in his entire career. So anything is possible, but very unlikely for Rafa to be out of top 10 after Wimbledon.

rotla, you did not initially give any post-Wimbledon predictions. Are you ready to try now?
Hello SB, making predictions is always difficult for me though I run the the prediction game.
Not looking post wimbledon, but trying post RG.
Djokovic is likely to stay at #1 even post wimbledon. He has lots of points to defend on clay ( only second to Nadal) but he should be able to do it.
Murray is the current #2 and doesn't have too much to lose off the clay. I expect him to do almost nothing better than last year. So his stay at # 1 by end of clay will depend much on how Fed fares.
Fed is a mystery for me. I'm not sure how fit/healthy he is going to be, or of what form he can get into. He played a horrible Pre-RG 2011 on clay but looked brilliant at RG. He was looking good during the pre-RG 2012 but played a terrible match against Djokovic in RG semis ( Fed lost despite being ahead in all the 3 sets). He has a clay masters to defend this but his #3 looks secure till clay season.
Ferrer can retain his #4 spot even by end of clay. He has good points to defend from clay, but is likely to do so. Unless the chasing packs of Berdych/Delpo/Tsonga/ can beat him, he looks safe to be seeded #4 even at RG.
Nadal can only gain points at Madrid, but he is scheduled to miss Barcelona so that perhaps would balance things out a bit.
So in My opinion 1-5 are going to stay as they are after Clay season is over, unless Fed decides to change things.

Oh I see where I got it wrong I thought he had won Madrid too (you see I give him more credit than he is due!) . Still lots of points and as Karlovic says clay is fast compared to IW/Miami.

That was a sarcastic jibe, if you didn't realise.Tenez wrote:Still lots of points and as Karlovic says clay is fast compared to IW/Miami.
They are as fast as each other, which annoyed big serving Karlovic- which is why he wrote that comment.
I don't think he actually believes HC is significantly faster than clay.

No you do not realise. Even Federer said so!!! You still have to learn a lot Larry but stick around with an open mind and like Lydian you 'll get better.
