Nadal Questionable For AO 2013
According to the latest update:
Rafael Nadal still has no timetable for his return from a knee injury.
The Spaniard hasn't played since losing in the second round of Wimbledon in June to little-known Lukas Rosol.
The 11-time Grand Slam champion is recovering from a partially torn patella tendon in his left knee.
In interviews with European newspapers Tuesday, Nadal says he's not
sure how soon he'll be back or whether he'll play in the Australian Open
in January.
He could miss the ATP World Tour Finals in London Nov. 5-12, and Spain's Davis Cup final against the Czech Republic Nov. 16-18.
Nadal says "this is a day-to-day thing. I can't predict what will happen."
Very strange, indeed.

Re: Nadal Questionable For AO 2013
thanks to, who else but marvelous Wooffie, we have further updates and a nice long interview he gave to L'Equipe:
I want to come back when I'll be
completely healthy, it's clear for me. I don't want to play anymore with
doubts on my physical condition.”
"Pain due to Hoffa’s syndrome started in Indian Wells, forced me to withdraw for the semi in Miami.”
“It was less painful on clay because of the surface. But from the semis in Roland Garros, my knee was very painful."
“I had to play the 2 last matches with drugs and injections. But I've never played as good on clay.”
“It was not a mistake to play in Halle, but maybe a mistake to try to play Wimbledon. My practicing sessions were awful.”
“I know that multiple injections in my knee are not good for my health, but it's tough not to try anything to play a GS.”
“I seem to be very calm with my health issues, but you have to know
that I had tough moments. Not being able to carry my country’s flag in
the Olympic Games was one of them. It made me sad for 2 weeks. Missing a
GS is tough, but less because it's not only every 4 years.”
“My wish is to play in Rio, but it's in 4 years ...”
"I was taught to resist, to play with pain. Everybody is different, but any high level athlete has to play with pain."
In 2010 & 2011, I didn't play often with pain. After RG, it was
even not a question to bear the pain, I was wondering on every shot if
my knee will resist. I couldn't go on like that."
"Tennis is first of all technical, then physical, and mental when you play to the limits."
"People have been telling me for years to change my game. I run
less, I don't run more than Federer or Djokovic when I face them. My
game is my game, I try shorter points, but I won't change my style. I'll
never "serve-volley", useless to wait for that, guys "
"I didn't have the same physical level in 2009 than in 2005. If you
don't work on new shots, you lose. I've been at the top for 8 years."
"Before my injury, I was No 1 on the Race, I was strong. Why
couldn't I come back as strong as before ? I'm not afraid of my body."
"I want to start the next season in perfect conditions : Doha, and then Australian Open."
"I can't decide to play less on hard courts, because there are 2 GS
on hard courts. I'll try to play more on clay, but I even don't think
that I have many options to do that. You know my opinion on hard courts.
"Football, basketball are not played on hard courts. Business won’t. It's cheaper to build a hard court, than a good clay one."
"My ranking has lowered, but I'm not worried about it. I still love tennis with the same intensity, the same passion."
"Tennis is not business for me. The priority is the court, the game.
Until RG, it was one of my best seasons, I loved how I played. I was
feeling good, I thought that I could win any tournament.”
“The team was strong vs USA, I don't know if I'll be ready to compete for the final. I don't look further than tomorrow."
"The captain makes the decision, it's the team above all. I'm not sure I’m the best player for the final in 2 months."
"I'm very happy for Andy and not surprised at all. I know for many
years that something great would happen to him. Good for UK too."
"I'm very ok on the new "no let rule". But every country has to apply the sane tension to all the nets."
"Ah ah. I was not aware of the new time violation rules, they didn't call me. Maybe they don't wish to (laughing)."

Interesting interview. I thought he was fine at the FO and then we learn he was suffering in the semi already.
I really don't like this new net call rule. All that because some abused the time rule!!!!!

Nadal's interviews about his injuries are so self contradictory, I just can't believe in anything he says. He keeps making songs about any injury when which wasn't even apparent (remember W 2010, AO 2012 knee explosion etc etc. ) and then after months he wants to say he played through the injury in FO when he didn't even look at all. He clearly said he was all fine after Miami withdrawl in MC and thats how it looked. He played 5 weeks and 2 days of tennis during the clay season and all this while suffering from an injury and none could notice?
Nadal is anything but injured. You have to be a dodo to believe such inconsistent stuff, especially when it has been the case since years.

Is this the clue to his silent ban? Was he caught then with illegal "drugs and injections"?
I doubt we will ever know.

