Ls, is that a real name? If yes, the kid must have had a hard time in high school.

Murray playing as he usually does... scrapping the barrel..
Its hard to imagine such a player is current #1.

Wow, Pouille destroyed by the 19 year old Bublik. Did the kid just play well or was there some issue with Pouille?

Agreed. Though I did not see the match....I can just picture it!...all about "not losing"...instead of trying to win.

On the other hand Rublev is through and very curious to see how he is going to fare versus Murray.

Stan lost the 1st set 4-6. Break down in 2nd...and just as I type, breaks back to level 4-4.
I knew it would be tricky 1st rnd.

Federer losing the second set from a break up. A bit careless...but his FH is a bit all over the place.

Re: Oz open prediction game - Day 1!
It was. I like Pouille but I think he's the highest seed who has gone out today. Interesting to know whether that was due to injury or whether the 19 year old he was playing is one to watch - I seem to recall he had a couple of decent results at the end of last year.legendkillar wrote:NITB wrote:Or did you just come here to gloat?Slippy wrote:Wow, Pouille destroyed by the 19 year old Bublik. Will be intriguing. Rublev stagnated last year but he's had a great start to the year and will be at a career high after Oz regardless. I can't recall him facing a top 10 player before but I may be forgetting a match?Tenez wrote:On the other hand Rublev is through and very curious to see how he is going to fare versus Murray.

Re: Oz open prediction game - Day 1!
I watched the 3rd and 4th set.
Federer in his organic mode, like a freshly ground coffee, releasing all the aroma kept in the bean. (having said all this, I stopped drinking coffee last year....just as I got myself a perfect coffee machine and found the bitterest espresso bean on the market..into cacao now, new drink for the new era.)
I loved every minute of it.
Every arrogant half-volley taken from a step inside the baseline.
Every serve that left that rich sound...2nd serve aces down the T.
Even the missed shots.
They were all struck with one mindset: fresh, hungry, unpolluted.
Tennis played on his uncompromising terms.
Who if not him?
When if not "now"?
He was burning to be on the court all these off-months.
He knew how much the crowd was burning, too.
Oh, it was just magical!
Thanks, RF!
This no-nonsense "headcase" salutes you.

Re: Oz open prediction game - Day 1!
Yes..his FH was very short earlier and then he started to relax (too early first) but in the 3rd and 4th....quite impressive....in particular his timing on the BH.

That's what I meant by playing on his terms.Tenez wrote:Yes..his FH was very short earlier and then he started to relax (too early first)
Obviously must have been striking the ball really well in practice to come out so confidently...and I am glad he did.
This match was there to shake the rust off, the set lost - collateral damage.
Melzer was the right opponent to be relaxed against from the start.
Fed had to hit the ground running with such a long break.
Hopefully, he'll build on this match: confidence...he'll need it as the muscles across the net will start growing and shining with percentage sweat with each round...

Yes, he worked very hard. He is relishing hitting the ball hard, almost like Stan.
Like I said, when if not now?

That was a nice surprise this morning (as well as to see my £5 become £17.50 )Tenez wrote:On the other hand Rublev is through and very curious to see how he is going to fare versus Murray.
No idea what to think or expect in the next round.
He's waited for this moment very long. I hope he plays his best tennis.

Wow well done...though very risky. I thought he had no chance v #60.
Since losing everything and more in that WTF final....I recovered some of my loss....but I am very careful in what I put my money on.

Well maybe not quite his best but in flashes pretty close. He should really have won that one in 3 if his focus had not failed.
The question is how can he recover from those 3 and 4 setters.

I made £57 on Nole vs Murray in Doha.Tenez wrote:NITB wrote:That was a nice surprise this morning (as well as to see my £5 become £17.50 )Tenez wrote:On the other hand Rublev is through and very curious to see how he is going to fare versus Murray.

Withdrew £10 so I don't squander all the profit....
Made some with Rubi...and the this morning lost most on Lucas....
Good old Dudi Sela rescued me so I now have £23 in the pot.....
I get into good mood and and fritter away so generously....on stupid matches instead of waiting for the right moment.
Discipline is everything!

Re: Oz open prediction game - Day 1!
I just read that Lajovic said he partly looks forward to playing a seeded player in r2, (Tsonga), as they'll have to be on one of the "bigger" courts, which are significantly slower than the side ones (that explains why Rublev won vs Lu).
Isn't that terrible!
Shouldn't it be the other way round?
Better players - faster courts!
