This all looks quite humiliating for the Russians.
Is anyone else being banned or just them?

Re: Zika virus and the Olympics
it all related to the recent doping scandal in russia, but it interesting that many sports are showing a zero tolerance to this doping scandal when the ITF were one of the first governing bodies to clear the russian tennis players
its also worth noting that the zika virus is now in the u.k with around 50 brits affected and has now also spread to florida

Re: Zika virus and the Olympics
so rafael nadal who claimed that nothing can keep him away from the games is now doubtful about competing at because he doesnt think that he is match fit
does anyone know if youre still able to be a flag bearer for your country if youre serving a possible silent ban?

Re: Zika virus and the Olympics
could be politically motivated or fear mongering but this is a classic case of conflicting and contradicting information being reported

Re: Zika virus and the Olympics
Of course there is a risk...but it was blown out of proportion to hurt Brazil.
Its a war out there. "A war without death apparently but a war to death" Mitterand before he died.

Re: Zika virus and the Olympics
i dont think that it was blown out of proportion because there is a real risk, the risk was just exploited or abused.all the media needed to do was just report the risk and the human nature of fear and exaggeration would do the damage..its a winning formula i.e saars and ebola
but brazil is facing so many of its own problems already, the country is in recession, the political problem, and correct m if i am wrong- i dont believe that any of the modern olympic games apart from the 1984 los angeles games has ever profited from hosting the games..there was really no need to try and to kick a horse while its down...

It was blown out of proportion cause funnily enough, we don;t hear about it now that the games are over.

Re: Zika virus and the Olympics
you cant really say that something is blown out of proportion if there is a real risk involved
its like having sex with someone who is hiv+ no matter how safe you are a risk is a risk from kissing to inter course
if the risk was virtually non existent then yes you can say that perhaps it was blown out of proportion
that link that i posted was actually reported after the olympics and was specifically talking about the risks of the virus in africa, naturally zika in brazil wont be a top story anymore once the olympics are over
dont get me wrong i understand your basic argument and your point is very valid, the media are hypocrites and there was definitely a hidden agenda by using the risk of the zika virus to achieve whatever motive

Re: Zika virus and the Olympics
So if you agree with me.....why don;t you see it has been blow out of proportion? The risk has. end of.
There is a risk.....but a risk no-one cared about before the olympics nor after! Zika virus is an old story affecting Africa, Latin America and now the US!!!!. But now who cares? No one.

Re: Zika virus and the Olympics
because the risk is real so it cant be blown out of proportion
the risk was exploited for whatever agenda, thats the difference
was the zika virus suddenly a huge story reported by the media? absolutely so maybe the story was made a bigger deal of then it should have been but that has nothing to do with the actual risk involved
the risk remains the same whether everyone is reporting it or no one is reporting it
the risk was exploited for whatever agenda, thats the difference

Re: Zika virus and the Olympics
ok,if hypothetically the all media around the world suddenly decided to report the risks involved with catching the hiv virus,no matter how much it is being reported doesnt automatically blow it out of proportion because the risks involved is real, whether the chances of catching the disease is 1% or 100% there is still a chance
a risk is a risk..
the chances/risk of catching the disease remains the same whether everyone is reporting it or no one is reporting it
if no one is reporting it,it doesnt mean that the risk is any less or just as if everyone is reporting it doesnt make the risk any greater
reporting the risk has nothing to do with the actual risk
however it is entirely plausible that reporting the risks involved could be exploited for whatever agenda
in the zika virus' case its the fear of what the virus is capable of thats exploited cause the media know that all they need to do is just report the potential risk involved and they are able to create mass hysteria

Re: Zika virus and the Olympics
It was an excuse. Certain players couldn't give a toss about a gold medal and didn't want to be there. It's a joke that tennis is an Olympic Sport anyway - or that professionals now compete - or that golf is there.
