I woudl like Djoko to win on this occasion for the obvious reason. Djoko would be the benchmark to measure how far Nadal is from the top.
To be honest T, regardless what happens tomorrow, i've seen enough. For me he's favorite to win RG and a couple of other clay tournaments. He's now playing a game he used to be not very confortable with (hence the UE's) but still he wins. So you can imagine what happens when he's on a roll on clay. This puts all the bullsh!t team Nadal has put on us for all those months in perspective. I reckon he has been training for at least 5 months, on his fitness and fine tuning this more aggressive game. And of course spending time on his knee-friendly jet ski. Lance is a sincere man compared with Nadal
...That really made me laugh! Nadal winning another RG much less.
I agree he played well today but I don;t think RG will be as slow as IW. I stick to Nadal not winning half of his clay TMS...especially if Murray and Djoko are on.

Fed has had much better stamina than Berd, but when Fed is broken he looks even worse than Berd. If Berd had legs of Fed, he would not choke in a way which Fed does with him.paulcz wrote:Tenez wrote:Why are we watching this? Berdych is terrible. He doesn;t want to win. He's been paid by Larry to let Rafa go.[/quote
If Berd was terrible, then I do not know what Fed was, I do not mean only their last session.
I woudl say essentially what I said above. Fed is very strong mentally and starts very well v Rafa until he tires. Berdych starts badly and chokes before he gets tired (especially today as there wasn't many long rallies). He started to play his game in that very last game when he had nothing to lose...except when he had everything to lose (in those BPs) as he coudl not return a serve in. He is not a skilled players....he has a big FH like ALL tall guys but besides that? Not sure.
I think Fed won something like 10 matches in a row until his got back problem (2008) and a few of those wins Berdych got were again from MPs down....when he had nothing to lose.
I know you like him and you are a fan. I am not trying to criticise him for free. I believe I am just saying what we coudl all observe.

I really don't think you are quite right here. We can't compare Fed's mental's strength with Berdych's and explain the difference in their record thanks to Fed's better stamina...even if he has (thanks to his more energy friendly game).
I did not want to see Berdych lose today but frankly he lived to his reputation.

the funniest part is, i wasn't even joking.
Berdych is a choker, but he's also a hyena. He senses if his opponant is carrying some sort of weakness. That's why he's Mr. tough guy against Federer these days. Today you could see there wasn't much blood to smell for berd. I think Rafa's presence on court must be quite strong again, which only will get stronger upcoming months.

I think the reason Berd does well v Federer these days is that Fed feeds him with a clean hit ball he can rest on. It's much easier to time than Nadal's loopy ones. I am not sure Berdych smells the blood that well. He simply sees a slower and lower ball coming at him (different than in Fed's form days) and simply likes it....yet he found himself 3 MPs down last time they played. He also has no complex v Federer cause he knows he has nothing to lose...whereas v Nadal you always have to make the game, take the risk and no free points and that is a pressure he doesn;t like.
He was disappointed today cause he made many UEs even when the ball was not particularly bouncy..and did not have enough pace on his FH to compensate.

Re: ATP 1000: Indian Wells
I do not dispute the fact that Fed is better player than Berd and his mental strength. I aimed to their comparison how they cope with Moribundus phantom. I remember so many squandered BP from Fed, that Berd is a pure beginner. I still say the same either Fed or Berd, to play with Moribundus a patient game from BL does not lead to a good result. The only exception is Nole.Tenez wrote:paulcz wrote:Fed has had much better stamina than Berd, but when Fed is broken he looks even worse than Berd. Berd is heavier by 10 kg against Fed, so he is surely limited in his endurance on the court. I am a fan of everybody who plays against Mori. Berd is not my favorite player, although he deserves more praise than he gets.

I know you were not and seeing Nadal today it also crossed my mind. I even wondered whether he was faking his slow mouvement in the earlyier clay tour.
I thought though that Nadal was playing from very back...despite this being a very slow court....I don;t think he will be able to attack like that on faster courts (and that includes clay). But having said all that I never doubted that he woudl get back to his level and get better (it's there on this site) but I am certainly surprised he came back that quickly and you certainly warned us.
It feeds that silent ban rumour.

Re: ATP 1000: Indian Wells
Berd's approach is utterly the same either he plays with Fed or Moribundus. It is an active game and force the opponend from his comfort zone. Berd can outplay Fed from both wings at BL and he does not manage with Moribundus, that is all secrecy here.Tenez wrote:gallery play wrote:Berdych is a choker, but he's also a hyena. it's criminal to give guys like Djoko a court like this. I really feel sorry for Delpo, he's hitting the crap out of the ball but it's useless

You all have to admit that those courts are ridiculously slow. The last set point just shows that there is no point attacking. Nadal could not dream of a better court.

I certainly don't remember them being that slow last year. It was a Isner Fed final so must have been ok.
I am certainly pretty convinced they were slowed down purposely.

As far as I can tell, Novak's not liking the heat and he is feeling it with his head. I can't explain some of his ridiculous shot selection in the last two games any other way.
He'll pull himself together soon and blast Delpo away i straight sets, that I am sure of.
Delpo, too suffering in heat and won't be able to maintain any attacking for too long.

Of course not. in tennis attacking means cutting the corners and do less running. But on a court like this it's like hitting a balloon against the wind

Yes, Delpo is good when he gets going. And well done to him for getting going and using Nole's stupid mental switch off.

It's the same very thin line. He can make them run to exhaustion and that increases their goalposts for Delpo.
