Just saw good old John Prescott in the Eurostar...going to Brussels to get his cheque I guess. He has changed quite a bit.

Wow...Prescott the two jags....I can't believe he's still around...I don't want to know what Mendelson is doing...
What a rotten lot they were.
How has Prescott changed?

I took a profile picture. He certainly looked diminished as one would at 77. Will post it when I'm back. But it's strange how politicians can still get paid by the EU long after they retire for having betrayed their country.

Federer topped Forbes list of most valuable brand for an athlete.
Bet the tour is praying he comes back.

i saw that earlier today and he is also the highest paid athlete in the world this year in terms of off court earnings and endorsements..over $60 million i believe..not ad for a season that he barely even played..legendkillar wrote:Federer topped Forbes list of most valuable brand for an athlete.

i think that his appeal, the respect and admiration people have for him and how much he is loved everywhere he goes leads me to think that its going to have to take some kind of miracle for any athlete to top him even years after he retired
most if not all athletes end up smelling like poo because of whatever scandal they get exposed for

Re: GOSsip thread
Federer certainly in my view has impeccable professionalism and certainly conducts himself so well with the talent he has and his achievements. His demeanour certainly matches well with his game. Cool and calm.
Tennis is style and grace and not sure any personifies that more than Federer.

Silly me!
Why did it take me so long to work out you are jealous of ""Djoko"....
You are obsessed with Monaco and money, aren't you?

Poor Federer. He did not know that a few years later he'll have to face a few rabbits with duracells able to bring all those winners back.

Re: GOSsip thread
Fed looked like a peasant with that pony tail, beard and necklace... raw un-PRed image gives some insights.
His FH was really good then.
Did he play with 85" at that stage, or was his smalest racquet head 90"?
I didn't watch the whole clip, in fact, I prefer his game much more now, esp on grass.
This all looks slow compared to some better matches in recent years.

I see that Ana Ivanovic announced her retirement via Facebook last night at the age of 29.
Certainly admired for the wrong reasons and almost was held in the same light as Kournikova.
Wish her all the best in her future.

Ooooh, I think that's a bit harsh on Ana.
After all, she won Rolan Garros and was a number one...and had a great attacking game. Unfortunately that game was fragile because of her nerves.
All Serbs were so proud of her when our national anthem was played in Paris that day.
Ana is a graceful creature, not a glamazon.
Just too emotional. I saw her twice at Wimbledon. Her serve/toss was the end of her.
Hopefully will find her feet in more relaxed scenes od life.
Tennis court has become a cruel place these days where nice people are devoured like fodder.
She could play tennis, though!

Re: GOSsip thread
People forget that Kournikova was a very stylish player. Of course, she realised that she didn't actually need to prioritise tennis and, coupled with a few injuries, that meant that she never came close to fulfilling her potential. However, I think she probably had the potential to have at least as good a career as Ana.
Ana was a top 5/10 level player who maximised her potential initially and was fortunate that she played well at a time when the ladies game was at a very low point. That said, her game could be fun to watch and her career was devastated by the yips on her serve. Given how pretty she is, she could have easily gone down the Kournikova route but instead has kept working hard to try and get back to the top. A good career and the right time to choose to retire.
I don't agree that tennis has become a cruel sport either. I'm sure there is some bitchiness in the women's game particularly but, in general, it's a sport played by the rules where examples of blatant cheating are few and far between. Of course, they all have a bit of an edge, but the big 4 in the men's game generally strike me as being fairly "nice" and it hasn't stopped them succeeding. Had Ana been a better player, the fact she is a nice girl wouldn't have stopped her from winning more.

I don't think it is. The point I am making is that people (certainly casual fans and players I know) always seemed to remember Ana for her beauty rather than her tennis. I agree that she is much more than that.
She had a career many on tour now would hope for.

Interesting. Intriguing that Fuller is gushing about him. Getting rid of Roehampton was a no brainer to be honest. Other than that, didn't do a lot else.

Re: GOSsip thread
I see.
I was worried they got rid of those lovely grass courts where qualies for Wimbledon are played on.
Still not sure what this "getting rid of Roehampton" mean, surely, they are not going to bulldoze the complex and build executive flats!!!!
I know Draper was not popular among coaches as he was cutting funding for juniors and trying to encourage adults to play tennis, but tbh, tennis in the UK is so elitist...I wonder who actually trained in that complex?
We have several national junior champions in our club and none of them have been there.
In fact, I don't even care about the state of tennis in the UK...all they do is import foreign talent anyway.
Murray brothers are a credit to their mother, nothing else.

Re: GOSsip thread
You never know. Kempton Park which held some of the most famous horse races is being demolished for housing!
No-one trained at the complex. Hence the biggest issue that faced that complex. I remember Murray posting a video when he went to train there and not a single other player was in sight.
I do actually care for the state of the development of tennis in this country. You have to go as far back as Henman for a top 10 player in these shores that was developed in this country.
The LTA will always face growing pressures to provide tennis to juniors at affordable prices. They also face a real skill shortage amongst coaches that convert those promising juniors to top tour level pros.
I agree that the bedrock for that conversion has been developed in other countries.
I remember the LTA trying to woo Dustin Brown to become a Brit and ended up with Bedene.
