Very unfortunate...saw that. I don;t think Kyrgios woudl have lost that game had he been fit. However Dimi may have lost that point at 15/40 on his serve cause he saw Kyr fall off. ..yet Kyr had another BP.summerblues wrote:Odd turn of events. Kyrgios gets hurt while breaking Dimi's serve for 4:5. He then plays a bad service game and gets broken right back while serving for the match. 6:5 to Dimi now.
Can Kyrgios recover?
Very strange and sad end to that match. But clearly Kyr has much more potential than Dimi....I was impressed by Kyr's BH...better than the memory I had of it in Melbourne.

Fed did not time the ball too well as often teh case in the first rounds..and probably due to Schwartz taking the ball early and flat...but he seemed fresh and moving well.

Just saw the scores...Stan and Gasquet out.
I didn't expect either to lose today...Stan was a little rusty, still enjoyed watching him play, going for the shots.
Opening draw for Fed nicely now.

Federer:
"'I'm moving well, which is key on this surface because the easy shots and easy points are not going to happen so easily here like they maybe do in Dubai or Australia or the indoor season. (read: IW is slower than blue clay) I was successful playing on my terms. There are certain things I can do better, but for a first round it's a good start.''
Nadal:
"I moved myself a little bit quicker tonight than what I was doing one month ago. I was able to defend some points well, to have some good passing shots, have some winners, some good shots down the line with my forehand. That always gives me a lot of confidence.''
As I said the other day, it's just a matter of time before Nadal gets his wheels aligned and going.
With the stress-free draws rolled out for him in every tournament, is there any doubt he'll be ready for RG..

Not many players do.Tenez wrote:Very true. Well pointed.noleisthebest wrote:I know what it is Dimi is missing: he simply doesn't go down line, esp not with his FH.
Just these endless, routine CC ones.
Short angles...that's the latest craze!
Could that be the line that separates wheat from the chaff?
Stan lost, but at least he lost in style.
He is so dangerous as he goes down the line all the time both on BH and FH.
I felt sorry for him last night, he couldn't put the ball away past Haase who was just playing safest possible percentage tennis.
I hope the Swiss can produce a few more good players soon.

He has a big game, weapons...just hope his body holds together as he seems to be injury prone.
I was annoyed with him losing to Raonic in Wimbledon after beating Nadal last summer.
He is only a year and a bit older than Coric, would be nice if they could develop a rivalry.

Sharapova is the dirtiest player among women by far.
There's no way I'd shake hands with her after the match.
Doesn't say much about Dimi even if he is with her for Nike's PR duties...they are joined by true love....for money!

What a weird set that was...
I knew Nole had foot problem before the match, but didn't expect it to cause him so much distraction.
Very average tennis from both, in fact, only saw one nice FHDTL from Nole.
Funny and cute to hear all the birds chirping at 5 am...

Well that confirms my view that Nadal's x factor is manufactured.
Kim & millions love him only because he is winning.
Which opens up a theme on why people love winners, as winning is such an unnatural state of man.
There is a woman in my club and on club nights all she does is ask people:"Did you win?"
So I asked her why she dies it and she said: "It's nice, makes me feel good".
Forget that she regularly cheats on line calls and moonballs all the time.
I agree, winning in life is nice, it's a happy drug, gives you that temporary feeling of not being dragged down, chained by laws of life, but that feeling just like drugs is artificial.
There is lot of truth in that line from Kipling's IF, which says ine meeds to treat both wins and losses as imposters.
"If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same."

Some good matches today:
Federer-Seppi, expecting a straight set cruise from Fed
Nadal-Young, playing in day conditions so hugely disfavouring Young
Berdych-Johnson, I can see an upset here
Dolgo-Raonic, last time the played Dolgo destroyed Raonic's serve taking it on from inside the baseline...can he do it again?
Robredo-Dimitrov, two fit SBH grinders, will be interesting

There is more to it otherwise Djoko or Fed woudl have the X factor...but they don't. Federer has a wow factor..but not X. The good news is that as many people prefer the wow factor than teh x one.noleisthebest wrote:Tenez wrote:he may have the X factor..but without the W(in) factor...not many will notice.

It takes humility, and that seems to be a rare commodity these days.

Nadal: A lot of stadiums are difficult to imagine a tournament away from Grand Slams improving that much, so just can say thanks to all the organization, everybody who makes possible that, to create an event like this. Especially to Larry Ellison. It's great to have him on our tour supporting our sport.
It's amazing all the things that's happening here. I think the crowd is one of the highest crowds on the world.
==================
everything is said here....I bet Carlos won't be referring Nadal!