Well he is sidelined for physical reasons, so I m not sure why he thinks, it's first technical. I guess he means that without bending his knees or move, he can't (technically) hit the ball properly.

That's the bit that really worries and saddens me at the same time. Not for Nole's sake, but for the sake of those who follow Nadal.
What a waste.

A waste of what exactly?? :chin:noleisthebest wrote:

You really don't grasp the concept of different people having different views and opinions do you.
Of course, when a Federer fan says something negative about Djokovic it's all about 'different opinions' etc. (as you specifically said to GP, I can bring out the quote). But that rule doesn't seem to apply to Nadal fans in your book.
Double standards I'm afraid.
I'm not sure if you think you're in some way superior to Nadal fans, or you can't see your own double standards.
Certainly as a Nadal fan I accept different people can support who they like, for their own reasons.

I get all your points (except this :chin: bit, what's all that about?)
Waste of time and effort. Same when people by CDs of rap music, wear their jeans halfway down their knees, get tattooed and pierced all over, watch junk films in cinemas and eat junk food.

Re: Nadal Questionable For AO 2013
So back to double standards once again.
What on earth has that list got to do with Nadal?
Why not add terrorism in the list, you might as well.
Making ridiculous and frankly irrelevant comparisons doesn't mask the fact you can't understand subjectivity.
Or maybe you can, and you are covering it up.
Interestingly a few days ago, this is what you said to GP:
Double Standards.

BB although a Fed fan and Nadal hater but just did not go on an on like a broken record albeit tenez and co.
Tenez and co would have found very difficult to argue with balanced and knowledgeable posters on MTL, thus never on MTL. This is the safest haven for them where they can go on and on with their senseless drivel and garbage.
Not following t20 much but will relish Indo-Pak final

Re: Nadal Questionable For AO 2013
Another insightful comment from Nadal's interview :
"I can’t pretend not to play on hard courts when two of the Slams are on
hard courts, but there is a mistake with our game. You don’t watch
footballers playing on a hard surface, or basketball players, those
sports with rapid movements.‘It’s
not going to change for me and my generation. Hard courts are very
negative for the body. I know the sport is a business and creating these
courts is easier than clay or grass, but I am 100 per cent sure it is
wrong. I may have to play more on clay than before but there aren’t that
many options.’
Andre Agassi once claimed Nadal’s vigorous playing style meant he was ‘writing
cheques that his body can’t cash’. He has proved the likes of Agassi
wrong before; many will hope he does so again."

Wow if you compared Federer fans to:

then Tenez would probably step in and condone you, funny he has not said anything to NITB for that.

Are my lows about the fact that I am as suspect about Murray as I was about Nadal? SO yuo are the one completely biased constantly accusing Nadal but unable to see it for your idol. This site is about being able to talk openly and maturely about what makes tennis such a physical sport nowadays. If you cannot stand the heat, move on ....and out.

Tenez, I can vouch that WOW is a huge Federer fan.
He supports Murray only after Federer. I've seen him post for a few years now, this is certain.
I think he only defended Murray a lot when he felt that double standards were being applied to him rather than Djokovic.

Re: Nadal Questionable For AO 2013
Amri,
the problem is that some get emotionally unable to disentangle themselves out of their perception, but take it personally, which is not a sign of maturity, quite the opposite.
That's all fine, but it does not help on forums. It makes it very difficult to have any sort of discussion if people get all overheated and irrational.
As Tenez said it well: if you can't stand the heat, move on!
I know you can despite having your Nadal-sensitive moments.
Everyone can get carried away, just no need to be personal and insulting to any poster here, esp the one who founded the forum and in my opinion is a really genuinely great host.
the problem is that some get emotionally unable to disentangle themselves out of their perception, but take it personally, which is not a sign of maturity, quite the opposite.

He is the one with double standards. He had a go at me today cause I noted Murray's metamorphosis since 05 while he has been constantly having a go at Nadal dubious diets for the last 3 years. That's hypocritical.

As opposed to anaerobic tennis
what is anaerobic tennis?
What is aerobic tennis as well btw?
Aerobic tennis is the one where you need to have high level of aerobic endurance in order to play it. You stand on that baseline and think: I'll be fine, I can last as long as I need to in order to win this match. I can run and run and run. Like a rabbit as Safin once famously said. Until your knees buckle underneath you.

NITB, the fact is that here you insulted me, not Nadal.noleisthebest wrote:Amri,

If you say something against Nadal it's ok, we can have a debate etc.
But your comparisons were directly implying Nadal fans, and as Tenex would say
it was 'low.'

Two wrongs don't make a right though.
