Can Djoko get to no. 1 this year?

What a turn of events since that loss to Ceccinato. The turnaround started with Queens and now Djoko very well within the sights of his 2nd slam of 2018. If Djokovic wins the  he will be 3 behind Nadal. 
 I haven't looked at the defending points for Nadal post US open  but if Djoko shows the same form to the year end, I am sure he will get to the deserved no. 1 position.

Nadal, Fed, Djoko are at WTF now with points, so WTF might decide.

Unlike SB I knew he had it in him to get back to his best but I expected his best to be bettered by younger players. Those guys have reached an amazing level of professionalism! I am not sure the younger guys will catch up soon. Zverev is the most "professional" unfortunately.

You mean...  rest through the part of the season he doesn't like... so he can have a shot at tour end?  

Pity he has to face top 8 opponents there and can't buy a great draw.

Answer to Tenez’s question is ‘yes’, but he probably needs to win the USO when he will be c800 point behind in the race, which he should make up. 1,800 would be a taller order and depend more on Nadal’s lack of fitness lasting.

If Djoko wins on Sunday, he should be able to do it quite easily.  If he loses, then he still has a decent chance, and a very good chance if Rafa performs poorly in fall.

Tenez is correct, I certainly did not expect Nole to get back.  I thought he was likely done winning slams and would just fade away.  Given how dangerous Rafa still looks (yesterday notwithstanding) and how Fed seems to be finally declining, on balance I am glad Nole is there to stop Rafa if needed.
