If an on court clock would help them time how long they take over breaks like Nadal says he uses at AO and RG that would probably be a good idea, but I do have the impression that these difficulties are experienced mostly by Nadal and nobody else.  I was wondering why he could not have resort to his much touted $775k RM 27-02 Tourbillon, but it seems that Richard Mille forgot to put in a second hand.

I do like the fact that Rafa in the space of two interviews has now complained about the introduction of a clock to help him with his timings on court and the lack of a clock  to help him with different timings on court. He just seems totally out of touch with reality when it comes to his own responsibility to comply with the rules.

The ATP Tour (or ITF) has allowed one of its most marketable stars to play the way he wants for the last 13 years during which, it is fair to say, he has been extremely popular and a key element of marketing of the sport.  Now they decide to clamp down on time wasting - I am of the school that thinks 'not before time' because regardless of how popular Nadal is personally, it's a bad direction for the sport in general and they can't allow him to be the most notable exception to the rule.  

But it isn't a very edifying spectacle.  Just like bad management/parenting, if you don't want something to happen, nip it in the bud or expect to face howls of protest when you eventually come round to doing the right thing.

Next stop the ITF/WTA/ATP desperately need to stop screeching by women and grunting by men.  I completely understand the need to exhale air on a shot - but that does not need to be accompanied by a noise of an intensity which varies as the tactical demands of the match changes or which is an interference with enjoyment of the spectacle by the people who are paying for the whole damn thing.
