Holy shit... Federer is 35 year old.
and 11 months.
Think about it. It seemed unthinkable at one point that he would get #18... and now he's won 2 slams at the age of 35. It's unprecedented in the modern era. It's not normal. First he wins AO by beating four top 10 players and winning three 5 set matches - and now he wins Wimbledon without dropping a set, equalling another 40 year old record that Borg set. This guy's talent and will to win and hunger is without parallel. It's frightening. So, Roger Federer is now - imho - the clear greatest sportsman in human history.

I didn't take the piss whatsoever. I stated that he was right to skip FO and clay - while you were having a hissy fit telling is all how he was favourite for it. Like a fool. And the result is he has won Wimbledon. I'm glad you ain't his coach. But, as usual, you have to make this a war
The only reason why he now has a chance of N1 is because he skipped clay, won Wimbledon - AND because Djok is injured - otherwise it would still be long odds. And it is still by no means certain. This is an an example of what Amrit calls you out on time and time again... taking credit for things you didn't actually predict at all. Selective memory. Oh, and straw manning people too!
Whether you like it or not, you've gotten this year totally wrong so far.

The late, great Sid Waddell declared years ago that the greatest sportsmen in history were Muhammad Ali, Jesse Owens, Roger Federer and Phil Taylor.
More conventionally. The Times today puts him with Ali and Pele and says he's now a giant of sport far beyond the confines of tennis. It's not because he's a supreme winner or because he plays with unprecedented artistry, but because he does both.

The only one of those that had the longevity was Taylor - and that is a non physical sport. So I definitely put Fed top. No offence to Ali, but what Fed has done in his sport far exceeds boxing.

I'm not entirely sure even Sid seriously counted Taylor. I agree on Ali, not even necessarily the best boxer, and Owens was important only politically.
The only sporting figure that I can think of off the top of my head to stack up to him is Bolt. I can't really contemplate team sport players.

Not even Bolt has had longevity if you look at his times... Better than most of course. But that's leg size more than anything... it would be like giving a best server award in tennis. Dr Ivo would win it hands down (again - nearly entirely his height doing it. I have more respect for Roddicks and Federers and Sampras' in the serve dept).
I can't think of a physical sport (esp a multi skilled one) where someone has dominated so much AND into their 30s.... Non physical it's Kasparov and Taylor imho. Physical I have to go Federer by a mile.
